Capcom formally announced today that a live action big screen adaptation of the Devil May Cry series is being developed Screen Gems. The film, to be titled "Devil May Cry," is based off the series' latest entry, DmC: Devil May Cry.

Kyle Ward is writing the film adaptation. Ward previously worked on the screenplays for Hit Man 2 and Kane & Lynch.

I have to say I'm half-hearted about this. If its based on the DmC of Ninja Theory and not the original DMC games, then it'll be shite. It will never capture the things people loved about the series.

Given Capcom's record when it comes to making movies out of their games, this is just going to tank harder than the Titanic did (the ship, not the movie!)

It makes me sad because the series is already steamrolling towards disaster with Team Ninja's incestuous abomination and making a movie out of it will be the death sentence of a series that's been suffering from the handicap of being handled by Capcom's ineptitude since it was created.

I don't know what disturbs me more, the fact that they're using as a writer a guy who's only written games before or the fact that they're going with this version of 'Dante'--not the fun, theatrical and badass nut-job everyone knows and loves, but this scrawny, hobo-looking little shit who makes them all look like they're trying to ride the Twilight wagon.

I'm disappointed and sad. I'm going to go roll in a corner and cry myself to sleep and hope when I wake up this will all have been a bad dream.
