I have just beaten FFXIII-2. It's a great game with excellent gameplay and story. But I'm here to talk about the ending instead of giving a review. The review comes later when I am not lazy.
The following is not really a spoiler. I won't say specifically what happened in the ending. But it will indicate the quality of the ending and predictions on the future of the FFXIII series. So if you don't want to know the genre of the ending, avoid reading.

The ending is inconclusive. Something really tragic happened. The final screen writes 'to be continued' rather than the normal 'the end'. I have read the translations and understand what's happening. However, it's still an inconclusive story. I have to say it's definitely the worst ending in the FF series.
This only means 3 things. Either:
1.) FFXIII-3 is going to be real after all,
2.) There will be a huge DLC that gives a true ending that is conclusive OR
3.) The writers are really out of their minds and intentionally gave a stupid, inconclusive ending
and for sure, gamers all over the world is going to rage and bash the game. It's inevitable that some people will give a 1/10 just because of the ending, whereas their original score before watching the ending is probably 8/10 or 9/10.
While this is saddening, I think it's also SE team's own fault for deciding to include such an ending in the game.
I have to give credit to the first half of this ending though. It's beautiful and the ending song is fantastic. But the second half is what I am bothered with.
By the way, there is a secret ending when you do all sidequests. This ending makes things even more inconclusive.
The other multiple endings are actually more or less just 'what if' scenarios or joke endings. They are inconclusive too. I don't think they are meant to be taken seriously. There are 8 endings called paradox endings, and most of them can only be seen after beating the game. The requirements are usually beating a strong boss. There are also paradox endings which can be seen in the first playthrough and these are more like unique game overs since they are triggered by making obviously wrong choices.
I am not disappointed in the game. It's a great FF game IMO. I am merely very disappointed in the ending alone. And endings do not significantly determine the overall quality of a game. I am very looking forward to whatever plans SE have to deliver a true, conclusive ending to the XIII series.
