I voted for #1.

#2 contains too many rainbow-y colors and looks like a skittles or gay pride advertisement gone bad.

#1 has some subtle touches here and there & at least looks somewhat balanced. Pretty basic, though.

It looks as if neither really cared about their work.

I think you're wrong about #1 entry not caring about their work. I think you're just being rude 1 GMV.
