Wow this thread blew up in the past couple of days. I think I'm going to skip over most of it....
The game had three major redeeming factors for me: depth of strategy in combat, impact of strategy on combat, and the internal balance of combat. If those aren't significant priorities for you in...
Yeah, Geiseric is kind of ridiculous. I'm pretty sure I've seen Summons used against him in NCU play, so you may want to experiment with that. For my 100% speedrun it took me hours to figure out how to kill him with less than 1000 HP on my characters, and the strategy I came up with is easily...
You could definitely get an idea of where the upgrades were going by seeing how much stat gain you got on each level. I wouldn't take much observation to figure out that stat gains are linear per level for all weapons and accessories. I agree the upgrade system would have greatly benefited...
Good to hear you're still chipping away at this. Good luck on Geiseric!
I put my challenge on hold not long after my last post. I've still been playing a lot of FFXIII, but I'm working on a very different challenge at the moment. I believe it's possible to get 100% completion (that is, to...
It's interesting that you mention equipment here, and yet no one has mentioned the fact that you can, in fact, increase your strength well beyond the Crystarium cap by leveling up your equipment (and you have plenty of choices on how to go about doing that).
I also don't think that removing the...
Strategy is far more important than levels (CP) in FFXIII. Your paradigm deck is probably not set up as well as it could be, which will make you fight inefficiently even if you're making the best use possible of the paradigms you have. If you're still having trouble and would like feedback...
Oops, my bad. I completely forgot to come back to answer this. Target time, and therefore star ratings, varies based on enemy HP, enemy level, the number of ATB segments your characters have, and the higher of each character's Strength or Magic stat. I'm guessing you had higher Strength...
If you're looking for effective monsters at minimal investment, I highly recommend recruiting Cloudburst, Goblin Chieftain, and Yakshini. In addition to being generally good, the Feral Links of these monsters are extremely powerful. You'll also want a good COM monster, but I'm not all that...
I'd recommend a Librascope over Libra, as it's faster. I highly recommend using Hope over Sazh; he's a much better healer and you do need healing to get through the beginning of the fight.
General's Belts do nothing, and neither do Witch's Bracelets. I forget whether 10,000 Needles is...
The only thing that reduces damage from 10000 Needles is SEN damage reduction. Snow can achieve lot of damage reduction by using a Winged Saint (transformed Paladin) along with Mediguard or Steelguard. After Improved Guard II, his total damage reduction will be 80%--as in, 10000 Needles will...
I've played through the whole game about six or seven times, played through chapters 10-13 another four times, and done a lot of miscellaneous other stuff.
I will probably be beating the game several more times in the near future, as I'm working on a 100% speedrun.
Actually, the game is quite well balanced. It's balanced around the idea that, as you get deeper into the game, you will learn to take better advantage of the numerous combos in the battle system.
People who find it tedious are usually those who don't learn anything beyond the most basic...
No, not really. I enjoy the system in no small part because my battles don't get tedious. That's the thing with FFXIII's combat: skill + engagement = quick, exciting battles; basic strategies + spam X = repetitive, tedious, boring battles.
It's been done without even completing chapter 11, in fact. Fang/Snow/Light is a great team if your secondary roles are well developed, and it looks like yours are in good shape for this.
The chain multiplies damage whether or not the enemy is staggered, so 500% chain is 5x your base damage. And yeah, you'll probably need to constantly reinflict debuffs and regularly refresh buffs (just be careful when buffing or healing that you don't lose the chain). Towards the end of the...
Make sure you're using buffs and debuffs (Bravery/Bravera and Deprotect are extremely important, and the more buffs/debuffs you have the easier it will be to build chain), and be sure to alternate attacks as a RAV. Use the early stages of the fight to build chain with RAVs (the SAB attacks you...
Do you have the 'Encounters' Gate Seal? If not, that's what you're missing, and you should be able to find it in Yaschas Massif 01X AF near the eastern gate in the Pass of Paddra.
Hmm. Sounds to me like many of the posters in the thread were overlooking the power level of various strategic options. Yes, if you just stagger and kill one enemy at a time using only COMs and RAVs (and MEDs when healing is needed), then many fights are going to take quite a while, especially...
