[01/08] Square Enix USA’s Business Development Director Teases Two Projects

Dave Hoffman, Square Enix USA executive producer and director of business development, spearheaded Supreme Commander 2 and helped the publisher acquire the Dungeon Siege intellectual property. What’s he up to now?

According to his Twitter, "two new things. Well, one is ‘sort of’ new." Hoffman tweeted an additional clue, "Hints? I’m walking a fine line here. One of them is what you would expect and the other is not…" Announcements for both projects "should be coming soon."

Sort of new? Maybe Dungeon Siege III downloadable content? Other than pre-order bonuses we haven’t seen much of that yet. I suppose that’s something we’d would expect too.

Whatever the other project is it may not be related to Square Enix Japan. One of Hoffman’s roles is been complimenting what Square Enix is already doing in Japan. (Read more about that in this Siliconera interview.) Well… that’s unless he’s playing mind games with us because we would expect a Western announcement and something related to Japan would be unexpected!

Supreme Commander 2 and Dungeon Siege 3. To be honest, I'd hope he's hiding in a hole somewhere, waiting for angry fans to descend upon him and rip him to pieces, and then mount his head on a pike. He should even be allowed near a controller, let alone a new project.

It is? Dungeon Siege III more or less disappeared entirely off the radar once it was discovered Square Enix had a hand in it. Releasing DLC for it seems a little...well, pointless. Unless it's free. Which it won't be, because Square Enix don't know what "free" means.

Basically, it might be good, because it may not be related to Square Enix Japan, but it'll probably be shit, because it's complimenting them, and Square Enix Japan have already proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that they have absolutely no idea what it is they're doing with games these days. Fantastic.

Jim Sterling was right. Square Enix shouldn't be allowed to announce projects; they spend more time announcing them than they do actually releasing them. Shut up, get on with the damn video game, and stop annoying us with all these ridiculous hints that tell us absolutely bugger all.
