Let’s say you’re dead set on playing a Roegadyn when Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn releases. Let’s also say that you’re tired of your pop-culture or irreverent character-naming kick. For a change, you want to name your character something that fits within the world of Hydaelyn. With the advent of the new official Lore forum, the team has revealed the naming conventions for each of the five races. Voila! You’ve got a great Roegadyn name like: Ryssmann Barasatz

Each race has its own conventions, whether they be inspired by different real-world languages like the Hyuran and Elezen races, or based off in-game tribal customs like the Miqo’te. Each of the five races has two distinct clans (such as the Plainsfolk and Dunesfolk Lalafell) that inform how names are chosen.

The five races’ naming conventions, as well as a Roegadyn dictionary, can be found in the stickied threads on the official forum.

Have you settled on a race to play when A Realm Reborn launches? Thought of a name for your character yet?

Well, this is quite an interesting tidbit of information! So, a naming convention/system that is based off of the game itself. While that would be nice and in sync with the FFXIV world, I think I'd prefer to keep something more unique to myself - perhaps "Chanteru" for the first name and probably something Mi'qote-ish for the last name. I'd rather not look like a walking NPC with a generic Mi'qote name, y'know? lol.

Also, it seems rather elaborate (and perhaps a little too in-depth) for them to come up with this complicated naming system that I doubt everyone will use. I mean, they have naming conventions for each race, then for both males and females within each race, and then there are certain naming conventions based upon birth order (really now?!) And that's just for the Mi'qote race alone. I only briefly checked for the others, such as the Lalafel, Hyur, etc.

So, while I appreciate the effort and creativity, I think too much time might have been spent on this. ^^;
