Final Fantasy IV is being remade. Again. But the newly announced PSP version looks like it could be the ultimate version for those who want to experience the full FFIV story.

Japan's V Jump magazine has a first look at Final Fantasy IV Complete Collection. This compilation includes both Final Fantasy IV and WiiWare's Final Fantasy IV The After Years on one disc. Square Enix is also adding a new scenario that bridges the two games.

The classic SNES visuals are being redone for the PSP. From what we've seen, the whole game now looks like The After Year's WiiWare version, although we imagine the quality will be even nicer on the PSP's screen.

Japan will get The After Years in the Spring. There's no word yet on a release outside of Japan.

...a remake.. again. Isn't this the... fourth or something? So where's our V and VI remakes? Don't they come first? :rage:

Interesting, though I don't really know whether it's worth the purchase. Final Fantasy IV was remade on the DS not that long ago, and I don't think 'The After Years' is a particularly good incentive - after all, it was release on Wiiware which sort of shows the standard and expectation of how well they thought the game would sell. I think I'll give it a miss.

I think I'll wait till it goes on offer.

I couldn't get into The After Years. The new characters were pretty interesting, as was seeing how the original cast developed, but the plot was weak.

Another remake? This is the third one already!
As much as I love FFIV, I don't think i'll be getting this. The DS remake was good enough for me. I'd be way more excited if this was a remake of FFV or VI.

I think Final Fantasy IV is too good that they have to keep remaking it. Final Fantasy IV is one of my favorites in the FF series but I just want to see how this will go. If it is going to have more cgi scenes then cool. But I doubt it as they are taking the Final Fantasy IV the After years graphics from wiiware and just making them look better. Cool that it will be both games though :hmmm: That said, I am still not done the After years and I dont plan on buying every episode either.

Another remake, but it'll still be better than anything Square Enix has offered us recently (excluding NieR, of course) because they just don't know how to make good games anymore. xD

In any case, I may or may not buy this...I'd like to play The After Years, but I've already got FFIV on the DS and GBA, so buying it AGAIN for the PSP seems a bit pointless...I'd be better off going for the Wii version...maybe. I'll compare prices when it comes out.

There's a difference between a remake and a port. I'll just throw that out. :andry:

Oh ha, ha. The After Years came out as overpriced individual chapters and now it's coming out with FFIV for the PSP in a far cheaper package. So more value for your money this time. Not that I liked The After Years much at all, but I do feel rather ripped off that I even bothered downloading some of the chapters a couple of summers ago. :jtc:

As for another re-release of FFIV, considering there is the enhanced remake on the DS, I don't know who would really go for this release instead, other than people who want to play the sequel.

I might look into this one just because I don't want to have to fuss with the Wii version of After Years, but it depends on how much it is. It is encouraging to see them paying this much attention to IV since I didn't think it was a very popular FF in the scheme of things; let's hope if they remake or rerelease it again, though, that they do the wise thing and do it on PS3 or above, with the quality they used for the DS version's opening movie.

F**C! I bought a Wii recently especially to play The after years and now it's coming out on PSP...Since I already have FFIV on DS,GBA and PS, i don't think I'll buy this even if they add scenarios to link the two games. Square-Enix should focus on something else.

Yeah, I'm not bothering with it. I like IV as much as the next person, and Matrix software proved to be competent developers, but seriously with these sequels? They're redundant and forced. There's no real reason why they should exist.

I've never had the chance to play IV, so I think I'll probably get this when it gets released. It'll be another one of those early games I've never played before.

Oh my goodness...are they serious? ANOTHER remake? What about FFV and FFVI! Where is their love!?

I would sell my xbox, my PS2s and my other games if this had been for FF6 or FF5. They really need to be kicked between the legs, I mean seriously, really hard!

A Closer Look At Final Fantasy IV: Complete Collection

By Spencer . December 17, 2010 . 6:36pm
Yes, there is another remake of Final Fantasy IV, but this is different from the Nintendo DS remake Square Enix released just two years ago. Final Fantasy IV Complete Collection packs Final Fantasy IV and Final Fantasy IV: The After Years, a direct sequel starring Cecil’s son Ceodore, on to one UMD with high resolution graphics.

Here’s how the PSP version stacks up against the original game.

Thundaga (left: original, right: The After Years on PSP)

Final Fantasy IV: Complete Collection also has a brand new scenario that connects the two games and a gallery mode. Square Enix has Final Fantasy IV: Complete Collection slated for a spring release in Japan.

Oh my goodness! It looks really, really nice! :33 Still would have wanted a 5 or 6...

I'm totally gonna get this game! This and Dissidia!

And weird...I could swear the engine that created those graphics was an Enterbrain engine... :/

Lol. Another FF4 remake when FF4 has enough remakes already isn't that much impressing. Though I'm keen to get it, just for the FF4-2 part.

Umm, if i remember right FF4 only had one remake and that was FF4 DS. The others were just the original game with a few extras put in them. As long this isn't too much i'll get it. I could get back into a old final fantasy again, 4 is one of my favorites.

No, they were all remakes.

They enhanced the graphics for the GBA with new graphics, then the PS1 had slightly better graphics, then the DS and then all the spin-off games :)

These are all the systems this game has been on:

No, they were all remakes.

Actually no, only the release for the DS was a remake because it involved a complete overhaul of visuals and a few other factors from the original version. What we've been seeing in re-releases on the PS1, GBA and PSP etc. are just ports, though with updated (though still 2D with sprites) graphics. Hence that was why I pointed out that there's a difference between a remake and a port. ^^

And yes, they are milking it to the bone now. I predict a re-release of FFI and FFII for the 3DS. Anyone want to bet how likely that will be, considering they seem to be more interested in milking old titles than put everything on the quality of their new games lately?

Final Fantasy IV: Complete Collection Has A New CG Trailer

Want to know what Cecil and Rosa’s son is supposed to look like when he isn’t shrunk down to a sprite? This new promo video for Final Fantasy IV: Complete Collection, created in the same style as the CG cutscenes for the Nintendo DS Final Fantasy IV remake, gives you a pretty good look.

Final Fantasy IV: Complete Collection is currently slated for a Spring 2011 release on the PSP. You can check the official website out here.

You can view more videos at the official site. Here’s a few screenshots to give you a clearer look at the game:

I've never had occasion to play FF4, but everyone says it's one of the best games of the series. I was thinking about playing the DS version, just because the characters look better than the GBA version and they have voices. I just can't understand where those CG scenes come from. I don't think they're from the DS version, are they? I've never seen a scene of Rosa and Cecil with the baby, or the one with Rosa and Kain. So... are they adding CG scenes during the game?? this could be a good reason to buy it =) I hope it'll come out in Europe, and it'll be translated also in German, Spanish, French and Italian, not only English.
