Square Enix has finally commented on a release time frame for Final Fantasy XIV's PlayStation 3 version. PS3 owners are going to have to wait a bit to play, as a closed beta test for the console version will not be held until October or November 2012. The actual retail version of the game isn't expected until January 2013 or beyond.

The PS3 version was mentioned as part of a general schedule that will lead to a reboot for FFXIV as "Version 2.0." For PC players, the game will cease to be free some time in late November and early December, but will return to a limited time free period late next year alongside the PS3 version.

For further details (in Japanese), along with concept art and design docs for the reboot version, see the Lodestone site.

Honestly, if they just hadn't released such a shoddy product to begin with, this delay between the PC and PS3 versions and the embarrassment wouldn't have needed to happen. Kudos to you lot for persisting with the PS3 version. I'd have cancelled the whole thing entirely, put it down as some money-pursuing adventure that went (deservedly) wrong and shot the team executives who allowed it to go out through the doors in the state it was in. :mokken:

I'd rather not see this on the PS3 anymore to be honest, unless they plan on keeping it free. At this point in time this game is costing them way more money than it is worth, Idk why they are still trying to save it. I would just go to FFXV now and save what you can.

The actual retail version of the game isn't expected until infinity or beyond.
Fixed.

Shockingly enough, I don't think I'll be losing much sleep over this one. With the notable exception of FFXIII, FFXIV is easily Square Enix's most phenomenal achievement to date, because I honestly didn't think it was possible to make a game so unbelievably shit AND get away with it.

Hopefully this ridiculously long ETA means that they're going to wind up shelving it entirely eventually and moving onto something worthwhile...either that, or that we'll finally have a release date for Versus XIII once they finish this game in 2013

You are truly diabolical. :hmph:

Anyways, people still want this after two years, really 8(

I'm surprised they are still wasting any sort of effort on this game because of all of the other bigger projects that they have going on. Like Versus...and XIII-3 :damon:

Evidently they still feel there is a demand for this or something which...is sad because after two years of nonsense with the pc version and trying to bring this to the ps3 I think people have well passed moved on with any sort of anticipation for XIV :(

Late 2012? I really do not think that anyone will play the PS3 version if they have to wait that long. They should have scrapped it all together. The PC version and the ps3 version are really far apart in terms of release. January 2013? Why not just forget about it. It clearly shows XIV failed on PC. I honestly think they can not make it any better. They can fix the glitches and things, but more titles by then will be so much more appealing to everyone. FF XIV is an MMO... and I really was never interested. Maybe I was going to take a look into the ps3 version, but holy hell they should just scrap it now. Obviously if people will have to pay to play XIV on psn. Canceling it would have made life so much easier.

I honestly think they can not make it any better.

...this is a spectacularly bold statement and a very big misconception that can easily be shot down (ignore me if I've just misunderstood you). The original release was reportedly a whole pile of crap that was sloppily done, lazily thrown together at some parts and generally just prematurely released. With some new faces brought in to clean up the mess, and with the nature of MMOs meaning that updates, patches and new content can be filtered in revised, how can they "not make it any better"? From what I've skimmed over, 2.0 is said to be a significant improvement in all sorts of ways, though whether it's a bit too late now is possible.

They can fix the glitches and things, but more titles by then will be so much more appealing to everyone.
I'll give you that, as it's very true. No matter how much work they try and do to rectify everything and to restore public confidence and enthusiasm for the product, the saturated MMO market so far means that once you make a terrible first impression, the ship will begin to sink and the passengers will jump ship. That's perhaps the worst thing that can happen to you especially as SWTOR and Guild Wars 2 do look far more impressive for instance.

I guess this is a damned if you do, damned if you don't kind of situation. Can the whole thing entirely and you have your reputation torn apart even more, rendering all the previous work essentially to waste; or try and fix it, but realise that you're facing an uphill and costly battle with a game that had bombed so hard with its debut. Okay, maybe my previous post about how I would have automatically abandoned it seems hasty and a knee-jerk kind of response, and I suppose I can admire this team for sticking with this failed product and trying to save it - a daunting feat that few others would probably want to do, so for sticking to their guns, I give them some credit. But to repeat myself, all of this could have been avoided if the released product wasn't so shoddy to begin with.

No, Square Enix has invested waaaay too much money into XIV to quit now. They did right by axing the whole team and replacing them then starting over. XIV won't see near the success it was supposed to see, but they want money very, very badly and they will fix the game however it takes in order to start making a profit.

1 guy paying to play is more profitable than 100 guys not paying to play.

No no no... I was just saying that it will not get much different. If you say the patches will help and all, good. There obviously is just going to be much smoother work done. Even so, I do not think it will be much better. Yes, it was crap. Why would they release it then? If I recall there was even a beta. That obviously did not go very well, yet they released the final PC product shortly afterwards. I would not even call it final. PC is usually better for MMO's, so I really do not think the Ps3 version will have much in comparison. More so, why 2013? Versus and XIV in the same year maybe? Do you know how much people are going to really not care about the "refined XIV" Oh yes, and while they are trying so hard to get this in order, It certainly will not help in the long run. I wonder about something. Is XIV even needed? People still play XI, and I bet the servers are much more dedicated. With all the expansions.. and XIV being so shite.

The thing is, they will try so hard with XIV, but nobody will remotely care about it. The product is dead. It will not rise up upon release date. Versus without a doubt is the main attraction once 2013 arrives, and not some faulty mmo.

Oh... and that is IF Versus gets released :britt:

How about just No FFXIV.

Same boat for me cause the game itself is just completely boring. My nephew said the same thing too!! I'm really fed up on monthly fee games and to me I have retired playing PC online games cause it's just a waste of time for me to play them just like FFXI. :gonk:

wtf... 2013.... that long they might as well ditch it in the bin cuz it sooo bad :hmph:

what i find funny is that FFX is still 22 pounds new in game... while FFXIV is in the two for £20 in game.... with games like theme hospital and train simulator

seems like the game's being completely overhauled. If they can incorporate new elements and release it before the graphical standard overtakes it to the point of irrelevance (since that's a large part of its appeal, despite the importance of gameplay and a good UI), then it stands a chance of survival.

I saw some of the "promises" they brought about and all I have to say is this:

I wouldn't mind trying it out. They should have started with these changes as the initial design. If this

is every bit of exciting as it looks, then when it comes out I'll dick around with it. Who knows, maybe I'll even like it (MY GOD, IS THIS WHAT THEY CALL OPTIMISM?). More like pseudo-optimism. Anyhow, going through the details of these changes (and I use the term 'details' most generously) they're bringing back the familiar and the basic. Jobs we can recognize, similar navigation, trade, interface and combat modes to other successful MMOs. Nothing to jump up and down to, but it's definitely a step up.

-sigh- I miss my childhood.

EDIT: No I don't.

Well I allready lost my excitement for the game anyway, however when it does come out ill still get it, the only thing is Im not really caring or anticipating it. whenever they decide to make it though I do hope its worth the wait.

Its sad a ff mmo has always been my dream (never bothered with ffXI) cause I loved mmo's when I was younger..but monthly fees are killing me and my enthusiasm. I was really looking forward to the ps3 version.......too long to wait for..mmo's will kill my socialising...well who knows maybe I'll try it out.

That long of a wait? Oh this'll make PS3 players want to play, what with all the lovely things we've heard about it. The talk of this pretty much died down a few days after release, just leave it to PC and fix that version. It's where it belongs.

I can't see it doing any more successfully on PS3 than PC, where from what I've heard, it's not as successful or popular as XI was to date. I think PS3 players are more concerned about the release of XIII Versus, which was announced goddamn years ago.

Besides, if you want an MMORPG for PS3 then play White Knight Chronicles.
