A new website has gone live pertaining to the forthcoming announcement on the future of the Final Fantasy XIII series, featuring a looming thunderhead with the caption: “A Storm Gathers“. We’re expecting an announcement not only at the Final Fantasy 25th Anniversary Event in Japan, but a message from the staff will be broadcast abroad at this year’s PAX Prime in Seattle.

You can visit the website by clicking here.

Please be reminded to stay on-topic and keep a friendly argument if you have to. I do not want to see a repeat of the previous thread.

A storm is gathering... sounds like something to do with Lightning :hmmm: question is, is this going be the first FF game to get a 2nd video game sequel???? (anyone that says VII, it had a prequel and a sequel...i guess two prequels if you wanna count that phone game only in japan...)

Ok, so we'll find out on 1st September. A new direction for Lightning? C'mon, let that be an entirely different story, have an entirely different battle system, entirely different characters and an entirely different world to play around in...

I have a strong feeling that it's just going to be a game based around Lightning because she's "sooo KooL "

Meanwhile I just feel like this.

Well this definitely means we will be getting the destined FFXIII-3....that....or dear god a Movie?!?!?! haha well it could be a possibility :P In all honesty I like Lightning and as they showed FFXIII made 9.6 million sales which is really good for today's standard. I wouldn't mind one last adventure, change the battle system or even add a new mechanic...make it like FFXII's allowing you to walk and then pause to select commands.

A new world would seem likely, and it means it will be normal FF style due to the fact that the gates have disappeared so no jumping worlds. Well this is all speculation, we'll have to wait and see :D.

This should have been FXIII-2 and the previous should have never existed. If Versus releases BEFORE this game I'll be happy. If this game releases before Versus I'll be freeking upset.

Please make this a cgi movie or anime or stupid novel.

Well, XIII-2 didn't exactly end on the highest of notes, and that ever-so-mocking To Be Continued... screen continues to haunt me. It's was a very worthwhile game to play and, if anything, I'd like to see more of it. Continue developing the battle system as they did in the transition from XIII to XIII-2, and I'd be more than happy to see what becomes of it next. Maybe add a little more freedom to the combat? Allow free movement, perhaps? Well, I know that much isn't likely, but new commands, developments in the Crystarium; actually, that gives me an idea.

The l'Cie had their respective Crystariums, mainly BECAUSE they were l'Cie. As XIII-2 showed, however, many people are capable of magic. Soon after the population of Cocoon moved to Gran Pulse, many people started to show magic skills; if living on Gran Pulse helped them to draw the magic from within them for their use, then the l'Cie brand, and thus, being a l'Cie, might just bring out massive amounts of magic that they would've had had they not lived on Cocoon their whole lives. If that's the case, then what sort of magic and grand scale of combat can we imagine should people continue to draw more and more magic power and become stronger in their naturally-developed Crystariums?

Well I'm feeling rather contrary at the moment, so I'm just going to step right up and say "YAY!" :yay:

While I could have been ok with XIII-2's ending, I really didn't want it to end there. Although I liked Serah a lot more than I thought I would, Lightning still seemed to be the more interesting character of the two all the way through the game. I don't mind seeing more Lightning at all, but at the same time I do really hope they mean the "new" in "new direction". The XIII battle system is great and all, but SE has demonstrated that they know how to make more than one good battle system, so I'd much like to see what else they can come up with.

I'd say don't plan on Versus XIII coming out before XIII-3, though. They'll probably release that one a year later or something.

lol Wada stated after type-0 is done they will focus on Versus mainly. Now this announcement... In my eyes he made a promise so he better stick to it and deliver.

This new generation FF fans kinda destroyed Final Fantasy for me if it keeps going like this.

This has to be another addition to the XIII series, so no matter what... all of us will be like this on September 1st:

I rather prefer the idea of a cgi movie than another FFXIII game. But that's unlikely.

It's obviously FFXIII-3. I don't know why they bother keeping it a secret any longer. We all know what the announcement is.

Well!

I'm not surprised. Not by a long shot, but as I really did like XIII and XIII-2 i'm not complaining! Just hopefully SE doesn't screw it up so bad I hate it.

Because this is one of SE lasts chances. This HAS to be good. or they have screwed themselves over for a while because EVERYONE will say "screw it"

Get it right SE.

I hope is a spinoff instead of a "RPG" like a game featuring Lightning where she must date guys to find someone that can tolerate her COMPLETE lack of personality or an action game ala DMC (Like it or not Lightning could fit easily in an action game).

Out of all the things I usually agree with you on, how can you ruin that streak haha even though I know your taking the mick with the 'Dating Lightning' concept...and DMC i'd hate to agree with it but I don't want to see it :P

Absolutely spiffing. As I anticipate for the day, I can positively attest that I am salivating with delicious excitement at the prospect of a third game to the FFXIII series. I sincerely hope that they don't end it with only a third game. I humbly request that they continue with the FFXIII saga and explore every nook and cranny available so we can fully savour the vast richness of the lore and flavour of this majestic in-game universe. It confounds me also that there are detractors bold and nefarious enough to dissent and proclaim that these are among some of the worst outputs from the company and that Square-Enix ought to - in layman's terms - "move on". If they cannot recognise the artistic triumph and beauty of the FFXIII saga, then I honestly lament for the exuding ignorance.

There is barely a single factor about the games that register to me as flaws. Every component and segment of the games are so masterfully crafted and passionately composed that they piece together like the most intricate of puzzles. Every character exudes soul and originality, from the writing to the designs. The triumvirate of Lightning, Snow and Vanille in particular eclipses the halfhearted efforts of previous one-dimensional efforts that even the strongest of detractors cannot possibly ignore. Objectively, FFXIII has ushered in a new standard of RPG storytelling and characterisation that has defined this generation. Like an envious telecommunications competitor to Apple, opposing developers, inspired by Square-Enix's leadership and initiative, have attempted to follow in its wake, and have merely emerged with distinctively inferior products, built on cheap mimicry.

My one concern lies in the report that this will be a "new direction". This arouses apprehension in me because I want a PS3/360 game of the same polished calibre as the previous two entries, and the prospect of something remotely different is worrying. I demand for the preservation of that same fluid battle system I have grown to adore. Anything else and I dread the crawl that blighted me with entries such as FFIX and the diabolical excuse for a game that was FFXII. But above everything else, I am overcome with ecstasy at the news that Lightning will finally be offered the focus and attention that had been criminally compromised in FFXIII-2. Toriyama rightly claims that Lightning is the paragon of all Final Fantasy characters because he is a man of unbiased wisdom. I hold unconditional trust and faith in this blessed artisan of video games and I urge his detractors to discard their unreasonable vitriol and to accept his astonishing talents.

It irks me when I see the constant pleads for Square-Enix to abandon the FFXIII series and settle on the continued progress of Versus, FFXV and the possibility of an English release of Type-0. Type-0 and Versus are nothing but generic manifestations, headed by overrated directors. Smell the coffee. FFXIII is the true definitive new direction for the entire JRPG genre and for the series. Versus and Type-0 are merely outdated ideas, hastily announced back in 2006 when in reality they are merely antiquated ideas - with Versus an egregious instance of such, but misleadingly dressed as a next-generation title. It is not, and no one should be fooled. If Versus and Type-0 remain cloaked in shadows never to see the light, it will be for the betterment of us all. If FFXV abandons the fresh new direction of FFXIII and fails to build on its foundations, then it will be a misstep that Square-Enix should hopefully later suffer for. But fortunately, I have faith in Square's ability to maintain its creative wisdom and to continue the nigh-monolithic dominance of Motomu Toriyama's input.

Thank you
, Toriyama. Thank you.

Why is everyone doubting if this is tied to XIII? It says it in the site's title. :wacky: Anyway, the name just reminds me of Game of Thrones, I'm not gonna lie :lew: It's a cool name and all, and I hope that it's contents are just as cool... but I'm not gonna make my expectations high just yet. Even if it's a XIII title, I'll still need to see more details before I knock it or like it.

Im just wondering exactly what the new direction is. They also said for the Requiem of a Goddess DLC that the battle system would be completely different, and really it wasnt. It was slightly faster, with renamed roles that were essentially the same as what we saw. So are they going to make it an action RPG or something?

I obviously hate this ff13 with a passion. However if it is indeed a spin off i would hope at least a story related to someone other than ff13 cast. And an action Rpg.

I have no idea whether Fleur's post is serious or sacastic -__-

Anyways I just want Final Fantasy XV now. I don't like Final Fantasy XIII or it's games and I'm not looking forward to the newest title nor am I going to buy it. However Final Fantasy XIII is just old news to me now. I don't like it, okay so what's next ?

If you think I don't want another FF XIII title because of Versus you'll be wrong because Versus doesn't really look thrilling or awesome to me. Kingdom Hearts 3 and a english translation of Type 0 ? Then yeah, yes please. Scoop them up on a plate.

I'm hoping that there will be annoucement of Final Fantasy XV tucked under all this Final Fantasy XIII news or something that will be a saucy bone given to those who actually don't enjoy or desire the FF 13 games. :martel:

There is very little to go by on that page, but what's there makes me feel excited and hopeful! I anticipate a darker game with Lightning at the centre.

I have really enjoyed the story of XIII so far (I admit the battle system needs some work), but currently, it feels incomplete. The 'saga' does need another title. I truly hope this is another 50 hour long game. I don't want a spin-off movie, anime series or novel.

I want them to create a game that brings together everything we've seen so far. General consensus is that the plots of XIII and XIII-2 are inconsistent. They don't fit together and their individual plots barely make sense. I personally disagree, but certain details are a little sketchy. I want them to develop what they have, exploring the mythology, world and characters in more detail. Therein lies a lot of potential!

If this isn't the final game... well, I may feel a little frustrated. It depends on what they have planned, but I've never been a fan of unnecessarily long plots. I don't want FFXIII to drag out. I think they need to wrap up loose ends, fill in the plot holes and explain the mythology in more depth. Talented writers can do this in one game.

Either way, I can't wait to find out. :wacky:

Edit: Oh... This better not be a 3DS game or PSVita game. :hmph: If it is...I will be annoyed, since I hate having to play complex games on handheld consoles. I have a 3DS, but forcing fans to buy more than one system in order to see the full story is ridiculous and a little bit excessive. This had better be another 360/PS3 game.

I will be even more annoyed if it's a PS4 game... I have already decided not to buy the next gen of consoles. I'm going to miss out on a number of games...but I own three generations already!! Four seems incredibly wasteful. :sad3:

Don't let me down Square! :gasp:
