I didn't see a topic about this so here it goes!

Cloud isn’t the only Final Fantasy VII character you’ll get to dress Lightning up as, in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. You’ll also be able to outfit her in Aerith’s clothes. Take a look at the costume in the video below. While the Cloud outfit is a pre-order bonus in the U.S., the Aerith costume—which has only been announced for Japan at the moment—can be acquired as a bonus that comes with the V Jump magazine strategy guide for the game. Final Fantasy Network spotted the costume during a stream.
Square Enix have not detailed how the Aerith costume will be made available in North America and Europe. - source & source

Lightning looks so classy. :ohoho:

Another reminder that FF7 still exists, is relevant and is not being remade :mokken: Cool I guess though, not that i'll be playing it. Not sure even if I like'd XIII it would make me buy a strategy guide. Isn't that what the internet is for? Pre-ordering is always dangerous too; as I found out to my despair with the original XIII.

Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh this really sucks because I'm really starting to like the Lightning character, (Sorry Kira, I keep forget to update you. I'll do it now. :) ) and now it looks like she's been turned into this dress up doll. I know many people will like this, but I just.... No. I don't like it at all. They've ruined Lighting by turning her into a virtual Barbie doll. :hmph: #FuckThisCompany #BryanDanielsonIsGonnaKickYourFuckingHeadIn :hmmm: Meh.

I'm beginning to think people are just against a female character getting more than one outfit. People don't do this about games where you can download DLC for guys and have them wear so and so's clothes. :hmmm:

I think it's a cool side-fun-type of thing. People are just... well, over-thinking it all. It's just for fun.

Nahh, The more content the better; it's just the fact that they are using peoples love and want for a popular title (FF7) to sell strategy guides. I bet they sell it as DLC too like a day after launch. What this makes me think of is someone at Square said FF7 wont be remade until, and obviously this is a loose quote :P, a FF is made that is better than FF7 or something to that extent; basically saying that they won't remake 7 until something that was it's equal in terms of financial success is made, kinda twisting the loyal fanbases' arms who are wanting a 7 remake; especially with 7 related content.

In terms of how it looks; Aeris as a blonde looks kinda weird. Although I suppose it isn't really her. I think the Cloud costume suits Lightning alot better.

I don't know how to feel seeing my least favorite Female character dressing up as my most favorite female character. It feels so odd.

About the " Barbie Doll " thing I have to disagree because they are just different costumes. If this is " Barbie Doll " The game, then Dragon Quest IX is ten times worse than that since you can buy clothes and dress up your characters in different clothing male and female party characters. Plus some of the clothes look nice.

Eh, not to going to buy it anyways.

Firstly in regards to the Aerith costume, I think it looks a little strange on Lightning. The basket of flowers on her arm serving as a shield like thing, looks a little ludicrous and to me puts me in mind of a tacky Tekken 5 customisation. :brow:
If it weren't for that particularly obvious prompt for a giggle fest the costume might look nice enough, although I still don't know about that ribbon. 8(

Secondly, the "Barbie Doll" comment (as it has now been dubbed) has some merit to it, but in this I would agree with @Lady Liberty. I would say that the costumes were ment for fun and was an attempt to amalgamate their diverse design concepts into one game. However, like many have said before, this is also a ploy to create more fan service without really delivering anything of substance. Yes the costumes are all very sleek and cool, but they are completely incongruous to Lightning's personality and character. One can not help but notice the almost derailment of the game series, which, like Final Fantasy XIII or hate it, is not a good move to see Square Enix take. Could this open the door for future titles and storylines being sacrificed in the name of fan service and hype?

Personally, I think that it is a nice idea to add in some customisations to a Final Fantasy game, where the equipment makes a difference to both the moveset and character appearance. Maybe now is the time to have your playable character actually look like they are wearing the Mithril Mail you treated them to after selling off their old Leather armour. However, in the case of Lightning Returns would it not have been better to design new outfits that both stay true to Lightning's core characterisation and give us, the players and fans, something new and interesting?

We all know what Aerith's costume looks like. We've already had to play through games in which the main characters wear the same clothes throughout. Why would we now want to see the same Yuna robes or Kitty Cat get up in yet another game? Can fans honestly say that the route Square Enix has chosen indicates diversity and imaginative thinking? Giving Lightning costumes from previous characters is like giving Asuka Kazama customisations so that she can look like Lili! :shame:

I would definitely prefer if these 80+ costumes were completely original works, with new concepts behind moveset and character ability. This way, they would be giving fans, both old and new, value for their money and reward for their loyalty; not just rehashes of concepts they created 10+ years ago.

The only reason I don't like this latest outfit is because it looks pretty horrible on Lightning. I feel the same way towards many of the other costumes that were created. :mokken:

I don't have an issue with increasing content by having fun outfits to wear (especially since they serve a function in battling), but I don't particularly like the designs. And while Aeris' costume looks rather natural and pretty on Aeris, I don't think it does much for Lightning's character.

I suppose the costume designs don't necessarily have to reflect the character's personality (clearly many of them already don't), but I feel like a "revamp" on the costume catered towards Lightning would've been much more interesting and not so predictable (like many of the costumes are becoming).

:chan:

I don't like them using other characters clothing on a new character. It makes no sense to me. I get that it's fan service, but seriously? I don't like Lightning, but if I did I would want her to be herself, not to be dressed like other characters instead of herself. I mean, the dresspheres in X-2 were pretty good, and I got the feeling they were doing something similar with this new game. Lightning would wear different clothing and have different abilities/stats to go along with them. How is putting her in other characters clothes positive for this game in any way. It just seems gimmicky and cheesy, and very unrealistic in terms of Lightning's character.

I discourage the idea of giving Lightning her immediate predecessors attire. It's in my opinion, an eyesore to watch Lightning walk around with the previous Final Fantasy characters' outfit whom we grew up to love. I mean, why does Lightning always have that vacant look? It makes all these outfits look even more awkward. Aerith's in particular... It makes no sense as to why Square Enix are doing this. It's like the company has a personal obsession with Lightning (or Toriyama in that case.) I know Square Enix made several spin-offs for Final Fantasy VII, but they are taking it to another level with the Fabula Nova Crystallis series which involves around Lightning.

Can't say much about this game as it is pure fanservice and made solely for the Lightning fanboys. Not going to buy this game anyways. If Square Enix bothered taking their time developing the character Lightning and the generic plot of the Final Fantasy XIII compilations instead of her assets I might have given the game a chance.

i think the devs are spending to much time creating outfits for lightning. lol. seems to be all im ever updated with. Id be happy with just the original outfit from 13.
