FFXI is still up and kicking so I hear. Probably dead in comparison to WoW but I don't really care about Blizzard. There's been a new MMORPG announced by Square Enix apparently for the PS3 and Windows Vista. But it seems Microsoft wants to forget about Vista, so that may be replaced sometime in the future. There was that announcement, but it was a long time ago and I haven't heard anything since. Its not like you can just make a perfectly good working MMO in a year or so. I'm sure one is coming eventually, but if your looking for an MMO fix, look somewhere else because you won't see anything from SE in that department for a long time I gather.
Echt, if you want one and SE are willing to fork out the money for it, why not? I'd say "no" myself based on the principal that I refuse to pay further fees after I've purchased the game itself. It is for this reason that I've never played XI and making another MMORPG would just mean there's another collection of titles I've yet to play.
I owned XI a few years ago, but I never got to play it because my nephew broke the PlayOnline disc that you need to run it. And after that, I don't know what happened to it. But I, honestly, don't see the point in a FF MMORPG. But as long as they DON'T slap a roman numeral on it, I'm fine with it.
Yeah, FFXI is still making pretty good money. They have tons of players every month, any many are signing up for their first time still even 5 years after the game was released.
I hope they don't make another MMORPG. If they do, it better not be a main series game. If they want to do a spin-off, go for it. Just no more main title games going online only.
I think, at some point in the next 2-4 years, they will make a new FF MMORPG, however, I think they'll attach the Final Fantasy name to it, but not a roman numeral, so it won't be a part of the main series this time. Simply because of the negative reaction to making FFXI part of the main series. The main series has one MMORPG already, it doesn't need two.
