It's sad to see that there is a disease spreading throughout the realm of Final Fantasy. Geostigma! Does anyone have more information on Geostigma.

I have the movie and I've only watched it twice so I can't remember exactly what the Geostigma was all about.

Someone fill me in on this please!

Peace,
Octavius

Geostigma is merely a fusion of Jenova cells placed within the Lifestream. Effectively acting a lethal, long-term poison to living organisms. Those infected with the Geostigma tended to result in becoming sick, and eventually dying.

There is more, but I can't recall it all right now.

Hmm, there's a lot of theories considering this topic. It's actually very interesting. I read it off from a website.

Geostigma is the result of the body trying to cleanse itself of Jenova Cells, such as the reaction of our immune system. Our immune system attempts to push out the virus and while doing so, causes side effects initiated by the virus itself.

Now the fun part. Could it be that Geostigma is related to the disease that Jenova had set upon the Cetra two thousand years ago? We do know that Meteor has been summoned, causing devestating damage to Midgar, enough for the planet's lifestream to flock towards it to try and heal the wound...

"The planet told the Cetra race that something fell from the sky and hit the Earth. But the wound was too deep. There was no other way than to give the planet time to heal itself."

We know that Cloud and Denzel have Geostigma and although they are going through symptoms of pain, we do not know for sure if they are having delusions or hallucinations yet. It should also be noted that there are scenes where Cloud has "met" Aeris; could she be a hallucination caused by Geostigma?

"To the Cetra it would take on the form of those most beloved to them, their dead mothers, dead brothers. It could show them illusions from their past."
-- Ifalna

We also see the apperance of two wolf-like monsters. Bearing in mind that there have been very few reports of death by Geostigma infection, could these creatures be victims that have actually succumbed to the virus? (Picture below)

"The infected Cetra lost their minds and hearts and soon became Monsters."

Is Geostigma related to the cause of the deformations in the creatures inside the Reactor at Mt. Nibel? Were those failed SOLDIER experiments imprisioned in those pods because of their disturbing reaction to Jenova's cells?

Well? Discuss. :)

I noticed you mentioned the wolves  The wolves have nothing to do with Cloud being affected with Geostigma. They are a manifestation representing his 'guilt' at the deaths of Aeris and Zack. That's all there is to it I'm afraid, and nothing else to discuss on the subject.

As for the monsters in the Nibelheim Reactor - I highly doubt it. The monsters in the reactor were being subjected to Mako, not the Lifestream directly. Though it may be a form of Geostigma that is doing it, it won't be the same as the one that is infecting the people of Gaia in AC

Lol, I know. I just posted about the "Geostigma" itself and its possible theories concerning the movie and game. I knew what the wolf stands for. ;) Anyhow, I just thought the theories were interesting.

From reading Case of Barret and Case of Denzel, I have to come to learn that the Geostigma began when the Lifestream burst out of the earth. The people that the Lifestream touched during that time, infected their skin severely with Jenova Cells, causing them the stigma. Just as Vincent said it's an alien matter, an alien matter that has come from the Lifestream. The stigma is contagious from skin to skin contact, especially if you touch the black, sticky substance then you'll definantly end up with it. The stigma can kill you, but it all started from when the people who were touched by the Lifestream and other people had touched them, trying to figure out what was happening to them, why they were struggling and why they were dying and after awhile, it just continued to pass from person to person. I hope that makes sense.

As for Cloud being able to see Aerith, no those are not hallucinations at all. It even states that in Reunion Files. Aerith still lives on in Cloud's concious and Cloud's heart. When driving out to the Forgotten City, those were some of his strongest memories of her and so she was able to physically manifest and connect with him. Cloud's guilt was so overwhleming though, she disappeared before he could lay eyes on her. It has nothing to do with his stigma nor is it hallucinating.

Also, the wolf-like monsters are called Shadow Creepers. They did not begin the Geostigma disease, the Lifestream did as I've already explained above. Those were merely just monsters that the three SHM could conjure out of nowhere and control and make them attack.

When i think of the Geostigma i kinda of think of our world's Black Death in the sense of the symtoms you can see on a person who has the illness and the way it is transmitted from person to person by touching the affected areas. And the fact that both illnesses has been devistating in the population of both worlds/societies (whole villages were wiped out back in the 1600s? i dont know the dates exacutly but im thinking of 'Old' London and Europe. I realise there is a world of differance (excuse the pun) between the two illnesses, which im sure someppl will point out, but you can see where the creaters in SE got some of the ideas from. And i think it is the closesed we have to compare GEostigma to. But i also think of the way people treat or ward of the sick, they have the same mind frame in both world... if you can understand what i mean. meh what do ppl think
