Anime Anime you just can't get into for some reason?

Say you're looking around for a new series to watch and everyone's talking about the hottest new anime, so you're intrigued; if everyone's talking about it, I should check it out, too! But as you start watching, something is amiss. Something is wrong. Some aspect of the show is driving you so far up the wall, you've made friends with all the spiders. In the end, you just can't watch anymore.

So then, what series or series...eseses have done this to you? For me, both Code Geass and Higurashi no Naku Koro ni have turned me off for the exact same reason: the character art is appallingly bad. I tried going through both series several times, but...I just can't stand those character designs! Like, at all! It's literally maddening for me.

For me, I can usually identify the reason why I can't get into anime, it's never just "some reason". I was never able to get into Naruto, Bleach, One Piece or Code Geass, and the reason was immediately apparent to me: they were all a load of bollocks. The story was non-existant, the characters were poorly designed, and they felt more like cheap American anime cartoons than proper anime. Awful, awful stuff.

Eureka Seven I couldn't really get into...I watched it all the way through, but the ending made no sense whatsoever, the only characters I really engaged with either died (Charles and Raye) or got barely any screentime (Anemone), and the whole thing felt extremely pointless. Like, why did I watch this again?

I was never able to get into Durarara, Hetalia or Baccano either, but I think that was mostly because I've been harrassed ever since they came out to watch them. A lot of my friends online are worshippers of at least one of the three series, and they insisted that I watch them. I watched a bit of all three, and I didn't care for any of them...they just didn't seem that exciting to me. Mediocre to average, and I prefer not to waste my time with anime like that. Funnily enough, I like being entertained.

The latest series of Pokemon isn't something I can get into either. I watched the anime religiously as a kid, then stopped after Johto, and I started again with the advent of Diamond and Pearl, because it actually started to get GOOD again. All of the characters underwent some fantastic character development (Dawn was handled far better than May was, I think) and, whilst it ended AWFULLY, because they decided to hack the anime and bring in a trainer with a motherfucking Darkrai, it was still amazing whilst it lasted. Now...it's just gone right back to the start. Ash is an idiot again, his new sidekicks are poorly-developed filler, and it's full of those crappy fifth generation Pokemon. It's lost all the magic it got back in the Sinnoh series.

I found the first season of Bleach watchable, but season 2 was made purely of fillers. What should have taken two episodes didn't even take 24 - they don't save Rita until season 3! I just don't see the point in anime series which follow a simple story yet contain countless battles and fillers, none of which are creative. If they had compressed Bleach into 30 episodes or so, it would have been so much better.

Naruto is much the same as Bleach so I haven't even bothered with it... The movie I've seen was also terrible and I have to agree with Martel insofar as the characters are awful.

I had also heard many good things about Wolf's Rain but was sadly unable to get into it.

Anime series which focus on battles more than they focus on characters and the relationships between people just don't interest me. :(

Edit: Oh, and oh my word, I wasn't able to get into Azumanga Diaoh. I tried. I really tried. I gave it 12 episodes. I watched half of the series. But it was made-up entirely of repeated jokes, which were overdone and just ridiuculous. I felt embarrassed watching it and every attempt to make me laugh instead left me looking something like this: :brow:

Durarara!! - I guess the reason is that it's way overrated... Every time I ask for suggestion they mention Durarara!! calling it one of the best anime ever. I gave it a try (I'm not biased toward anything except maybe One Piece) meaning I watched 14 episodes of it, and I still couldn't see the hype about it... Every episode was amplifying my boredom, I just couldn't continue it...

Welcome to the NHK!
- I don't care what people say about this anime, but it's got to be one of the worst I've ever seen, it's the same as Durarara!! It was so boring I could die...

- Sure it's good and all, but it's overrated, I wasn't that impressed about it. Really, when you keep hearing people say something is EXTREMELY good, you put up high standards and you just can't get into it no matter how fun it is from the disappointment.
