Anti Otaku bill

Actually I believe these restrictions will apply to Tokyo only. Now while most of the anime/manga companies are based there, there are other regions/areas in Japan where anime/manga's produced, so this is hardly the "end of anime and manga" as some have made it out to be.

4chan was up in arms about this a couple weeks ago and now "BANNED IN JAPAN" is a running joke.

Hmm so in otherwords no loli in anime/manga.

I don't mind, aslong as they keep the Tsundere stuff, makes for funny anime!

Loli anime/manga has always kinda creeped me out....

EDIT: I just watched the rest of it....Government's gonna wreck anime. it doesn't just apply to Loli's. it applies to EVERYTHING that makes anime/manga worth reading/watching.

Epic fail.

I agree with Masamune II.

Loli anime/manga is really creepy. I don't see how its so popular. Why is staring at children/lolis appealing? :(

I think this will greatly help Japan. My friend said there is too much bad coming from it and that it might help.

Hmm....

:ffs: This is just another one of those things where I have to scream,

RESPONSIBILITY!!!!!! :rage:

Seriously, is it too much to ask for human individuals to take responsibility for their own actions, and not blame the media for everything that's bad in the world? :hmph: And for law enforcement to place the responsibility on criminals themselves, and not try to say that some form of media influenced them? FFS, some of that stuff, like homosexuality, isn't even a crime anyway. Some of the things they mentioned are just based on personal taste and aren't harming anybody if there's consent involved.

Honestly, any time something gets censored like this, or there's an attempt made, it just shows that the government totally has their head up their ass. Anyone who thinks that seeing potentially offensive material in the media will "influence" someone to commit those things IRL is ignoring the fact that people have a CHOICE whether to emulate what they see on TV or not. A CHOICE. A CHOICE. A CHOICE. That means, THEY'RE RESPONSIBLE for their actions, and NOBODY ELSE is! :gasp: OMG wow, what a fucking innovation of a concept! "Wait, what? The artists aren't the bad guys?" Holy crap, what's that smell, because I think the government would shit their pants if that thought ever crossed their one pound of brain matter.

And I mean sure, there are a handful of people out there with mental disorders who could have trouble figuring out the difference between fiction and reality, and try to emulate things, but who's to say they wouldn't come up with such things on their own, or from witnessing disturbing things IRL that happen because the law enforcement isn't good enough at stopping actual RL crimes? :mokken:

I try to stay away from the really graphic/explicit stuff anyway if I can, because like the chick in the video said, most of it is just fanservice and things like that often have crappy stories. However, if something like Fullmetal Alchemist or Code Geass wanted to have a disturbing scene in it somewhere like that, for story purposes, it would really suck to have to have it censored or removed just for the authenticity purposes. Hell, there's all kinds of disturbing stuff in those stories as it is, where do they draw the line? I was disturbed by some of the human alchemy experiments in FMA, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't have been in the story--it helped define whether characters were ethical or not, by showing who was willing or not willing to do certain things. I don't think that sort of thing would be okay IRL, but in fiction, no one's actually getting hurt or turned into some sort of grotesque monster by it.

I could go on forever, but I'll stop here :jtc: I just really hate hearing about things like this, even if it doesn't go into effect as a regulation. The attempt is enough.

I don't know if this bill will be effective since it will only concern tokyo area. If the goverment managed to pass the bill, a lot of the banned material will end up on the net and people will only have to go there to watch it. Maybe they should only have put an mature tag on those products if they are that offensive.

Hmm Banning anything not real life related and all that is illegal in real life, yet they won't really do anything about all those Pornified TV programs and gameshows they have scattered all over the place huh.

Yeeeah fully sic bro!

Japan is more sexually active and perverted than Amsterdam......

It is? :ohoho: wow now I really want to visit Japan...:yay:

To stay on topic -

That sucks..anime is about the details and fragments of real life and converted on screen by the use of awesome animations..

Combine it with fantasy and its one epic journey for people.

Strip away those elements and it will turn into plain cartoons..
The death of anime..

Although studio Ghibli may supply us whenever and forever anytime ! :griin:

ehh l lived in japan and its amazing but as far this law passing i dont think it would matter much....
japan has been fine all this time why change... (okay loli
anime can go) (maybe some porn too pretty rampant) besides japan has some pretty strict censorship laws right so it should be fine however even if the bill is passed anime wont truly die just like yakuza tattoos you just gotta know where to find em...

Personally, thats stepping on toes of media control. From memory, they were really vague about what it can cover. So what the dudes in the ministry felt like was inappropriate that day, they can ban.

Okay, Loli, i understand. That does/may promote pedophilia. Rampant fanservice, okay, soft porn, i can see where they come from.

But what about appropriate gore and psychological animes? Gantz and the recent Puella one fall into shaky areas. In actual fact, i can twist any anime into being "socially" harming (hyperbole here) if i wanted.

Itd be so much better if it was more clear cut on what it would affect. At the very least, Anime producers as well as mangaka can have guildlines as to follow rather than hit and miss what is inapproriate.

I lol'd...

This is essentially the Japanese version of the Prohibition, and even then I'm not too overly worried since I've heard that the PM is against the bill. If they wanted to make an effective bill, I agree with Tipsy, they need to be more specific in what has to stop.

Though even then, I doubt it would come to pass. Then again I have been wrong before. Censorship is a hell of a thing, especially when it comes to "Freedom of Speech and Expression."

Personally, the anime/manga business is HUGE in Japan. You shut down their hub (aka Tokyo) their ailing economy is gonna take another hit. I think it can do without another attack. I think its on the same lines as banning and restricting american comics.

"Sorry, too much fighting in your DC and MArvel Comics. Only thing you can print is now Archies"

"No wait, scratch that, Archies show a form of bullying. No more printing archies."

And etc.

Massive pbulishing companies liek shueisha is gonna cop a hit. Plus, i heard the massive manga publishers boycotted some anime/manga convention SPONSORED by the Govt.

Srry, if i may seem very aggressive abt this, but i am an anime/,manga fan.

Indeed, with laws like these, it's no wonder why China overtook Japan's economy. They keep doing crap like that and it's economy is gonna drop out the range of the Rest of the Great Powers of the world.

Back on topic: I'm glad I hear that the manga/anime companies are boycotting a Gov't sponsored convention. It shows that the bill is unpopular, but what about the people of Japan themselves, what do they think of it?

Unfotunately, while there are a lot of grumble and mumble, no real demonstrations as to what i have heard from. Im sure if the anime/manga community banded together, they'd make a sizeable force to contend with.

Alas, it seems to have gone through and waiting to be implemented at the end of the year.

What i wanna know is whether this is a state/ province govt decision or a federal one. If state and what you said about their PM not liking it, then there is a good chance that they might do something about it from above, or at the very least, get it to be reviewed once more for its obscurity. I mean, its a bad thing to have the anime/manga commnuity hating you cuz they make such a large %

IMO, the law is too big to be in the Prefecture level, though I don't know how Politics in Japan operate, and how different it is compared to the United States, Great Britain or even Australia. If I find out, I'll let you know.

True, but this is Tokyo we talking about. Its damn big, like Sydney "prefecture". Im rolling my chances with that however. Come to think of it, if the worse comes to it, the publishers can move shop outside of Tokyo and continue there. Tokyo would lose shit tonnes of tax or however the damn thing works. And good bye hald of akibahara. I so wanted to go there once more before the shit hits the fan.

Well, whatever happens happens. Would only be a matter of time before someone tries to make a sensible choice before it becomes law. At least that is what I hope.

Lol. This is what i called epic fucked over.

It has emerged that Tokyo governor, manga ban proponent and prominent rape novelist Shintaro Ishihara has sent letters to ten of the publishers now boycotting the Tokyo International Anime Fair, which he chairs, begging them to relent and return to the fold.
The revelation came to light when a DPJ legislator quizzed the governor on what he was doing about the ongoing implosion of TAF; in his response, Ishihara revealed that his administration had sent the publishers grovelling letters claiming the Tokyo government “wants to go forward hand in hand with your companies in order to make the event a success.”
The news prompted widespread derision – previously, on hearing that they planned to cancel their participation Ishihara commented (shown above) that “Who cares if they come or not, they’ll be back next year. For all I care they can stay away forever.”
With their own ACE event well in hand in neighbouring Chiba, and all companies of any quality having abandoned TAF, it seems unlikely the publishers (and certainly not the mangaka) will be in any mood to back down – least of all with Ishihara forced into a humiliating retreat.

On a side note, WTF?!

Seriously. WTF?!

He is a rape novelist.

We have a rape novelist complaining of the fanservice and "bad influence anime and manga might have on society"

Who let the nut run the nuthouse?

(XD Cmon peeps. Lets see who recognise that line)

I have a conspiracy theory related to this.

You see, Japan has been experiencing a decline in population for a while. I believe the cause of this is that too many people are falling in love with 2D goddesses. People would prefer to be with a fictional character rather than a real person even though they would never be able to actually feel them. The government sees this as an obvious problem. Too many Japanese are experiencing the joys of 2D from a young age. The government is trying not to expose the coming generation to this while at the same time exposing them to erotic 3D shows.

This ban does not affect shows with real people in them; only shows with fictional characters are affected. The coming generation will be exposed to real women and fall in love with real women. Then, the population will go up.

This is the real meaning behind this ban. :rage:

That... or he wants to knock off the manga industry so people can stop reading at worst, rather fanservicey anime and manga and start reading some proper literature.... like his crappy rape novels. Cuz that is SOOOO gonna raise public and social morals... books about rape.

Seriously, if its just normal erotica, then ok, but his damn logic with the ban contradicts his own friggin books. I say shoot the damn guy
