Basch as the main character

So I heard stuff that Yasumi Matsuno intended for Basch to be the main character of FFXII. However, the idea was never realized because they did a study and the public's reaction (mostly teenagers) to having and older man as the main character wasn't good. So therefore Vaan was created. But there's even artwork floating around that showed how Basch would've looked had he been the main character, such as this one:

So I'm curious about what people think how the game would've been with him as the main character. Do you like the idea or not? As for me I guess I wouldn't have minded because I think Basch is a great character.

Oh!! I actually think Bach would have made a great main charachter!! I've had enough of all theese young, blond, annoying teenagers having the lead! And Bach does have a more interesting background than Vaan. But of course, no one would make a better main charachter than the leading man!!!! ;)
 
I think the game would have been a whole lot better with Basch as the main character. I think the story would have been a whole lot mroe intersting too.

The main problem with Vaan is that he just seemed so weak. If they had made him a bit more badass (think begining of the game when he stole the money) instead of whiney, I would have liked him better.

He is easily the weakest main character of any FF game...of ANY game actually that Ive played. He just has no purpose, no real motivation other than I WANNA BE A SKY PIRATE LOL' Ugh, that got old fast

I think I would have enjoyed the game more if Basch was the main character, or better still, Balthier. He had such an interesting story AND his dad was a loon

I might have to replay it and just pretend he is the main guy.......
 
Basch is by far more appealing to alot of people then Vaan, those dumb teens lol. Only kidding.

But yeah, I agree that Basch should have been the lead character. He looks and sounds more appealing. Plus having an older male character would have been a nice change to a wimpy typical teen.
 
Well i agree with what ya'll have said, i prefered Basch to Vann. Vann was occasionally annoying plus his voice drove me mad, where as Basch was the total opposite, he was just cool and awesome and i could actually stand him talking for longer that 10 seconds.
 
I agree, although I didn't mide Vaan that much, his back story was abit weak. I liked Basch alot more, he had more of a motive for what he was doing. Sure Vaan lost his brother, but Basch was sentanced and imprisoned for something he didn't do because of his brother, and he still has such dedication for his job.
 
The thing about Bach though, was that he got a bit too... honourable... if you know what I mean... so unselfish and lojal... in the end I't got kind of boring. but that's sort of the point with his charachter. I agree that Balthier would be the best!!! The only charachter with real deapth!
Lol, I agree about the voice thing.. Whoever it was that had Vaan's voice, did not do a good job
 
I definitely agree with everyone else. Most of the main heroes were all teenagers with either a memory problem or they just whined too much about everything. I wish there was a more mature adult hero that is like Basch to lead a role in the Final Fantasy series.

I think the problem with not having a mature lead character in the game is most of the fans play these games at the early age of 13+ so for kids at that age to have a main character like Basch may seem boring to them because of his personality which is why they keep sticking to these energetic teenage boy type characters to reflect on the kids that play these games at that age because they may seem like fun characters to play.
 
Basch or Balthier would have suited me - both were far more involved in the story. But at least your not forced to use him outside of towns.
 
FFXII is a more mature game,and i think that Basch would be perfect as main character,he is much more involved in the story than Vaan,in my opinion Ashe is the perfect character in this game,because the story revolve around her and she is the princess of Dalmasca rival of the Archadian Empire and Vayne´s home the last boss.
What do you think a female character as a main character? I think would be good =D
