So, the question is, which Final Fantasy game do you think had the best music?

It's pretty hard to choose one in my opinion since all of the games have great music. Final Fantasy IX has some of the best music, like Feel My Blade, the battle music, the boss music, Vivi's theme, Run!, Black Mage Village and Hunter's Chance. They're my favorites from the game, but there's probably more if I went through more of the music.

My favorites in Final Fantasy VII are J-E-N-O-V-A, Jenova Complete, the battle music, the boss battle music, Crazy Motorcycle, Shinra's Full-Scale Assault and again, more.

In Final Fantasy X I liked, To Zanarkand, Jecht Battle, the boss battle music, Besaid Island, Thunder Plains, The Unsent Laugh, Challenge, Servants of the Mountain, Moment of Truth, Launch, and Assault.

From Final Fantasy VIII I liked, The Man With The Machine Gun, Balamb, the battle theme, SeeD, The Landing, Starting Up, the boss battle music, Never Look Back, Shuffle of Boogie, Fear, Martial Law, Only A Plank Between One And Perdition, Galbadia, Under Her Control, heck, I love all of the music from this game.

Other would be Gilgamesh's theme from XII, The Returners, Shadow's Theme and Troops march on from VI. Yeah, there's probably much more.

Anyway, it's pretty hard for me to pick one favorite, I find myself not being able to pick between Final Fantasy VIII and IX.

I think all the Final Fantasys had epic music. It was music that no one in their right mind would listen to. I remember listening to One Winged Angel one day and doing conductor hand movements and everything and my mom walking in. This music just continued to play in the background, and I stopped. We both stared at each other in space while the song continued to put ripples in the awkward silence.

Anyway, the point is, that was a bad ass song even though you wouldn:t really wanna be caught listening to it by people who never played the game. =P

I love Voices of the Lifestream, a compilation of remixed FFVII music that sounds amazing. The orchestra version of the FFVIII overworld song is beautiful.

I:ll never forget To Zanarkand nor most of the other songs in FFX. Cheers to FF music.

But if I was stuck on a desert island and had to choose the soundtrack from one game to listen to for the rest of my life, I think I might chose X. Variety of relaxing songs, angry songs, fast songs, moody songs, and whatever. If I had a system with good bass, maybe voices of the lifestream instead.

Theyre are very few songs i dont like in all the FF's, but if i had to choose which music i think was the best it would be FFIX. That is the only FF that i absolutely loved every song but the others are great too but IX just in my opinion beats em if only slightly.
:hmmm: I wonder if theyre should have been a poll on this.....oh well interesting post. :x3:

The best for me is Final Fantasy IV's soundtrack. The entire game was filled with epic tracks from the opening scene to the ending. "Theme of the Redwings", "Castle Baron", "Cry in Sorrow" , "Into the Darkness", "The Dreadful Fight" are some of the best tracks in the entire series.

The quality of the tracks in IV is amazing, especially when you consider this was a SNES game.

Without a doubt, my vote goes to FF IV.

The longer the series has went on the worse the music has got because it's just revamped versions of older themes if that makes sense. Though I will definately say that FFIX was their prime.

The music fits in with the whole advanced-tech medieval world and some of the music was truly awe-inspiring. My favourite would definately have to be Ipsen's Heritage, but everything was beautiful. There was such a contrast too if you compare the likes of Burmecia to Lindblum, or one continent to another in general. The biggest letdown in music for me in the game though was probably the battle music and the world map music. The two you would typically hear the most haha. The music definately set the scenes which I think was harder to do in the earlier games, than now with the voice acting.

All OST's are amazing, but I definately would say IX is superior in my eyes. X's soundtrack was good, but a bit of a letdown. I expected more out of it.

It's very subjective, as it depends on what game you prefer. I would rather say Final Fantasy music itself IS the best music lol.

Anyway, getting to serious stuff, I will say that FFVIII's soundtrack was the best (because it's my first and favourite FF. See told ya :P) FFIX is excellent too. FFVII is perfect for its time.

But I would say that even though FFXII and FFXIII's soundtracks are fully orchestrated and loaded with choir (especially in FFXIII. It's like half of it's OST equals woman singing in the background), I would say that they lack something. BUT they are still good. I like a couple of them, like Bhujerba OST, Memories of happier days (Vanille's theme), blinded by light, kimi ga iru kara (why do they have to remove this perfect song for the english release!!!!??????), the promise, etc.

I'd of said FFVII until very recently, when I downloaded the FFIX soundtrack and realised just how ace the music was. Well, it's probably a tie between the 2 tbh. Both games have their great stand out tracks, I'm addicted to Dark Messenger and You are not alone atm, im going to start annoying myself with it soon, Im sure. I'd include VIII, but there's a few tracks I dislike there, I really hate FH's tune, not too keen on the world map music either

For me, its between VIII and XII...I'm going to go with VIII, because there are more memorable tracks on it. Shuffle or Boogie is, in my opinion, the most horrendously addicting theme ever, and all of the battle themes are awesome. Especially The Extreme, which I've been rather fond of recently. Liberi Fatali is the best opening music of all of them as well, in my opinion. Its just so much more...atmospheric.

I suppose if I wanted to cheat I could say Dissidia, since that has bits of everything in it~

That said, Tactics A2 has some really good music; a lot of it is from XII only remixed, and it includes my favourites from the first Tactics Advance as well.

Glad to see alot of love for IX here :D
Anything scored Nobuo Uematsu is just uncomprehensivley brilliant, i can't describe the way the music in IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX and X moves me.
I think XII was pretty good too, and even XIII had some OK tracks.

But all those first games are just perfectly scored for the most part, IX is the best though and if you don't agree you need to.. well.. play IX? :)

Even the great man himself (Nobuo) said IX is his favourite :)

Standout tracks for me have to be You're not alone (IX) and Terra's Theme (VI)

I liked Final Fantasy X's music. Shook my boots to hear Jecht's theme song. It was entertaining that it played at perhaps one of Auron's coolest-looking moments in the game.

There is some great music if we're talking multiple Final Fantasy games, but I prefer the more realistic tunes X had, as opposed to ones which seem to sound more "fantasy".

I probably should pay more attention to X's music as well. I get too distracted by the gameplay and story of X.

I love the music of X as well, the last game properly scored by Nobuo if im not mistaken.
Alot of X's great tracks were during cutscenes/storyline moments as opposed to battle etc.

My favourite part was was when you first visit Zanarkand Ruins and it has the scene from the title of the game, when there sat around the fire.
After you leave and you're heading towards the dome, it plays that instrumental Suteki De Na (i don't know it theres a proper name for it) and it stays on in random battles, i love that :)

I actually think that X's OST, while very good, was a little under the bar set by previous Final Fantasy's.
However, we have to remember that Masashi Hamazau also worked on X's OST, and he is reponsible for the lackluster soundtracks of Dirge of Cerberus and XIII, so...

IX's was probably the best for me. I love most FF soundtracks to the point that I hardly ever listen to other music, but... IX was THE FF soundtrack. It just felt like a culmination of all of Nobuo's experience on the other games.

Someday the dream will end is the one i was referring to.
Only uses the main part of Suteki Da Ne.

Best Soundtrack

I apologize if there has been a thread like this already; I didn't see one in the stickies. Then again, I may be totally blind or something, so if I am, feel free to remove this post, mods. :)

Main topic: Okay, so we all know that FF has some damn fine soundtracks. But which is your favourite and why?

Mine, I think, is a tie between IX and X. I think that IX's has the best atmosphere and overall vibe (Especially Zidane's main theme. It's suits him so well!), but I think X has some of my favourite tracks (the music that plays as you're heading across Zanarkand. Seriously, can somebody hand me a tissue? I'm cryin'!).

What do you guys think?

The "Best Music" thread was the most similar one to yours, so I went ahead and merged the two threads. :)

I personally think that FFVI has the best music. I really like terra’s theme which is the perfect song for an overworld theme. Shadow theme and Locke theme are also really good.

I think that forever Rachel and Aria de Mezzo Carattere are two masterpieces that bring emphasis and emotions to their respective scenes, so does the coin song.

Dancing mad is really epic and I just love the black mage version of it.

I'm between FFIX or XIV, but would probably get XIV because it has a lot of variations, and most of the musics are not remixes.

Honestly they're all good, but you asked which is the best, so.... VI, probably, for lovely, lovely compositions and really squeezing every drop of emotion and nuance that could be squeezed out of the SNES's sound capabilities. That said, I think the music of VII is my favorite, and X contains the most of my most favorite single tracks, (To Zanarkand, guh) but isn't so wonderful overall.

Also, I think XIII's soundtrack was pretty awesome. I know I'm one of the few. Just gonna lay that there.

My favorites would have to be FFIV and FFVI, but for slightly different reasons. I loved the songs in IV for their individual greatness, and I loved the overall feeling of VI's score, though I also really liked a lot of the individual songs. FFIV had a lot of really epic tunes like "Within the Giant" and "Big Whale" that fit their parts of the game perfectly, and the more relaxing songs like "Toroia" were quite beautiful. And the famous opera scenes in VI were awesome, but also the fact that they reused themes like Terra's Theme throughout the game in different variations--and yet it was subtle enough that it didn't sound like rehashing or anything, it was like a whole new song each time. I also loved a lot of Setzer's themes, and the variation of his airship theme that was used in Daryl's tomb, it was quite a tearjerker but also a very pretty piece.
