hey just wondering what was your very favorite piece of music in FF12 and why!!
do you feel that sakimoto lived up to the mantle left by uematsu!!

Well, the music is certainly different from Uematsu's, but I do still like it nonetheless. I think some of the music was very fitting in some areas. I like Uematsu's stuff better, but I wouldn't say that Sakimoto didn't live up to it.

Theme of the Empire is one of my favorite songs in the entire series. I like the music in Archades as it is, but the other parts of that song make it so much more epic. I think the tuba's are what do it for me, it's coordinated nicely.

I dont think any of it stood out, it felt like lift music to me. The only music I really liked was at Mt Bur Omicase, the rest was just background noise -_-

I have to agree with you here Kelly, the lack of Nobuo really didn't do the soundtrack much good D:
I mean, it didn't really seem to fit, or have any effect, I mean pieces like Loss Of Me, Aerith's Theme and Someday The Dream Will End really set the scene and provide quite an emotional addition to the games they were in (IX, VII and X), but this is where I found FFXII lacking, there were no astonishing pieces that you really wanted to listen to, or ones that caught your attention. You just didn't notice it, it felt kind of lazily done really. =/

i have to disagree, i feel the sakimoto did a great job in nobuo's absence,
tunes like the salikawood, bur omicase, giza plains and ozmone plain stand out as good as any of uematsu's works in my opinion!!

Cerobbi Steppe and the Rabanastre theme did it for me. Though I guess everyone has to like Rabanastres' theme....you only had to listen to it every 2 minutes XD

As for the entirety of the music, FFXII was the first FF I ever played that wasn't I-V. Thus, I thought that the music was incredible, seeing as I haven't played a 2nd gen FF before. But I have to say that Uematsu has some pretty nifty stuff too. I mean, he basically made Final Fantasy music likable.

But this Sakimoto guy knows how to make a genuine orchastra piece. I like FFXIIs' music more than VIIs' {BARELY} because they all sound stand-aloneish. Or something...

Let's stick to commenting on favourite pieces of music here...and do expand your sentences more and put effort into reasons why you like certain musics:

Esper and Esper Battle: They were good strong pieces really, always had fun listening to them.

Empire's Theme: I always imagine seeing the Judges marching when listening to this :P

Rabanastre Downtown: Funky beats :D - I'm always humming along to it!

Gilgamesh's Theme: Classic epic remix!

I have plenty of favourites, these are just a few xD

great choices thanks for the reply!!

so true, he is an unsung hero in the world of game music, scoring such games as ODIN SPHERE, FF TACTICS, AND THE AMAZING VAGRANT STROY!

Ah, the music in this game was just awesome. It had such a great feel to it. It really helped enhance the mood and the story overall. My favorite piece without a single doubt has to be The Battle for Freedom (The Undying's theme aka Vayne's final form theme). That piece was just magnificent. The instant I heard it I fell in love with it. The epic feel it conveyed made the battle feel grand. IMHO, it's one of the best final boss themes in all of FF, the only one that can compare is One Winged Angel.

Honorable mentions go to: The Ozmone Plains, the Imperial theme, Ashe's theme, and the Cerobi Steppe.

I should probably give my honorable mentions as well:

Cerobi Steppe was mentioned a few times, and I'm in total agreement with that. Others include The Sandsea, Eruyt Village, Clash on the Big Bridge, Stilshrine of Miriam, Time for a Rest, White Room, A Moments Rest, Zertinan Caverns, The Forgotten Capitol, and The Feywood

Ok, that's a bunch of honorable mentions, but hey, they're awesome. Pretty much all of these songs and Theme of the Empire make the whole soundtrack. If the other songs didn't exist, I'd be good with it. So I guess there isn't as many good songs as the Uematsu composed games, but the quality of these certainly make up for the lack of quantity.

Victory against boss
Pharos 1st ascent
Ozmone Plains
Mt. Bur-Ominsace Before and After. Before more than after.
Esper song
Final Boss Music
Battle at the Big Bridge (Gilgamesh Music)
That is all.

thanks for the reply!

great comment and a true statement, i was listening to the ff6 soundtrack and couldn't believe the sheer quantity of quality lol, thats uemasu, but i loved sakimoto too and adore this sweeping soundtrack!! really adds an epic flavour to every area!!

Rofl, now that I think of it, I have to agree with the lift thing. :wacky:
However, I did find the "Theme of the Empire" and "Kiss Me Goodbye" two of the best pieces on FFXII, they both were dramatic in their own ways, Theme of the Empire was more upbeat dramatic where Kiss Me Goodbye was more saddening. =]

FFXII OST ~ Piano Solos

Anyone remember the FFXII OST? A lot of the tracks felt too atonal for BGM and not really piano-esque, but some were really awesome and perfect for piano. I found a FFXII piano OST ( http://www.last.fm/music/崎元仁/Final+Fantasy+XII+-+Piano+OST ), but it's mainly synthesized. So, I hunted down some sheet music for it and recorded a few piano videos of some of my favorites:

any other pieces from the FFXII OST noteworthy to you?

I must disagree with this, I felt that FFXII offered some of the most delightful tunes in ages. I liked the soothing Cerobi Steppe theme, the Rabanastre one and the Balfonheim song which helped create the busy city atmosphere. But, if I were to be honest, I enjoyed all of 'em!

i agree

i agree, some of the best in ages, really some fabuoulus tunes here that never seem to get boring no matter how many times i hear it(maybe the phon coast) but i must comentd sakimoto for his work that goes sometimes unrecognised!!

AAA job well done!

I must put a word in for uematsu who scored the ending song wiith the girl sining, just finished the game and it was truly beautiful and affecting to me!!!

I don't really care one way or another. I like the musics that I posted earlier, and that's about it. Some songs rock. Some songs suck. It just depends on your way of thinking. That's pretty much it.
