This is a very weird anime. In many respects, [C] is a shounen action anime that uses cards and digital familiars like Digimon Tamers or Yu-Gi-Oh. The thing is that the whole thing is oozing with social commentaries with virtually every other line talking about money, finance or economics. So far, this episode has taught me that Japan is suffering a brain drain of it's high sigma individuals who choose a stable civil servant job rather than innovate in the private sector; it has shown that even decent job opportunities are rare in Japan; it even mentions the econ 101 concept of coincidence of wants.

This odd concoction of children's cartoon and rather intricate issues is jazzed up further with some crazy imagery that can only be described at Tim Burton-esque. I expected these kinds of visuals from the man who directed Mononoke and Trapeze, but it's extremely mind-bending to see it used in tandem with such an unusual premise. I'm not sure I like this yet, but it has my interest, and if the fight scenes can get a few "f@ck yeah"s out of me and the social commentaries do not walk me down a series of doors to nowhere, this can end up being a fantastic experience.
