I don't know if anybody thought about it or not... So I wanna find out :)

I am not sure why, but each time I get a RPG game or any other game in which I can control more than one character, I want to do one thing: make the characters fight each other! :randompoke:

Note that I don't mean fights like in fighting games.
I mean RPG type battles according to the battle system of the specific FF.

I just like to feel I have a full control of the characters, and can do whatever I want with them. Of course that this serves as a training as well, as I can try different attacks and learn more about my characters. For example to know for sure who is my strongest tank or strongest magic caster. And there are many other things to check.
For example I always wanted in FFX to know whatever Yuna alone can defeat the rest of the party with her Aeons.

Having the ability to add monster and maybe even bosses to those battles will be even cooler. For example making a fight like:
[Tidus, Tonberry, Rikku] Vs [Semyour, Auron, Lulu]
and you can either control both parties or only one and fight against the other one.

So what do you think? Should SE add such a feature to the FF games?

No.

If you want to see FF characters fight each other, go play dissidia. Keep that kind of stuff out of the main series rpgs.

I didn't mean "fighting" like in Fighting games. I meant just allow the characters do battles against each other. The same as fighting monster/bosses, but characters Vs characters.

Normally I'd oppose such a feature, but having played Star Ocean 3 and unlocked the arena (whatever its name is), I'm totally in love with RPG characters throwing fists at eachother. Who wouldn't want to pit Tifa against Aerith/Aeris, or Beatrix against Steiner?

Still no. Because then you have to come with a logical reason that still falls in line with the plot. This tends to not work very well. Sure Aerith and Tifa will fight eachother. But Why? Have fun coming up with a reason that isn't stupid/ridiculous.

I think there should be. I'm into fighting games so having a VS mode like that in an FF game sounds pretty cool. But, there's already Dissidia, so it's not very necessary. For fun or to pass the time, sure, but I don't see the actual importance.

I never said it has to be part of the plot. It just some kind of Arena thing where you can train or just spend some time.
The idea IS that it'll be available at any time.
Usually making this kind of thing part of the plot will be strange and the point is not to see them beating each other to death. Rather just checking who is stronger without having trouble (as you'll be able either one or both parties) or just having fun doing strange things .
Of course that they can add some kind of tournament side quest or something, but I wouldn't really care about it.

Why everyone think I mean fighting like in Fighting games...

It is like real battles, but you have full control of who will fight who.
Thus you'll be able to do both Characters Vs Characters, or even combine parties of both monsters and characters. Having the ability to combine bosses you have defeated will be nice as well.

As for importance. I usually like to keep my party balanced, so I check their status a lot. I think it'll be more fun to just let them fight and make sure who is stronger and who need some more training. As well as if there will be an ability to choose bosses, then you'll be able to fight against them again with strange parties.
Something like [Tidus, Auron, Tonberry] Vs [Symeour] or something :)
Or maybe doing it the other way around and control the boss in order to beat the same party you used to beat the boss in the first place.
Or just control both parties and do whatever you want :P

*BTW, I am into fighting games too XD

It seems to me that your characters almost always do have a logical reason: They need to practice their fighting skills.

Also, you could always introduce some kind of Arena where people fight for sport.

I think the main reason it isn't added is that it wouldn't really be that fun, because it would get too repetitive. The novelty of fighting your own people would wear off quickly, unless you were playing against another human being. Since most final fantasy games are not designed for two players, that isn't really an option.

Still, an interesting idea.

I just made the characters of FF 12 to fight against each other yesterday (set up the gambits for Vaan to attack Basch and Basch to attack Vaan and both has the exact equipment), so obviously, yes!
I would love if SE put it in as an extra. It'll give the fans of the game a little something fun after finishing the game. :P

No because although this may be cool it wouldn't really work and would soon become boring. You would also use it to train with as some bosses which are easy offer a lot of xp and you would use it to see if your party's strong enough which SE wants to keep a suprise. And you would find out The last bosss and stuff.

I'm going to have to side with Zerokku, I honestly don't see how it would benefit the game, it'd just be a feature that gets extremely boring, extremely fast, if you want to train and whatnot then just go level up by beating monsters. If you want to battle with monsters just play any of the tactics games D:

Put abit more thought into your post please instead of just posting the youtube link please

A feature like this would only work if there was some kind of risk involved. Fire Emblem has countless arenas that characters can fight in to gain extra EXP. The issue with using them is that a losing character is killed, so you have to generally balance out the rewards you gain with the risk of losing a character.

Something similar should happen in Final Fantasy if an arena is ever added. A losing character should lose euipment, cost the party gil, lose skills or the ability to gain new skills, or otherwise be graverly injured and incapable of fighting with the party for a while.

Simply tossing Cecil and Rydia into an arena battle for the sake of seeing who's stronger makes no sense if there is no risk involved. Make the arenas where you not only face party members, but other combatants(which would also include the classes from past FF games). Make the victories worth the effort with excellent rewards, but also make the price for losses steep.

Make the battles have the difficulty of classic Final Fantasy games and I'm all for it. meaning I expect opponents to throw status effects at you , instant death, use magic, and if it could be done, even summons based on the characters you send in there.

At first I thought it was a good idea, but then I thought about it. It would be really fun having your favorite characters battle each other and stuff, but I don't feel that's enough content to make a full game. However, if someone modded something (make it like Mugen, except with the RPG battle system), then I'm sure it would be kind of popular, but, after a month or two, it would drop in popularity because it would get boring. Yeah, that's my two cents.

I think I'm getting the gist of what you're saying. Come to think of it, that would be pretty intense. Having your characters duke it out to see who needs more training, huh? I never thought of it that way (I only thought about storyline purposes). I'm beginning to like the idea a bit more. I can let off steam on the character who's pissing me off. So, yeah, guess it's a yes for me.

it could be like in FFVII with the golden saucer arena except you fight each other.
