I'm not sure if this is the section to put this in but...

Next year I'm going to college. I hate high school because of all the idiots that are there. No I'm no geek or a high class popular person, I'm just normal. I think I'll fit in in College but I just need some info from people, like is it alot different from high school? Is it worth going? Anything anyone can tell me about college would be greatly appreciated. =D

Yep, college is definitely different from high school. You spend more time studying and the environment is completely different. I like the college environment to be honest, but that's just me. I actually plan to go back to college maybe in a few months, so I'm excited about that. =]

Everyone has different opinions and experiences when it comes to college, so I guess you'll just have to find out for yourself. ;)

thank you. =] good luck going back to college. I hope it works out for you.;))

There is no comparing high school to college. College is MUCH more professional like and you can go around without people walking into you or being a general asshat because they think ya look funny. Classes are much easier actually, mainly because people PAY for them, so they actually pay attention and work instead of slacking off.

Alot of colleges have stores on campus that have supplies for classes and also have some other kool stuff you can use.

It's a whole new world to sound extremely corny, but it is.

i am in college right now(ESU)(my fith year...i am on the 7.5 year plan i think) and I have enjoyed my time here...but the one piece of advice i have is go to class...you are paying to go there so make sure you get your monies worth

I've only been at college a half a year now but it's a LOT better than High School. I also hated High school because of all the idiots too. :wacky:
But College is much better because you get to do EXACTLY what you want to do, sure the work is harder but you should enjoy it more as it's your chosen subject.

Oh gosh, believe me I think everyone hated their own respective asshats in highschool, lol.

That said, I'm not in college (university. buhhh) but I'm sure the transition is the same. I just started this September, and I graduated high school in June - so I'm sort of in the same boat you'll be in soon. As much as I disliked high school, and prefer uni, I'll try to be as objective as possible.

Anyways, I think you'll find that in post-secondary, there is definitly a less intimate relationship established in the class. In high school, the teacher I found would get you in trouble, yell at you or whatever if you didn't hand in an assignment/skipped class/weren't listening etc. This doesn't happen in college. You're paying for it, so no one gives a rats ass about what you do. You'll find your education expectations to be much more business-like and clean cut.

Also, the relationship with your peers will be different aswell. You're probably not going to be seeing the same people as constantly as you would in high school, as college lectures/campuses tend to be much larger. Depending on the kind of person you are, this may mean that making friends will be harder.

Don't think that just because you're in college the asshats are gone. This may just because I'm in university, but everyday I come across an abundance of self-righteous douchebags with a very holier-than-thou attitude. They wear scarves, have thick framed glasses, dress in plaid and are commonly seen holding a Starbucks cup :gasp: Well, I'm stereotyping actually, but it's still very annoying when someone raises their hand in a lecture and go on for ten minutes about their opinion on the subject we;re trying to study. Very, very irritating...

Classes are great because it's stuff you actually want to learn, profs are more expert in their field so they can be very helpful when you need to be clarified about something. It just sucks when you get a shite prof though, but it may even out because some profs here grade on a bell-curve system - it's a system which grades you based on the entire class performance. So even if you get a crappy prof, chances are everyone else won't perform so well in that class. So if you get 70% on the midterm, and the class average is 60%, you actually did extremely well. I can't guarantee everyone does this, but it seems most of the profs here do it.

That said, I'm sure you'll enjoy college much more than high school. No silly dramaz and all that stuff, just straight up people wanting to learn and do something with their lives :)

Secondary education is one of the most botched things in the United States. It's absolutely horrible. I have absolutely no clue how it is conducted in other countries but we are certainly not very good at it. High school is one of the biggest wastes of time for every teenager in America. There are six years of absolutely no education and then college launches you into an entirely different world altogether. It's pathetic but no one seems to have come up with a better solution yet. College is much different from high school.

I live in the United Kingdom (UK) and our system's ok really. Sure the teachers can be strict but they MAKE you learn.

Eh. High school is what you make it. Most teenagers don't give two shits about learning, and there isn't a lot the government can do about it. Advanced classes are there for those who want them.

I'm a freshman at Mizzou and let me tell you college makes highschool look like a huge joke. I mean you have every freedom you can imagine in college. As for assholes yep they are there and they are known as frat guys. I mean you see it in movies and you think nah there can't be people out there like that... well they are there. But i mean thats life your bound to run into an asshole or two sooner or later right? A word of advice and I know it sounds cheezy but just be yourself don't go doing shit or trying shit that you've never done to fit in. I'm also not saying don't have a good time you should do that.:highfive:

As for finding a boyfriend or girlfriend don't go looking right off the bat. I mean there are some beautiful people in college don't get me wrong but as an incoming freshman most people are looking to be single and party it up. So I mean just party and if you find some cool if you don't meh flirt it up dude :P

As for classes pick ones that you think you'll enjoy and do well in. You want to start off your first semester with a nice high GPA. If you don't know your major take gen ed courses. If you already know what you want to be take classes geared towards that.

STUDY STUDY STUDY! The worst thing to do is fall behind cause it'll kill you like no joke this isnt highschool teachers dont give a fuck if you do the homework or come to classes or anything cause they arelady got their money from you paying to go there. THEY DONT GIVE A FUCK they will not chase you or any of that. Your there to learn and they to teach not to babysit. So stay up on your work and set time to study cause tests will rape you otherwise.

Bottom line you have to discipline yourself. Party hard make friends enjoy the experience but also put in work. I mean its your future your paying for so don't slip up.

Oh and also another word of advice WRAP IT UP! Don't get drunk at a party and raw dog some chick that is shitfaced lol you don't want a little you running around and if your a girl then you should already know what the assholes act like by now I mean you just got outta highschool right lol :P

I suppose College (or uni) is better than high school in that everyone is there because they want to be, not because they are required to be there by law (although you do get the odd ones who are there due to parental pressure) which makes the work environment more fun and rewarding.

However, there are asshats everywhere in life, and telling yourself that you will escape them with high school is deluding yourself. That being said, I loved High School and I'm loving university. Don't let idiots get you down!

Oh most definitely college eliminates most of the dumbasses that go to high school. Even in community college (where I go) if you get into the higher level classes you're usually in with the smart bunch of people. I agree that high is a joke compared to college 'cause everything is much more serious and exciting in college. You get to take what you want, when you want, (well, for the most part), and how you want it. Lots of clubs, ECs, and world-class professors are also what makes college so much better.

From what I've already gathered from the few hours a week I'm there, you simply feel more free to do your own thing. You're not chased up with your homework, you're not given "punishment exercises" or detentions for strolling in a few minutes late - it's more real and I love that about it.

I'm looking forward to popping off to University to re-create myself, actually...I don't like the reputation I seem to have attached to me, right now.

Lies! And misinformation! The professors might not hold you to your homework, but they'll assign so much of it that you'll still feel pressured (if not more) to finish your homework night in and night out. Just the amount of reading you do in any major is enough to fill your night or free day or whatever if you want a passing grade. Homework is definitely much more stressful (and more difficult >.>) in college than it is in high school or whatever school comes before that one. xD
Don't think it matters which country's system you go to either.
