Darkness of the Ancients

In a world well divided but peaceful, a great evil was fast approaching. While in the world, none were aware of the dangers soon to develop. In the Knight and Mages schools, the students were impatiently awaiting their exams to become true Knights and Mages. Today was the day of their exams.

Temple of Jade: 1 hour until examinations

Damon, walking around the Temple on the Paladin area wondered what his exam would be based on, whether on his swordplay or perhaps his magic or whether it’d be another boring written exam. He wore standard Paladin Armour with a standard steel sword, though he wasn’t to use it in the exam, naturally. His hair was neck length and light brown in colour, his eyes were light green and his face, still unused to battle remained unscarred. Sighing deeply he leaned against the wall, pondering to himself. He knew it was important both for himself and for the Temple, but at the same time he really couldn’t be bothered.

Heading to the Cafeteria, one of the few ‘neutral’ areas for Paladins and Dark Knights to see one another. It didn’t take long after entering before he was pounced to the floor by a seemingly large weight. Looking up he saw Kylie, a friend of his from the Dark Knights side. She wasn’t actually heavy though, it was the overly large Dark Knight Armour she was practically forced to wear.

“Kylie! Gerroff me!” managing to push the weighed down Kylie off him. Black armour aside, all you could see of her was her light skinned face and long blonde hair, well, some of her long blonde hair as the rest was hidden behind her helmet. Rising to his feet he helped Kylie up before grabbing an apple for the ‘journey’ to the exam. His appetite tremendous however, he had already finished it mere minutes after walking out the door.

Temple of Topaz: 1 hour until examinations

“Booooooooooooring! How long are they going to make us wait?” Jessica was sat down on the stone steps outside the exam room; she hated school enough as it is without being forced to suffer waiting to take an exam when sat outside it. Being a Red Mage, she was limited enough that she didn’t need other worries to top it off. She wore standard Red Mage clothing, more for comfort than anything, her light brown hair went partway down her back, but she kept it brushed neatly enough to stop it getting in the way. “Well once it’s over we can go have fun!” Mandi called over, trying to cheer her up. Mandi wore a large White robe with the hood down, revealing her long blonde hair which, if she was much shorter would probably reach the ground in no time. “She’s right you know. Just focus on what you’ve learned and you’ll do fine” Mark called over, not letting his head leave the book he was revising on. Mark wore a single black robe with short black hair, he also had his reading glasses on, and nobody knew whether he wore them for reading, or just to look smarter though, most people weren’t really bothered by it at this point though. “Well that doesn’t help when I barely revised!” Jessica replied, her red hat falling on her face as she leant back. “Where are Ami and Amanda anyway? Shouldn’t they be here? Don’t tell me they got to rearrange the time again!” Jessica moved her hat back onto her head as she sat up again, leaning forward with a groan.

In their room, Ami and Amanda, losing track of time were listening to music, in-between getting ready for their exams. Amanda got dressed into her light green geomancer robes while Ami put on her white and orange time mage robes, after getting dressed the two young girls ran as fast as they could to the stone steps before it was too late.

Shinobi Monastery: Mission Briefing

“Slayer Agent Vikki, you have been selected from among the finest students in this Monastery to carry out surveillance, and possible assassination” Vikki, knelt at this point with her head bowed to the grand master lifted her head to look him in the eyes “Grand Master, I accept. What would you have me do?” clearing his throat the Grand Master lifted a red scroll from under his robes “we wish for you to investigate this young man and, should he show any signs of change I want you to kill him without a second thought. I assume you know what changes I refer to?” Vikki nodded her head “Yes, I do know” rising to her feet, Vikki set off to her target’s destination... The Temple of Jade.

Temple of Jade: Examination Time

Damon and Kylie both joined their respective class sides of the examination fields, the exam to finalise if they were prepared or not would be decided not with courage, wit or iron will but with the steel of their swords. In the first round, Damon had to face a student of the Dark Knights, he didn’t look terribly tough, all looks and no fight. Damon didn’t like these kinds of people and made it a personal goal to put at least one scar on his face before disarming him. Hearing the bell signalling them to begin he readied his sword, a simple single edged longsword before his opponent, slowly circling his foe it was clear his opponent was the furthest thing from ready, his gaze unfocused, his legs and arms shaking and his sword looked to be too heavy for him to even lift properly. Mentally sighing to himself Damon slashed forward, taking care to only cut his cheek enough to scar as he dealt a harsh punch into his opponent’s torso, knocking him straight to the floor, gasping for breath. After a moment of applause Damon stepped down, watching the other fights take place. With such a large arena it was hard to distinguish which Dark Knight was Kylie, which reminded him of the comment that Paladins generally say of Dark Knights, that they all look the same.

After a few more battles of varying excitement, Damon was called up again, not for an award but instead to fight the strongest among the Dark Knight pupils. An unusual request when he’d only fought once, until he saw quite clearly he was set to fight Kylie. Not a person he was expecting to fight, he never exactly thought of her as much of a fighter, from her light hearted attitude.

Temple of Jade exam rooftop beams: Damon vs Kylie

Having watched the entertainment, or lack thereof Vikki was slowly starting to see little point of watching. The fights were FAR below par, until the two strongest were set to fight. Vikki, while still not expecting much turned to look, seeing Damon however reminded her of someone. Taking out the red scroll from under her Ninja robe and opening it, her suspicions were correct. This ‘Damon’ was her target, being in a battle situation could rouse him, she thought. It would be better to remove him from battle as soon as possible, but at the same time, a Ninja who shows their face is a dead Ninja. Remembering her Ninja tools she found a single unused smoke bomb, if things got messy she could use it to kidnap Damon and get out before anyone spotted her.

Temple of Topaz: Examination in Progress

Having been organised into two rows facing one another, the examination was to begin. All being given staffs they were then addressed by the High Magi “those on the left, attack those on the right with your mightiest spells! Those on the right, defend those spells with mighty shields!” among the rows of students, Mark was to attack the defending Jessica, Amanda was to attack the defending Mandi and Ami got one of the students to defend against. Their ways of attacking and defending were free for all as long as they were used in the correct fashion.

Jessica, seeing her opponent immediately began to shake; Mark was by far the best Black Mage in the school, even among the higher order of Magi he was on par, while she was a Red Mage with no outstanding qualities. Mark could easily destroy her...

Amanda, being placed to attack Mandi knew her attacks were unique among the Magi branches, consisting of magic produced by the environment. However, Mandi was a very powerful White Mage; it would be far from an easy battle. This was quickly shown when Amanda launched a blast at wind which was practically brushed aside by Mandi’s reflect spell, flying into the ceiling. Amanda expected nothing less from such a powerful White Mage but was nonetheless worried that she wouldn’t be able to lay a finger on her.

Ami, stood before her attacker was to defend his spells, watching the nervous pupil having issues with hitting a girl let off a below-par fire spell, not even having the power to reach Ami. Sighing very openly at this she uttered a single word under her breath “stop” immediately her opponent was frozen to the spot, capable of little more than breathing. She thought her skills were up for better examination than this.

Mark, more than prepared for the examination closed his book and put it under his robes “I assume you’re ready? Relax! I’ll go easy on you” Jessica, while quite relieved he wouldn’t use his more powerful spells, still didn’t feel right to ‘cheat’ the exam. Slightly smiling she nodded and readied her staff. Mark used a simple fire spell, arrow shaped and deadly fast. At Mark’s level however it was many times stronger than anything that could be mustered by the other mages, Jessica countered with her own fire spell which, while obviously outmatched she managed to divert it’s direction to avoid her. Passable at least, even if a poor display of power.

As the students were about to finish for their results an explosion erupted from the ceiling, an out of control spell perhaps?

--------------------------------------------------------------

And there’s chapter 1 finished, feel free to comment ^^ who will win between Damon and Kylie? Or will Vikki intervene to stop the mysterious ‘change’? And what was the explosion caused by? Was it truly a magical mishap? Or perhaps something else? Find out next time :D

Damon said:

Me, of course. Loving it so far. I think it's going to turn out even better than your first one. Can't wait for chapter 2. :awesome:

You're kind of making me want to post my story on here...:hmmm:

(y) Nice job, Damon, it's a good read. Has a bit of a Hogwarts feel, with the Knights' school thrown in the mix.

Keep writing. :monster:

I was instantly hit by a Balamb-Garden-feel rather than a Hogwarts one probably because of the word "cafetaria". I would so prefer Damon's fictional academy rather than Hogwarts, because apparently, you can't use electrical things in Hogwarts whatsoever! :gasp:

Anyway, I like what you've done so far, Damon! You know I do because I've said this before in the SB. Looking forward to chapter 2, hope that hot chocolate earlier worked! :monster:

Well I have 2 characters in planning that aren't staff so it's not impossible to add ye in :awesome:

Also folks, i've been working solidly for 2 hours and i've almost got chapter 2 done /broken my record

Expect it within the hour :D

A mystery revealed

Temple of Jade: Damon vs Kylie

Damon didn’t really want to fight his friend, but it’s not like he had to kill her, he’d just knock her out or something. Readying himself for Kylie’s attack he held his sword in both hands in a defensive stance, Kylie started to charge him, this kind of behaviour was strange to Damon, and she was far from the attacking type. Trying to focus on the battle Damon was easily forced back, the force of Kylie’s strike was enough to vibrate the blade itself, something was very wrong here...

Temple of Jade exam rooftop beams: Damon vs Kylie

“Something very weird is going on, no trainee has that much power...” Vikki thought to herself, it looks like that smoke bomb may come in handy after all. Slowly crawling along the beams she positioned herself below Damon so if anything happened she could dive in and be out before anyone was the wiser. If things carried on though, she’d have to rescue him.

Temple of Topaz: Examination Interruption

With the explosion came an end to the examination. As teachers moved the students out of the building a single man, for lack of a better description leapt from the hole the explosion created. He was completely unarmed and wore clothes patterned in black and white. His face deathly pale and his hair shaped like a star with black at the bottom and white at the top. Even though incredibly thin, his appearance alone created caution. “Well, which of you is the ancient?”

Weval Farm: Afternoon

A small man, living solitarily with his friends, while he himself is unknown he has talents beyond that of a human. Capable of giving intelligence to animals, creation itself is his power. Argor, a man of great mystery, living with the most unlikely of friends. More than once people have tried to get him put in a circus due to his choice of company though he has fended them off several times. Producing his own food and drink to feed many families over due to his gift he noticed a great stir in the air, something was coming and he was afraid.

Temple of Jade: Damon vs Kylie

Still unable to get an inch over Kylie, Damon’s strength was fast slipping; even if he had the will to fight all out he lacked the strength to do so by this point. Just as he was about to cave in to Kylie’s superior strength a strange rock hit her in the head, confusing her for a moment. A moment later the room was filled with gas and before he could react he felt the wind blast in his face as he was lifted, with eyes shut he thought he’d died, was he about to go to heaven? A moment later he landed, but all the wind made him go too far, hitting his head into a rock and passing out.

Temple of Jade: Examination end

With Damon gone, Kylie stood lost and confused. One of the superior Dark Knights walked behind her and placed his palm against her back and the next thing she knew she had collapsed.

Temple of Jade: Kylie’s room

Awakening in the dark, Kylie’s mind was soon filled with all that she had done, flashing in her mind. The images came rushing in causing her head to fill with pain. She’d attacked Damon, she’d lost control, the Dark Knights gave her something before the fight, did they make her lose control?

Temple of Topaz: Ruined examination hall

The teacher’s duty was first and foremost to guard the children but they knew full well this man was far beyond them. Then a thought occurred to them, in order to protect the children they could simply use one as a means of sacrifice for the rest of the children’s safety, as well as their own. “H-here is the ancient, N-N-Now will you go?” the teachers pushed one of the children forward, the black and white man took a single look at the child before pointing at the child “That is NOT the ancient! Do not try to fool me with your trickery, mage!” the black and white man gathered white energy into his finger, then like a beam it fired into the child’s skull, piercing neatly through it before the child fell.

In response to this, Mark, Mandi, Amanda, Jessica and Ami barged past the teachers “You monster!” Mandi shouted out, far different to her usual calm attitude. “Heheheh, well then. It seems we have some heroes, I wonder if any of you are the ancient? Maybe we could make this fun, whoever doesn’t die must be strong enough to at least be examined!”

Having nothing but their staffs equipped the 5 had to make do. Before anyone could even cast a spell Mark stepped forward “I’ll take the lead, Mandi will focus defence, Amanda will cause distractions, and Jessica will help where appropriate. Ami... Focus your time magic on me and our enemy.

With no questions asked everyone followed his commands, Mark was their greatest asset in battle right now and was the smartest member of the school. Stepping forward he tossed his staff aside, much to the shock of everyone present. Staffs were a mage’s strength, what was Mark thinking?

This was answered as he removed his book from his robes. “Foul creature, I hope you’re ready, this will only hurt... A lot” Mark scanned over his book faster than anyone could keep up until he placed a finger to a page “Sorry to keep you waiting... Take this!” A giant comet of flame erupted from his hand as he pointed it outstretched at the man, the man, shocked and glad of this surge of power barely blocked it with a black and white variation of this comet. “Hahaha! This will be much more fun than I hoped! Would I be addressing Mr. Ancient?”

While the man was focused on Mark’s power, Amanda raised a stone pillar from the foundations to take the man off guard while Mandi raised a protective shield before he could counterattack.

“Hah, you think those weak spells can stop me!?” the man flew up into the air and generated a huge golden barrier, just as it began to glow a voice called out “What are you doing you idiot!?” the five mages looked around, unable to find the origin of the voice and before they could hazard a guess the man was enveloped in black and just as he began to fade he called out, sounding like an echo “you got lucky this time! Next time the ancient is mine!”

Mount Seela: Night time

Groaning slightly as he awakened, Damon found it was night and he seemed to be inside a tent. Crawling out of the tent he got to his feet, a young woman was laid down on the hard rocks, assumingly his rescuer. Looking around it became perfectly clear he hadn’t died, and this certainly wasn’t heaven. Although, upon closer inspection of his saviour’s body, it sure felt like it. Shaking his head over it he ignored those thoughts... For now and carried her into the tent. He was awake now so she may as well use it.

Weval Farm: Sunset

Argor suddenly felt a dark presence appear far away, far more powerful than anything before. Something was happening and he needed to find a way to hide.

-----------------------------------------------------

And next chapter is done :D so, what was the strange man trying to accomplish, who or what is an ancient? Will Damon be able to keep his mind out the gutter long enough to get off the mountain? Will Kylie solve the mystery of her own mind? And what role will Argor play in these events? Stay tuned ;D

Awwww no fair, Mark kicked my ass.. or he would have :mokken: Bastard. I'll be talking to him about that. HIS GLASSES ARE JUST TO MAKE HIM LOOK SMART.

Oh god, Argor's character is going to be epic :8F: I can tell already... xDDDD

... Quit looking at Vikki :ahmed:

*whips* Write more or I'm blocking you on MSN :mokken:

I'm glad to finally read this. It's got lots of actions. However, I just have one issue.

Try spacing out the paragraphs a little more. It was hard for me to read the dialogue at some point. Here's an example of what you could do in the future.

And the revised version might be this.

The teacher’s duty was first and foremost to guard the children but they knew full well this man was far beyond them. Then a thought occurred to them, in order to protect the children they could simply use one as a means of sacrifice for the rest of the children’s safety, as well as their own.

“H-here is the ancient, N-N-Now will you go?” the teachers pushed one of the children forward, the black and white man took a single look at the child before pointing at the child.

“That is NOT the ancient! Do not try to fool me with your trickery, mage!” the black and white man gathered white energy into his finger, then like a beam it fired into the child’s skull, piercing neatly through it before the child fell.

See how easy it was to read?

I didn't want to put a downer on it, Damon. Just thought I'd lend you a hand? :wacky:

Aside from that, excellent chapters so far. I do agree that it's a Balamb Garden feel when I read it, which isn't necessarily terrible at all. It's fabulous! Keep writing and PLEASE stick to this story? xD

Yeah, I thought some paragraphs were a tad big :P once my internet wants to work with lappy i'll have the next chapter up

The baby birds set free

Mount Seela: Sunrise

As the sun began to rise, Damon squinted as his eyes tried to adjust to the light. After a minute his eyes were able to open properly, turning around to wake the woman up he found the tent was empty, where had she gone? Getting up he took a quick glance around the area before determining she wasn’t here. He scratched his head for a moment in thought, before finding himself face first in the dirt the next. He found his legs pressed down, his back weighed down and a dagger on his throat, the woman was waiting in ambush the whole time.

Temple of Topaz: Headmaster’s office

Shortly after the battle with the strange man Mark, Ami, Amanda, Mandi and Jessica were brought to the headmaster’s office

“Mark, first and foremost i’d like to thank you for keeping the pupils safe. It is refreshing to see what a fine young man you have become, both your skills of leadership and your capability to drive the enemy back. I also thank you Ami, Mandi, Jessica and Amanda for supporting Mark in this, i’m sure without you the battle could have gone much worse”

the headmaster’s face suddenly turned more serious at this point. “The teachers who tried to sacrifice the child have both been severely disciplined and brought to the Magi council for severe punishment, their actions today were utterly despicable and my only regret is that a child had to die for nothing but a coward’s choice” the headmaster’s expression tried to lighten up somewhat, more for their benefit than his own “but on a separate and hopefully positive note, your performance today is more than enough to pass your Magi exam with flying colours. Congratulations!”

What would have normally been a joyous occasion was not for these 5 students, while passing the exam was a hard endeavour in itself, the fact a child died because they weren’t quick enough to act burdened them heavily.

The headmaster, clearing his throat addressed them again “there is a private matter I would like to discuss with Mark alone now, if you wait outside he will be with you shortly” Ami, Mandi, Amanda and Jessica left the room at this point, then silently pressed their ears to the door, trying to see if they could make out what they were saying.

“Okay, now we’re alone... Did anything strange happen with that man?” Mark sighed deeply “So, an interrogation? Well, he mentioned something about an Ancient, it’s highly likely that this ‘Ancient’ whether it is a person or object was his objective; it’s also likely that this Ancient exists in this school, near this school or somewhere in relation to this school. Why attack a school after all? Not exactly much to gain from it” the headmaster half chuckled at this “now this is why I speak to you, you’ve got the brains and power that all others lack, some could even argue if your power is on the same level as other humans” Mark adjusted his glasses before speaking “I didn’t ask for flattery, nor do I want it. What are you getting at exactly?” The headmaster opened one of the drawers at his desk “This... Is what i’m getting at”

Temple of Jade: Kylie’s room morning

Waking from a nightmare Kylie woke in a cold sweat, the nightmare being her controlled like a puppet and killing Damon. She had to find the answers to this, and why she of all people had to be controlled.

Getting dressed into a white shirt and black pants while still shaky at best she made her way to the common room of her dormitory. There were few female Dark Knights so she was relatively alone, thankfully. Taking a seat by the fire she tried to calm herself. “What am I going to do?”

Twilight Matrix

“Bah, I could’ve won if you didn’t stick your nose where it ought not belong!” Zardan called out, presumably to nothingness. “You know damn well we’re not to kill the Ancient and what were you doing? Trying to kill the Ancient! Step out of line again and I can make things VERY difficult for you” at this a young woman appeared from the shadows, she had lightly pale skin with red hair and wore a long dress, perfectly fitting her small frame. While physically she didn’t look like much, she was far superior to Zardan’s powers, hence being his superior.

“Well o’ high and mighty Kelly, why don’t YOU try fighting him and tell me you don’t have to try!? Ancients don’t surrender easy and are a pain in the ass to knock out! Sure I used a little added aggression but hey, there’s always going to be casualties!” Kelly sighed and shook her head “dipshit, you know full well that if that Ancient becomes damaged goods he’s worthless, keeping him tough is exactly what we need to do here, not annihilate him. See, this is why I’M the brains here and not you, the least you could do is follow orders like a good little vassal”

Zardan scowled at this, he knew she was right but he wasn’t one for taking insults lying down “Maybe you’d better rephrase that if you expect your ‘good little vassal’ to remain a ‘good little vassal’” Zardan had his arms folded by this point, he wasn’t going to take this, Kelly merely giggled though “Hah! YOU? Intimidate ME? Who the hell do you think you are? Need I remind you of why i’m the superior? If I hear another word out of you like that and it’s not too hard for me to contact the boss, and you know I will do it” Zardan, not exactly pleased with the counter stormed off, it was pointless arguing with her.

Mount Seela: Morning

“Well... Good to see you awake... I think?” feeling the woman’s dagger jab at his throat told him he’d better shut up “your name is Damon, correct?” Damon, half struggling to stop the dagger from cutting him answered quickly with a simple “yes” the woman, smiling lightly eased the dagger slightly “well then, if that’s the case it looks like we’ll be working together, at least temporarily” Damon, wondering what the hell he’d got himself into tried to look up slightly “er... Why exactly should I help you? Need I remind you you’ve got a dagger to my throat? Seems like foreplay isn’t your thing...” the woman, slightly scowling now nudged the dagger on him again “Whoa! I was kidding! I was kidding! Just a joke... Honest” the woman slowly removed herself from Damon, letting him stand as she replaced her dagger into its holder on her calf.

Damon, having stood up, then muttered under his breath “shame she has to go to waste, she’d probably soon kill a guy than sle-” the woman then shot him a death glare, obviously she heard that comment. “We-well anyways... What’s your name? May as well play nicely” the woman slowly eased her hand off the dagger “Vikki, that’s all you need to know” Damon nodded his head absently “Allllright then, I guess we’d best make tracks then... Vikki”
Walking down the mountain path together, the pair soon heard the sound of rock movement, Damon’s first thought was an avalanche, however nothing happened.

Walking on a bit further they came to a small opening in the path, however before they could rest a young teenage girl appeared, quite eye-catching to Damon, considering what was in view. The young teen wore a pair of dark brown shorts which were tight to her legs with a similar fashion with her shirt which covered all but a small part of her chest. If she was trying to hide her thief identity, it was failing... Badly. She wore a small cap with shoulder length dark brown hair, not that that was what Damon was currently staring at... Taking a few seconds to make his way up to her face

“yeah buddy, the face is up here!” The teen pulled out a dagger “okay, drop the money and I won’t kill ya” Damon instinctively went to draw his sword while Vikki went for her daggers, however they were gone. “Oh, looking for something?” The teen took out her sack and pulled out Damon’s sword and Vikki’s daggers “now no trying to outthief the thief, drop the money and you get to live!”

Considering their options, Damon tried to think on the spot, his weapon was in the sack and the teen guarding it was armed, and there’s no telling how good she is with a knife and he didn’t care to find out. As he was about to cave in to her demands the sounds of rock movement could be heard, followed by a roar, a dragon roar. The teen, obviously panicked by it tried hiding behind a large rock, for all the help it’d be against Dragon Fire.

Taking the opportunity, Damon and Vikki got their weapons back just as the dragon flew into view, immediately spotting the teen hiding. Charging her she ran from her hiding spot, following Damon and Vikki as they found a hole large enough to jump through. As the Dragon began unleashing fire towards them the three went in, Damon first, then Vikki and then the teen.

Damon, unused to falling through holes landed firmly on his backside, Vikki being a master of this sort of thing landed firmly on her feet, mere inches from crushing Damon’s manhood, stepping aside in time for the teen to do what Vikki missed.

Temple of Topaz: Headmaster’s office

“This... Is what i’m getting at” the headmaster pulled out a large book titled ‘Ancients, the facts’ “I’m sure you’ll find this to tell you exactly what you wish to know. However, the truth may not be to your liking” Mark took the book, deciding he’d scan the contents in his free time “what does that mean?” the headmaster chuckled as he pulled out an order scroll “you’ll see in time. Now, onto something else, now you are fully fledged mages you will need two things. A leader, of whom i’d personally see you as most fit, and also a new base of operations. This order scroll will include the chosen base. A templar will accompany you and will be here tomorrow” Mark scowled, there were two things he hated in this world, idiots and templars.

“Why need we wait on some grunt on the holy order? I somehow doubt that we need any help when there are 5 of us” at this the door burst open as Jessica, Ami, Mandi and Amanda, in that order fell into the room. Mark placed a hand to his head “I assume you’ve heard everything? Then I suppose this meeting is over” Mark then left the room, taking the book and order scroll with him.

Weval Farm: Early afternoon

Argor, tending his fields as always received a call from one of his animal friends. “Yo! Where’s that Argor?” a familiar voice called out. Argor, recognising it easily put his wheat scythe down and went to greet his friend. “Steve! How are ya?” An unusual sight to anyone, as a Shark walked in, for in truth this was one of Argor’s ‘animal friends’ that was given intelligence and as a result, enhanced evolution. “So Steve, what brings you here?” said Argor, while shaking his fin. “Well, out in the waters i’ve been hearing rumours of some dark presence lurking around, wouldn’t surprise me if you felt it too?”

Argor nodded gravely “yes, its power is quite... Frightening” Steve nodded in agreement “Mm-hm I hear you there. The aquatic creatures are going nuts, Scotty’s been stuck in his house for weeks now, thanks to fish and the like going crazy and killing each other. I only last since i’m well... ‘Better equipped’ as i’m sure you can understand”.

“Well, what shall we do?” Steve grinned his sharky grin “quite simple, we’re going to have to get allies to get through these troubled times. Neither of us are warriors, but being alone makes us all the more vulnerable. And the sea is the furthest thing from safe, moreso nowadays” Argor had a look of shock “B-But what about people? They’ll try to kill you! I can’t let my friends die”

Steve put a fin on Argor’s shoulder “don’t worry; I can lay low while you’re inside, besides you need some friends of your own kind. There’s got to be people who can understand us out there”

-----------------------------------------------

And chapter 3 is complete  how will Damon, Vikki and the mysterious teen fare in the hole in the mountain? Will they start wondering if they were safer with the dragon? Will Mark learn an unfortunate truth in the book? Will Mark agree to the Templar accompanying them? Will Kylie find a way? Will Kelly manage to get Zardan to do as he’s told? Find out next time :D

Yet another excellent chapter. I particularly loved the fact we were all listening in outside. It sounds like a typical thing for us to do. I hope Damon's ok, he seems to be confuzzled by everything that's going on. Please grace us with more chapters soon, you're encouraging more to write FFF Crisis III chapters myself!

ROFL xD :lew:

Oh poor Damon - though it depends how you look at it! I hope his manhood has recovered for the next chapter.

What can I say? I quite enjoyed that chapter especially with Ami, Jess, Amanda and Mandi listening in outside and the role that Kelly seems to be playing. I can't actually think of a more perfect role that Kelly can play actually!

As for the thief, I'll reserve my comments on her for later.

I like how I am in this one....

Much improvement here, Damon. i mean, i liked the last one, but this one's really engaging. :griin: Especially with the inclusion of Zardan and Kelly, who/whatever they may be. Keep it up!

Great story i like it, im currently writing one myself, but im trying to structure it differently and it gets quite complicated at points i look forward to reading more,

Setting off to new horizons

Temple of Topaz: Mark’s room

Sitting at his desk Mark scanned over the pages, this was no spell book so a simple browse would do no good. Within were details of past Ancients, their strong connection into the world of spirits and in connection, magic itself. It then detailed past known Ancients, all long since dead. Mark began to wonder what this book was meant to tell him, aside from people and anatomy all it detailed really were unimportant traits and some lost artefacts of the Ancients which were either now destroyed, damaged beyond repair or lost to time.

Temple of Topaz: Female Common Room

Ami, Amanda and Jessica all sat in chairs facing Mandi, who stood with her back to the fire, slowly opening the order scroll “Addressed to sir and madams Mark, Ami, Mandi, Amanda and Jessica of the new Magi graduates, your base of operations will be located within Lesar Village, you are to meet up with a contact who will lead you to the base itself. Her name is Kelly and she is highly reputed and powerful, so show her the utmost respect. Your quarters have already been organised, unlike the school you will not be organised by gender so get used to it. A Templar will escort you to your new base, his name is Julius and he is a skilled man in the ways of the Magic Sword”

Mandi closed the scroll at this point “the rest is just boring crap about protocol and the like; still, I don’t think Mark will be too happy about a Templar joining us, if he isn’t already aware. If it wasn’t bad enough he’s a Templar he uses the Magic Sword. Talk about adding insult to injury, this Kelly person too... I hope she’s not some snob who uses her reputation to let her get away with being rude, guess only time will tell” folding the order scroll away into her robes, Mandi sat down with the others.

Ami eventually breaking the silence “the main thing i’m worried about is the whole ‘not organised by gender’ thing, you mean we’ll have to get undressed... In the same room as Mark? I mean, he’s hardly a letch or anything but its still weird” Amanda, having stayed mostly quiet lately spoke up “I doubt Mark will really be interested, will probably have his head in some book anyway. There’s no book Mark’s got his hands on that he hasn’t memorised to the letter”

Mount Seela Tunnels

“Oh the pain! I’ll be out of commission for weeks!” Damon was on the floor, clutching his damaged goods hoping in vain that it would ease the pain. “Well serves you right for not moving!” the teen argued “you’re the devil! How could you damage a man’s pride so mercilessly?” Vikki sighed at this point “just shut up the pair of you! Ugh, why am I stuck babysitting a pair of children!? Damon, shut up or i’ll cut the stupid things off, kid, get lost” both Damon and the teen had shut up, up until the end “and how to you propose I could get lost, even if I wanted to? In case you hadn’t noticed WE ARE LOST!” Vikki, losing her cool at an alarming rate inhaled deeply to regain her composure “alright, fine, we’ll look for a way out, but once we do, go away kid” the teen wasn’t so capable of calming however “Fine, whatever! But I expect all your money when we leave. And by the way, the name’s not kid! It’s Olivia!” Damon, making a semi-miraculous recovery slowly got to his feet, still cushioning his damaged area, however.

Walking cautiously through the cave, Damon led the two women through, as best he could, despite how blindly he was trying to find an exit. After three dead ends, two of which suspected of being the same dead end Vikki pushed Damon aside. “Since you clearly know fuck all about moving through an unknown area, I guess i’ll take point” Damon, still too injured to argue let Vikki lead them. Following Vikki through she eventually hit her own dead end, just as Damon was about to make a joke of it Vikki moved a hand into her skin-tight outfit, revealing a stick of dynamite. Damon, in shocked questioned it “Dare I ask... Where that was put?” Vikki, placing it into an opening in the rock smirked mischievously “you REALLY don’t want to know...”

Out of the view of Damon and Olivia, Vikki placed her hands around the dynamite, lighting it’s fuse magically, before Damon or Olivia could speak Vikki was already running from the dynamite, Olivia pushed past Damon as she ran leaving Damon to escape before the dynamite exploded. Barely diving behind a rock wall in time the dead end was gone. Just as Vikki was about to take the credit however, the ceiling began to shake. Without needing to be told, the trio ran through the former dead end, following the wall of light out into the open. However, within seconds Damon wondered whether they were safer inside the cave...

Church of Rana: Julius’ room

Waking up at dawn, Templar Julius readied his equipment for the march to the Temple of Topaz, putting on his heavy Templar Armour with snow white cape he then picked up his greatsword, a sword the size of a fully grown man and almost twice as thick. It was named Talent, a name to signify power in weakness, the weapon itself was double edged and made from a magical material capable of slicing through almost anything, if a man strong enough can wield it. Julius himself was a well build man, boasting incredible physical strength and a keen wit for the magic arts that he channelled through his blade. His faith branded him a mage blasphemer, a heretic among magic users. Such a title he bore little interest in. His hair light brown and his facial features through to the neck were symbolising his strength, almost to give him a look of a barbarian.

His sword, being too large to sheathe, even on his giant form was carried in his right hand at all times, and embedded in the ground any other time was held in his hand as he left his room. Among the Templars he held the greatest power, but he bore the least discipline, making him appear to be nothing less than a meathead, or a grunt. Regardless of these words, nobody dared face his giant sword, though his superiors hoped one day Julius would take a leaf out of his sword’s book and try to focus his talents rather than thinking himself the strongest all the time.

Being given a mission today, Julius proceeded up the spiral tower to meet with the Master of this church. Pushing open the door before Julius could speak the master commanded him “drop your sword immediately! If you cannot keep it out of your hand then put it somewhere out of reach!” Julius, having no reason to argue placed his giant sword on the ground to his left before looking up to face the master. Little was known of him, aside from his gender. His body was shrouded in a black hooded cloak, and his mouth masked with a cloth to keep his voice unknown “I called you up here for more than to shout at you. We or more specifically you have been given a mission, something i’m sure you won’t be able to fail in, with any luck... A simple escort mission for some mages, you meet them at their Temple of Topaz, walk them to where they need to go, and job finished, any further briefing will be dealt with at the Temple of Topaz, any questions?”

Julius, approaching the master’s desk replied, trying to avoid showing concern. “Do you really think it wise? Issuing a Templar to escort Mages? You know what kind of thing could occur, plus, I hear telling of a Magic Prodigy in their midst, is it truly wise?” The Master, showing a look of disgust looked up to Julius’ giant form “I quite frankly don’t care, you have a mission and you will follow it, unless you’d rather anger our god you’ll do as ordered, questioning me is equal to questioning our god, and in doing so, our faith... But, I suppose i’ll give you an answer. Firstly, I don’t think it’s wise to send Julius the Templar to escort 5 Mages. Secondly I do know what would occur, however i’m expecting you to treat them with respect, if you’d like to avoid any... Accidents. And a Magic Prodigy is nothing but a mage with more brain and braun, surely that won’t be a problem? Now, I hope that’s everything” the master turned around at this point, looking out the window with his hands clasped together against his back “you’re expected to leave in 10 minutes, you’d best hurry”

Temple of Jade: Early morning

Kylie, dressing herself in a simple white night gown tried to sneak out of the common room. She had to find Damon, had to apologise to him. Most people were asleep at this time so getting out should be easy, having no weapons or armour would keep her silent. Keeping her back to the dark walls she could easily hear the sounds of clunking armour as the few guards made heavy footsteps through the corridors. Hiding behind a lone pillar she waited for the guards to change areas, sneaking around them as Kylie made for the exit. As she got close, she realised she didn’t take one thing into account... The gate being shut. Cursing silently she looked around for another way out, from above she saw a narrow hole in the ceiling, possibly her only possible way outside.

Looking around she saw a pillar which seemed to have been the victim of drunken swordplay, with several cuts made into it. Making her way there she noticed they were thick enough to climb up on, after leaping up she slowly and silently made her way up the cut pillar as a guard stood underneath her. A cold shiver ran up her body, hoping he didn’t look up as she made her way onto the next floor, next to a ladder onto the roof beams. It was here that fear gripped her, looking down she realised what a huge drop it would be if she fell from here, gripping onto the beam with her arms and legs she slowly crawled along the beam, keeping her eyes focused on the light in the ceiling, soon she would be able to find Damon... Hopefully.

And after a long delay, chapter 4 is up  what mysteries will be revealed in the mysterious book? What is the connection to the Ancients? How will the five mages handle their new location? Will Julius be able to avoid violence? What was the danger that Damon and co encountered? And will Kylie be able to find Damon? Find out next time :awesome:

Good chapter, I'm intrigued to read more now that all this has happened. Please write more soon!

The scene in the cave leading on from the last chapter still cracks me up. xD So now I'm a Yuffie-like character - which is a plus if I get to annoy a lot of people!

Overall this is a great follow-up to the last chapter. I'm really liking it so far. I like seeing that there may be friction between Julius and his soon-to-be mage cohorts. And I expected there to be a huge sword there somewhere. :wacky:
