The Castle Kameran, towering over the surrounding community of houses, stables, and small businesses. Sunlight beams down on the castle, casting a shadow over the town, and the only time when the shadow of this giant doesn’t fall onto the city is at <st1:time minute="0" hour="12">noon</st1:time>, when there is no shadow. Though the castle is fortified, the city itself is surrounded by a large wall; twenty-five feet high and fifteen feet thick at the top. All the homes and busy people are protected by this wall from the outside world of bandits and rouges, since there are but two gates to enter the city. Scattered along the wall are guard posts that lift high over the wall and allow a grand view of the rooftops and the hills leading to the horizon. Immediately inside the gates are small military bases that one first must pass by before entering the city. The idea is that, in case of a siege or the need to mobilize, action can be taken quickly and the entire city can be defended with ease. It is rather clever as well, since soldiers can train close to home and while they train, monitor who enters and leaves Kameran.

As the story unfolds, many soldiers training for the coming battle. Young children and even the elderly are training. Few have armor, since that is reserved for the real soldiers in Kameran. Perhaps it would be best to look at the cause for training everyone in the city: several weeks ago, a scout noticed a growing darkness in the woods a good deal away. When he went to investigate, ravenous, dark-scaled monsters emerged from the mist, growling with hunger and drooling with delight. A war against demons is not something a kingdom wants to get involved in but Kameran had no choice; the demons made the first offensive. The city was struck in a sudden swarm, and though the threat was removed with force, the city was badly damaged with fires and many good men died. More forces are needed to take a solid stand, or even to strike by. Thus, the king of Kameran sent out a letter to all neighboring regions and small towns for help. Anyone, wether a soldier in another kingdom or a freelancer is wanted. Slowly, like a steady stream, mercenaries from across the land, and soldiers from neighboring kingdoms enter through the gates and begin receiving instructions for their part in this defense. It is organized chaos as everyone prepares, knowing that another attack could happen at any time. This is where we begin…

“ Why ladies,” said the mage with a smile to a few beauties, “ of course I have unlimited abilities, I am a mage after all. Did I ever tell you about the time I used my enhanced genius to slay a dragon? ” All the young women surrounding Farius give a soft giggle while twirling his ponytail playfully. He replies with a suave smirk, “ It was a harsh battle, I had many a cut from the dragon’s claws. I was pinned,” Farius pauses, watching the ladies hold their breath, “But I kept saying to myself.. ‘Farius. You need to fight on. You have to, for love. To find true love, you must fight on and live. For love!’ And so, I gathered all my strength and pushed the dragon over,” panting, he pretends to lift a heavy load, “and there, I drew my blade and slit the dragon’s throat. I had many wounds, but knew that one day, I could live and find love.” He gives a quick glance to the girls to see if they are being charmed by his words, and indeed they were; all swooning and wanting the story to go on.

“But you know, I have all of this inspiration for love, but no one to share it with,” he sighs, “ If only some one, wanting infinite care and love, would be with me at my side.” The girls look at each other, now noticing that they are competition for each other. Farius smirks and continues his act, “ It is a lot to ask of you wonderful, wonderful ladies, but would one, or some, of you wish to experience everlasting love and adoration?”

It was a killer! Yes, the sly mage had them all eating out of his hands. He couldn’t help but proudly smile at his good-looks, wonderful charm, and magic abilities. But just as he was about to go in for the kill, a strong arm clutched his neck and dragged him down the street. In anguish, Farius looked up, only to be met by Darian’s, his mentor and teacher, stern, cold eyes.

“ Young mage,” he said softly, not turning to look at him, “ We do not have time for such… actions. We must prepare the incoming troops and outfit them properly, time is short and the defense of this city is top priority for both you and me!”

Darian, a knight for the king, is a courageous, self-sacrificing man. Everything he does is for the good of others and would gladly give his life for the cause of good. He is the perfect opposite to his traveling companion, Farius, who is self-centered, cowardly, lustful, and obnoxious.

Farius was about to argue with Darian about why he should be allowed to spend time with the girls, be he noticed a focus in the knight’s eyes, something the mage had never seen before. It was Darian’s homeland, Kameran. When one’s home is in danger, a pride rises and takes control. To lose home, would mean to lose everything.

“ We are to head out to the East gate and instruct the incoming troops,” he said while loosing the grip on Farius’s neck and handing him a large piece of paper, “ This is a list of all the men coming to join our ranks, I want you to check each one off as they arrive.”

“ We are getting only one person from the Bounty Hunter’s Guild?” said the mage rather surprised, “ And she sounds like a wimp; “Shenorai”? I bet she can’t even fight well. She probably won’t be much use for us.”

Darian eyed at Farius, “ She is one of the top mercenaries at the Guild, I’m sure she could kill you with ease if she wished,” he gave a chuckle, “ You had better be careful in case she finds out what you just said about her, young mage.”

Farius merely muttered as he dragged his feet to the gate. He didn’t even notice the crying families as young sons were separated to learn the ways of the blade, or the agonizing grunts as workers try to rebuild their shops that had burned to the ground. There was pain and suffering everywhere, fear in almost everyone’s eyes. Stray children wandered the streets, searching for anyone to take them in. Of course they found homes again, but it wasn’t their home. That is why they fight, so that they do not lose their common home: Kameran.

Over the hill, a figure clothed in red rode up to the crest of the hill, observing the mass of people trying to enter through the gate of the city. Beneath her hood, cold violet eyes scanned the area. Her horse seemed uneasy, but the young woman's grip upon the reigns stayed tight.

"...we're late," she said to no one, it seemed, as she referred to the length of the staggered line. "Didn't expect that many to show up."
Well Shen, noted a voice in her mind, we don't want that line to get any longer, now do we?

Shenorai nodded and dug her heels into the sides of her steed, clicking her tongue and bidding the horse to run forth towards the castle. As she neared the crowd, she realized there was, indeed, a lot more fellow mercenaries and soldiers than she figured. There didn't seem to be much of an order here, so she just rode past the mass and beckoned her horse to push through the gate to get inside.

The woman noticed a man donned in robes with a list, going through and trying to check off the names of the soldiers as they passed through. She rode up to him, pulling the reigns to halt the horse before it walked too far. Her hood was pulled back, allowing ebony locks to cascade down to her mid-back.

She looked down at the man and spoke in a clear tone, "This is where we check in, correct? I'm Shenorai Eterna of the Crystan Bounty Hunter's Guild."

It seemed odd for a bounty hunter to be involved in the work of a mercenary, but there were no good bounties up for grabs lately. Shen figured that this should satisfy both her craving for battle and her coin purse.

As the horse skid to a stop, a puff of dust sparked up and got all over Farius’s robes. He likes to keep his appearance nice and tidy, since not all the ladies like slobs. With a groan, he slaps his robes to try and get the dirt off, looking up with a scowl, “Hey, who do you think you are, you careless..”

And then he saw her face. It was divine. Shiny hair flicking around her tall eyelashes. Deep eyes like a wishing well and a petite nose, surrounded by soft gentle skin. Her lips.. rosy.

“..you beautiful, glorious maiden..”

He stands there for a few moments, arms dangling like noodles at his side and his mouth parted. His mind is paralyzed trying to think up what to say to this goddess, but what could he say? Taking in the view blocks out all his thinking thoughts. Before he starts to drool, he gets smacked in the back of his head by the iron glove of his mentor, Darian.

“Young mage!” he commands, “Quit lusting and do your task. The kingdom is counting on you.” Darian inhales with a bit of anger, staring down at the mage with intense eyes. Just for added humiliation, the knight reaches down to the mage’s sleek, black hair and smudges it up into a frizzled mess with his armored glove. Only after Farius starts spitting curse words does the old knight stop and smirk. That would make the mage think twice before annoying the fine women of the kingdom.

But before Farius can protest, the old knight is already clanging in his armor down the street, checking the preparations. It was no use arguing with that old fart anyways, he is too proud to change his mind. He sighs and turns back towards Shenorai and her steed, just as something damp is felt in Farius’s palm. When he goes to look, the list of names is almost soaked in sweat. No matter, he turns his posture so that the list is hidden and doesn’t embarrass him any further. Sweaty guys aren’t attractive.

“Ehh..heh. Shenorai, you said? Might I commemorate this meeting with a song?”

His free hand yanks a small windpipe from his sash, engraved with an ancient writing with phrases dealing with love. He is ready and willing.

Shenorai stared at the mage in front of her. A serenade? Before battle? A few nearby soldiers pointed and chuckled at the 'maiden' and the mage. Shen sighed as her eyes fell down to the tramp in front of her.

"Just put my name down. You can sing after we're finished here."

Shenorai slid off of the horse, kicking up a little more dust upon landing. Keeping a good grip on the reins, she led her steed further into the city. She'd need to find a good stable for the horse: rental back in Crysta was getting expensive nowadays, let alone the price for replacing a lost horse.

Before too long, she spotted the knight from before. Shen was pretty much lost, so she called out to the knight as she pulled her horse along, in hopes of getting his attention.

"Excuse me, sir!"

The knight busied himself with another soldier. With a sigh, Shen pushed her way through the crowd 'til she was in both visual and hearing range.

"Excuse me, but where are the stables and the armory?"

Not long after traveling for a few days, Julius finally arrived at the gates of the city. It has been quite some time since he last Castle Kameran; the old seemingly impenetrable fortress stood magnanimously at the center of the town. Julius was tired after enduring such a long voyage from the distant port of a western town. Breathing heavily and with his boots all covered with mud, Julius dropped his luggage next to the counter, and called the Innkeeper.
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

“Greetings gentleman, how may I serve you?” The Innkeeper replied while cleaning the counter.

Julius pulled an old picture of a young lady about seventeen years old, long black hair, beautiful green eyes and sharp yet graciously facial complexion which made her look like an angel. While closing his eyes and laying his right hand over his chest, Julius sighed and called her name. “Dayanne, where are you?”

The Innkeeper was confused so he asked Julius again quite politely: “Sir, do you need something or are you just going to stand there doing nothing?”

Julius was startled by the sudden question and so he replied apologizing to the Innkeeper for his lack of courtesy. “Sir, my apologies, I was out of my mind. Now to what I came for, sir do you have a room?”

The Innkeeper opened one of the drawers of the counter, pulled out a key and then he gave the key to Julius. “Here’s the key to your room. Go upstairs and then go to the last room to the right, it’s the one next to the window.”

Julius picked the key and dropped some golden coins on the counter. The Innkeeper sighed and then he smiled while he knew what pain made Julius heart ache. “The poor kid suffers of a broken heart, what a pity. Oh young people these days. They love, they tear each other apart, and then they think that they can’t live without each other.”

While walking to his room, Julius kept sighing while staring at the picture of his long lost love Dayanne. “It has been a few months since I last saw you, and I feel as if it were almost an eternity. I lost my will to live happily; I only endure this endless torture only to serve my lord. A life of never ending sorrow, that’s how I feel when I am not with you. Oh my sweet Dayanne, how am I supposed to resist this unbearable pain and live through this nightmare?”

Finally he reached the door to his room; Julius pulled the key and turned the doorknob, opening the door. He then tossed his luggage in a far away corner, took away his armor and then fell on the bed. Not being able to resist his sorrow anymore, Julius bursts in tears.“Why? Please someone tell me why? Why she disappeared all the sudden? Was it because of me? Was it just because I was not good enough for her? Someone help me to clarify this doubts….please….”

Elsa clenched onto the neck of Moonhorn as he sprinted through the forests towards Kameran. Even though there was need for holding herself, Moonhorns magic wouldn’t let her fall off no matter how fast he ran Elsa felt safer holding the unicorn. Moonhorn was running as fast as he could for only minutes ago a group of dog like daemons had spotted them and had been following them ever since.
Though Moonhorn assured that there was no creature in this world faster then a unicorn Elsa would feel more relieved if she was in the city. Though she had only been inside a city twice during her live Elsa knew that inside the city Daemons wouldn’t follow. However Moonhorn also refused to set foot in such places. As font as he was of Elsa Moonhorn seemed to dislike, or distrust humanity in general.

It took Moonhorn an hour but eventually the sounds of their pursuers faded and Moonhorn spoke: “Look the city is ahead of us.”
Elsa slowly leaned to a side to look past the unicorns neck. But for a minute all she could see was trees and leaves. But then suddenly the endless lines of trees seemed to open up and in the distance she could see the city. Moonhorn didn’t leave the forest nor did he stop, while following the treeline he circled around the city.
When Elsa asked why Moonhorn replied: “The guards would ask troublesome questions would you come from the direction of the daemon army.”
Elsa hadn’t thought of such things. Nor did she understand why it was such a bad thing, couldn’t she just explain everything? Surely the guards would understand.
However Alindria spoke: “It’s best not to reveal ourselves right now. Many people won’t understand. After entering the city head for the church of my goddess. We’ll see what we can do from there.”

Elsa didn’t question Alindria, she trusted the angel even though they had only met a few days ago. Perhaps it was because they were connected that Elsa felt like she could tell whether Alindria was lying or not. After reach the other side of the city Moonhorn stopped and sat down so Elsa could safely place her feet on the ground and get of his back.
Elsa turned to Moonhorn and gave him a last hug and said:
“Thank you Moonhorn. I wish you could come with us. Please stay away of those daemons.”
Moonhorn replied:
“Don’t worry I’ll be safe inside these woods. And whenever you are inside a forest, I’ll be there when you need me. Now go, your destination lies over there.”
Elsa let go of the unicorns neck and looked at the city. After waving the unicorn goodbye one last time she started walking towards Kameran.

Though the forest was only a single mile away from the city Elsa still need a whole hour to reach it, and made 2 stops along the way. Elsa had underestimated the distance by quite a bit, because the city was so big, and needed to stop twice to rest up.
But a few hours before dusk she reached the gates and that was all that mattered. The guards looked at her but didn’t stop her nor did they ask any questions. Maybe because Elsa was a child or maybe because they were not taking their duty too seriously.
When inside Elsa looked around and saw many people crowding the streets. Near the gate there seemed to be barracks, in front of it were men sparring each other with wooden swords, while others were in front of large cooking pots. Seeing the food Elsa realised that she hadn’t eaten since this morning. Luckily she had some bread in the small bag that she carried with her. But that would only be enough for 2 perhaps 3 days, and without money she would also need to find a place to sleep.
Alindria spoke: “Don’t worry, the priests at the temple will be able to help you if needed. You can see it over there, close to the castle.”
Elsa looked and saw the tip of the temple, in it engraved the holy symbol of Aditu. Elsa suddenly realised that walking there would take at least an other hour.

IC:

::An endless stream of soldiers continue to steadily flow through the heavily fortified gates of Kameran. Riding past the nondescript fighters, a lady warrior approaches a rather flustered looking mage. Amid the body of listless battlers, one
undistinguished soldier of fortune breaks away from the others, heading for the young mage who appeared to be cavorting with the warrior upon horseback. As he arrives, the horse takes off once more, leaving the young man alone with the mage, still holding his instrument.::

::The man is garbed in the clothes of a commoner. Standard issue black boots, fitting black pants, frayed at the feet, and a tattered black duster coat are all that adorn his body. All his apparel is quite old, and small portions are stained with dried blood, dirt and mud. Even though his clothes appear to have gone through hell, he himself remains impeccably clean, and a soft aroma of rose petals linger in the air about him. His only possession which appears well tended to is his bastard sword, wrapped in a red, silken scarf, carried upon his back. The scarf ties around his body, much like a sash.::

::The man waits for a moment, to make an impression upon the mage, his keen multicoloured eyes taking in every detail, as if he were etching in the mages visage into his memory forever. With his right hand, he draws a piece of paper from his pant pocket, and holds it out to the mage, and with his left hand, he brushes away a few loose strands of his brown hair, which had fallen over his eyes. Scribbled on the paper is one word, the warriors name, "Wullfe".::

Shenorai sighed, not getting a response from the already busy knight. However, one of the archers overheard Shen and tapped her on the shoulder. When Shen turned to meet the eyes of the stranger, she was face-to-face with a tall and rather skinny young man. His clothes were quite plain, bearing earthen colors, and his short bow was attatched to the quiver of arrows strapped to his back. He had a long, clean-shaven face and rather scraggly rust-red hair hanging around his cheeks.

"You need to get to the stables, right?" he asked in a baritone voice, looking down at the woman with the horse.
"Eh, kinda obvious, but yeah," Shen replied.
The archer pointed the thumb on his gloved hand behind him. "You're going the wrong way. It's two blocks that way."
"...thanks," Shen retorted simply before pulling her horse that way.

After feeling like a complete idiot, Shen passed by the gates again, pushing through a thick crowd again. This time, she kept on the opposite side of the horse, lest the mage taking names spotted her again. She saw no need in being embarrassed by his lust.

Shenorai finally managed to slip through the bustle and nearly bumped into a little girl. She pulled the reigns, making sure the horse doesn't accidentally trample onto the child. Though she didn't mean to sound like she's scolding, Shen raised her voice so she could be heard over the noise of the crowd.

"Careful, there! We don't need you to get run over, now do we?"

OOC: Shen, if you thougth that my last post was sad, wait until you read this one.

After spending a few hours wondering about the many questions that were brought to his mind due to his memories, Julius decided that it was time to leave and resume his search. After noticing that it was already dawn, Julius quickened his movement and went outside the Inn.

He once again pulled the small picture only to stare at it for a few minutes. After that, Julius put the picture back inside one of his pockets. While asking questions about his past and trying to find a reasonable explaination, Julius suddenly noticed a young lady calling one of the knights, but he chose not to begin a conversation 'cause he wasn't on the right mood to meet new people.

With both his heart and soul being torn apart by sadness and grieve, Julius' life began as a pleasant dream only to turn into a living nightmare. He was running out of time however for he was being afflicted by a terrible curse which drained his life away as his sorrow grew. If he weren't to find her, Julius' feelings would be drained and his soul would become empty, motionless and meaningless.

Julius: "Dayanne, if only I could find the reason of your disappearance. We were so happy together, with you I felt less like a fighting machine and more like a human. You made me feel better, you made me feel alive and yet you left all the sudden. Why? Now this darkness threatens to consume my soul once again....I can't give up....I just can't....."

Suddenly Julius coughed a little and so he covered his mouth with his right hand. Sadly he noticed a few drops of blood on the palm of his hand, it curse was starting to show its symptoms once again.

Julius: "No....not now...not like this....Dayanne...where are you? I....I...I can't just die without staring at your beautiful eyes, hearing your charming voice or watching you smile one last time...."

With a huge effort and with almost no strength left to keep walking, Julius continued his search and his race against time encouraged by the hope of seeing his long lost love one more time before the end....

::Having made his presence known, Wullfe was then directed by one of the other soldiers of Kameran to simply "enjoy" himself until the call was sent for the warriors to assemble. Penniless, and with only the clothes upon his back, the young fighter wanders aimlessly around the town, seizing this opportunity to memorize the lay of the land. A few hours pass, and by now, he's familiar with most every secluded alleyway, he's traveled nearly every street, and managed to construct a decent map of the town, crudely drawn with dirt on a piece of paper found floating the streets. He stands beneath an open window of one of the local inns, peering over his map, when suddenly, his stomach growls quite loudly. Sighing tremendously, he folds the map into his pocket, and rubs his aching stomach. With much effort, he heaves himself off of his perch, and decides to find a decent spot to sleep. However, as he begins his trek he bumps, rather rudely into Julius. Sparing not a glance back, nor a word of apology, Wullfe continues on his way.::

Elsa quick bowed and started apologizing: “Yes, madam, I’m very madam.” Then Elsa quickly made way to the side of the road so she would no longer be in the way of other travellers.
Elsa reminded herself to be more careful, these crowded streets didn’t seem very suitable for children. One would think that no child would ever go outside here in fear of being caught in a stampede of people going around their daily business.
