I am about as disappointed as you all are that Square Enix chose not to feature this game at E3. So whatever Nomura is cooking up, we'll have to wait for TGS 09.

But put yourself in Tetsuya Nomura's shoes. You're a 38 year old man with big ideas and a hell of a lot on your plate. You're currently directing Versus XIII. What would you like to put in the game? To give you all an example, I would like to see:

1) A scenario where you play the game through the perspectives of different characters and where all events are directly linked to each other. For an example, you're Noctis in one part- and you e.g. kill some enemies. Noctis is then forced to fight another major character.
You then play this other major character (could be Stella) and discover the enemies that Noctis killed- that are actually allies to this particular character. This leads to the confrontation with Noctis etc. It helps piece parts together like a jigsaw.

2) No happy ending. If the game is dark, it will be dark. Though I'll probably regret thinking of this, I think nonetheless it will be a unique direction for a Final Fantasy game. The characters can all die- or the villains can win.

3) A bit of tragic romance will be good to make people shed some tears. That would make the game quite dark of it ends terribly. I'm thinking of something along the lines of Aerith's death, but of course more intense and with CGI.

4) World map (that you can actually walk around in and not just a "choose where you would like to go with cursor" seen in FFX and FFXII) and an actual airship you can manually fly. Nomura has given me some hope here with his hints- so fingers crossed.

5) Realistic night-day cycle like in Dragon Quest, but obviously not as fast. Again, I think Nomura hinted there might be one..........

She's talking about the overmap... you know where you fly around in your airship or whatever?

I wouldnt mind a darker ending for a change, I actualy think that would be pretty cool, I have no idea about ANYTHING in this game, becuase well, I liek things to be a surprise, so please take into account I dont know any thing whern I d liek to demand taking the roles of the villains for a change!

um since when did you not walk around the world map on X or XII ?

In the pre-FFX games, you can leave towns and dungeons out into the world map, where everything is scaled down and you can travel round on foot, chocobos, airship etc. FFX and FFXII didn't have them- just a set of locations where you would like to go to with a 2D image of a map. I hope this clears it up for you unless I'm the one confused by what you're saying.

EDIT: Oops, I'm beaten to the explanation!

I think there's supposed to be a a darker ending, I'm sure I read a while back in a Nomura ending that there's a tragic ending, which probably means someone is going to die xD
I'm not really all that fussed about what I want in it atm since it looks great as it is, but I do hope it's an advanced version of the Kingdom Heart's battle system rather than the button smashing system >.>

If you set your standards this high, your bound to be disappointed. No matter what the game is like. I say : Go in with a clean mind, and have any expectations. You'll enjoy the game so much more when it is released.

I'm actually glad that Versus was not featured at E3 because it's better if the creators don't rush its production. It may have the potential to surpass ffXIII and I certainly hope it does through a long hard thought-out plot and an intricate battle system to compliment the out-of-game storyline. When it comes to versus, I say: Square, take as much time as you need to present to the world, another masterpiece worthy of as much praise as ff6, 7, and 8.

Guess it is really quite disappointing, as I wanted to see some more of this game. Mainly want to see the battle system.

From what I have read on many different sites, many believe the game will be great and will probably surpass the original FFXIII. But many of them are Sony funs who just angry with SE for making FFXIII go multi and say it'll be a failure. I personally hate Microsoft for many reasons, but I won't say FFXIII won't be good just because it goes to XboX as well. But I guess it is :offtopic:

Anyway, as for FFXII Versus, I have quite the negative opinion at the moment. Don't get me wrong! I don't say I don't think it'll be a great game!
It is just that I think it maybe the type of game which I "not totally love".
I have read somewhere that the battle system is most likely will be similar to KH. While that system is nice, is really not my type of system. I usually prefer either a fully mind challenging game (RPG games) or an action game in which you don't really have to think much (Fighting/Action games).
I don't like fusing those two geners (Action-RPG Games) because I am quite lazy and don't like both doing actions and thinking in the same time :P.

But it is impossible to say much at the moment, so I'll stick to this opinion for now.
Besides, usually when I think that a game won't be very good and then it turns out that it is better than what I have expected, it becomes one of my favorites :highfive:.

I like this idea a lot. I heard some complaints, but I really liked the Trinity Sight system in Suikoden III, because you usually can't get the full story from only one perspective. So playing different characters, even characters with opposing objectives, would be interesting.

i'm having the same feeling about Noctis. I think he will die as i've heard tht his story is based on prince Hamlet's and as he dies in Shakespeare's story then Noctis would probably die as well :( :cries: it would be sad coz there'll be no second Versus 13 game with cutscenes :(

If that does happen, you'll understand why Nomura is calling it as being possibly the "darkest" FF game yet :). I think this will be something worth looking forward to- a story where it may not end happily ever after; where a realistic world will rarely result in happiness.

And wow; this is my first ever thread I made shortly after joining the FF forums!

well i iddnt know tht it was the darkest, it is quiet gothic and medeval abit..
but dono, let's see wat will happen. But wat if Stella dies too? wat r u gonna do? :P

I still find it kinda hard to imagine an over world map...
I mean, it was ok back in the day when it was either sprites on the Snes or low polygon models on PlaystationOne, but to imagine something like that on the PS2 or 3 is really weird.... especially when they are trying to achieve something more realistic.

FFX is a perfect example; during the course of the game you start on one end of the map and literally end on the other.
But whatever, this is Final Fantasy we're talking about, its a new system with each title, lets see how it ends up...

The bad guy actually wins in the end ? Didn't they say in 06 that this game is going to be based off reality ?..

The bad guy, usually wins in reality and usually there is no victory for those who do right.

Also heard that the game is based off the storyline of Romeo and Juliet, so don't want a ending of Stella drinking sleeping potion, Notics thinking that she dead. Notics committing suicide, Stella waking up and seeing Notics dieing then Stella committing suicide.. For an ending..
-__-

And don't want no shotgun- guy getting killed off, and then Notics going on some random rampage either... .-__-

I have a feeling alot of people will die in Versus. It just seems to me like the tight knit group of friends will all fall one by one, especially with so much against them. They did say it will be the most mature FF game ever made.

Also, Im excited about the world map. FFXII kinda had a world map, but it seemed like one continuous thing. I liked the fact that I could get in my airship and fly around and choose where I wanted to go. I know FFX2 SORT of did this, but it was more a point and click kind of thing.

anyone think this could possibly be the first Final Fantasy game to carry an M rating?

Probably. You can see blood in a trailer where Noctis impales a soldier (his sword goes straight the guy's armour- impressive).

I have another demand for the game. I would want a different kind of villain. I actually want a villain who I can really hate, and not some antagonistic, rogue God or a misguided, confused person.

Like Kefka, I want a villain who doesn't mind committing atrocious acts. I would love to have a villain who does something I'd absolutely hate him for. I would also love it to start off as a seemingly friendly like character, but then shows his true colours as a bad guy.

Which sounds like a Sephiroth-like character, but I would avoid Sephiroth's approach. The villain I want should have a more realistic, understandable motive. None of this "destroy-the-world" thing.

Realistic, understandable motive? Sephiroth still wins in that regard; he realizes his true origins and feels determined to finish what his mother started.
Kefka just kills and destroys everything just for the lulz (quite literally =P).

I really want to see this game, or at least some news of it soon. The game seems win and seeing Noctis all over the place doesn't help either :thehell: Why haven't we been hearing news on this game yet? Is it not in development at this time or what?

Of course it is. Its just that Square Enix had Final Fantasy XIII as their number one priority.
But now that both FFXIII and Birth by Sleep have been released, SE said that development for Versus has been greatly boosted.

Im expecting gameplay footage at E3, or maybe even before that! :awesome:
