Demon's Souls...forgotten?

I did a search on this, and turned up no results, so that's why I'm starting a new thread <.> No topics seem to be really centered around this, and I'm guessing it's because the game hasn't gone all out with ads or something, but...Is anyone else planning on getting this title? I didn't even know it existed untill about a week ago, thankfully, because now I don't have to wait so long to get my hands on it =]

Also, if anyone who is planning on getting this, add meh :P We can play co-op OR pvp, depending on what you wanna do.

I just bought this game a few days ago for $20. It has it's fun moments, and it can be enjoyable, but there's quite a few problems about it.

Pros:
~You never really 'die', you simply alternate between soul and body forms
~Allows for multiplayer via online connection as well as PvP
~Vast different array of character classes with ability for further stat and spell customization in-game
~Lots of hidden goodies and pretty good storyline with 2 endings
~You're actually able to leave hints for other players and read hints left by other players

Cons:
~Too easy to get lost (no mini-map)
~Some of the later boss fights are shear insanity and require loads of level grinding
~Targeting system (clicking the L3 button) can cause problems and almost precise line of sight in order to activate, or forcing you to get dangerously close to something you want to keep away from to target.
~Camera angel problems in some areas.
~If you lose internet connection, you're taken to the main menu
~When you 'die', all of the monsters respawn, and any boss you were battling is restored to full health.

There was an existing thread of this. The two threads are now merged.

That was a cherry popper. :reptar:

Anyhow. I played this game for a good long while, even during my year without internet it was amazing. You don't need multi to make this game great, but it really helps.

It's really a rather amazing amount of freedom in this game, and it shouldn't be missed by anyone who likes either RPG's or a challenge. There is something of a learning curve if you aren't familiar with games like this, but even once you've got a firm grasp on the controls you should never be afraid to fight dirty. The developers made sure the monsters will, and if you don't think they do, the players after your life definitely will.

Odd, because I looked at the index thread and this game was not listed. Anyways, yes this is a good game, but can be a bit too challenging at times, especially one boss who can outright kill you in a single blow while you're trying to clear the way just to get to it >.>

lololol I assume by that you mean the
Dragon God
? If that is the case, I don't really think I'd count him as a boss so much as a puzzle, don't you think? :lew: Of course he actually IS a boss, but I always felt he was too much of a timing thing to be considered anything more than a "trapped hallway" per se.

Yes, I mean that guy. And no, I consider any monster that can flatten me (lv 47) in one hit and has a life bar a boss. There's really no safe zone in that run, or at least none that I've come across.

There are a couple, I'm on replay three or four now. :lew: Him owning you is something you get used to. I'm very close to level 200 and he still squishes me. I have a video on youtube where I exploit of few of them as well. (y)

I regret selling this game back. :sad3:

I was on my 5th replay after all the speedruns I did. My first main character was nearly close to level 140. Then again, my cousin has the game, and it looks like he doesn't really play it anymore, so I'm gonna check soon if I can borrow it from him.

:lew:

Well I finally got through that mess. However, I find myself in a new one. I freed Yurt so I could get those unnamed corpses for their soul stones, but I can't find Yurt anywhere in the Nexus, where he's supposed to be. Any idea where he could be hiding so I can kill him?

He's on the second floor all the way to the left side (Depending which way the camera is facing). Hiding behind the pillar.

Well, I finally beat the False King. I used a rather super cheap (tactics wise, expensive as all get-out soul-wise) to bring him down without doing much of anything. I farmed about 150K souls from the 4-2 reaper, went to 5-1 and bought 250 plague arrows. Equipped the Thief's Ring and kept my Ring of Avarice on for extra soul gaining power, lobbied about 20 arrows at him until he was poisoned, then waited for the poison to wear off. Rinsed, washed and repeated. Took about 240 arrows to pull off given my low STR and DEX stats (I'm a mage build with Venerable Sage's gear, Old Monk's Headwrap (I managed to kill a player in PvP as the Old Monk boss) Rune Shield for added magic protection and Silver catalyst for extra mana.) so I was reliant upon the poison damage to do the guy in.

My friends keep talking about playing this and I've seen a lot of things about it. I want it but I have no PS3 :sad3: Or money for that matter D:

Well if you ever get a PS3, this should be one of your first buys. It's only $20 at Wal-Mart, cheaper used at Gamestop. Depending on if you want to deal with other players, you can play the game offline or online. Just when playing the game in online mode, if you're in Body form instead of soul form, some players may show up as Black Phantoms to try and kill you. These people can be annoying as all hell.

I've heard of that. Is that when people invade you and try and kill you? Also all the notes that people leave in levels and watching their ghosts die and stuff. I've seen a few things in comics and from what I've been told.

Yes. Players can either invade you, or if they put down a blue seal, you can summon them as allies. Basically people who invade to kill you get their body form back, while blue phantoms are allies that get their bodies back by helping you beat a boss. People can leave notes to warn you of traps, alert you to treasures, or try and mess with your head. If you recommend a note, that player is healed. Also the number of recommends of a note is a good way to judge how accurate it is. a note saying "take a step forward" at the edge of a cliff that has no recommends is pry some kid trying to make others suicide because he's an ass. if that same message has a ton of recommends, it'd pry be worth your time to at least glance down. There may be a landing alcove with a treasure item or a hidden passage. Also clicking on bloodstains allows you to see the up to the last ten seconds before that player died. It's a good way to know whether or not there's some sort of danger ahead that you better be ready for. Most times though, it's people making a bad roll or move that sent them plummeting to their deaths, which is funny to watch. =P

Yes, I'd recommend Demon's Souls as a strong first PS3 game if you're just buying at this time.

And with Dark Souls nearing the release date, there's another thing to enjoy after you beat and or get bored of running Demon's Souls over.

Just a small tip - Start with a wanderer class if you want an easy time trying to through the game with as little issues.

I'll see if I have money for a PS3 by Christmas or something :P I wish I had some other way of making money for this kind of stuff, but I don't.

I dunno. I've found the Royalty class to be the easiest to start with. Soul Burst really helps out in the early levels, plus they start out with high mag and Faith. But then again, I love mage builds for this game since it's easier to deal with enemies from afar, and because with Fragrance Ring I don't have to rely on Spices through the levels, saving them for boss battles instead. But on the downside, not as great to use in melee, and 5-2 is a nightmare since you can't sprint or roll in the swamps.
