So, here's the place for idea talk for an interactive setting. Brainstorming for location, things going on, NPCs, the works.

Personally, I'm a huge fan of Zanarkand, but Dali sounds amazing too...

New Info as of 1-16-11

Things that need doing:

- Flesh out Dali and the surrounding areas (specifically maps, and details on the buildings/areas so that people know what is there to interact with).

- Flesh out NPCs in Dali region (players should have some freedom to interact with NPCs without intervention, the hosts shouldn't have to determine every action for minor NPCs [major NPCs that can impact the plot/setting are a different story]) sub task: make it clear which NPCs are major and which are minor.

New info as of 1-19-11

A location for each game might be a good idea. Off the cuff, here's a couple that come to mind...
Future locations for use:
- Luca (FFX)
- Zanarkand ? (FFX)
- Lindblum/Treno ?? (FFIX)
- Midgar/Cosmo Canyon ??? (FF7)
- Balamb Garden/Deling ?? (FF8)
- Figaro Castle ? (FF6)
- Rabanastre ? (FF12)
- Baron Castle ? (FF4)
- Cornelia/Pravoka ?? (FF)

Well, Zanarkand would be an awesome area. Imagine the city that never sleeps. All those lights during the night and loads of people going around. The technology etc. And Blitzball. BUT it's definitely way too big, not just for my liking, but in general ... way too many people walking around, small chances of characters meeting each-other or even hearing about the deeds of others.

So yeah, I thought I would do a comparison between Dali and Zanarkand to show the strengths and weaknesses of both.

Scale and interactions
* Zanarkand is a massive area, meaning that the chance of people interacting with each-other would be small. Or even the chance of hearing about others and their deeds. If you would limit the actions to just some smaller area of Zanarkand, I personally would feel restricted. And it wouldn't be the same.
* If you would take just Dali, it would be too small. A few buildings, inns and shops. That would limit the RP wouldn't it? By adding the surrounding fields, thinking up a few farm houses, adding observatory mountain, you get a nice decent area where you have quite a bit of freedom while everything centers around Dali the village itself. Which adds a whole new level of interaction between characters or their deeds. For example, if a new face comes to Dali, you would hear about it, even if you don't have to interact with the new guy.

Possible events or themes - It would be possible to create loads of themes and events for Zanarkand, but I can't think of anything that isn't too spread out. You could have major city mayor selections and the whole city would be covered with posters and new NPC's show up and try to make you choose their master. ( Dunno if there was a mayor in Zanarkand, but it was just an example).

In Dali you have the possibly corrupted mayor and you have the black mage factory. Raids from monsters would be possible, a bad farming year could release lots of anger in NPC's. Alexandrian important guys could visit the village to see the black mage factory and so on and on. We could even organize an expedition to Ice Caverns if necessary. And of course, the main theme of the time would be the war time, which would give loads of topics to discuss.

Creativity and freedom - with an area as big as Zanarkand, you could create your own little areas. You would have lots of freedom and the fun of creating something new would never end.
While in Dali, the village would be described fully, leaving less room for your own creativity. But at the same time, it would make it easier to focus on the characters and their actions rather then constantly describing the area. Also, you could think up new things in the fields, although a lot less than in Zanarkand.

Anyway, my vote would go to Dali. At the same time, Costa Del Sol would be an awesome location. Or some Mako Mining village in FF VII.

Ooooh, Costa Del Sol... Hadn't even thought of that.

You know, something that would be an option would be switching the location every [x] amount of time. This means that we can run a season or plot or go until people are bored of it, then move everything to a new area. This would keep it from stagnating and dragging out beyond a reasonable lifespan (I've seen too many good games end in the middle of things because they tried to keep running beyond their main story arc).

All your points are well met, and I think Dali may be the starting place to go with. Unless there are any other ideas?

Alright, I apparently cannot change the thread name, so I'll have to send a PM to a mod to see if that's changeable....

I'll have some free time this coming week in between tidying/cleaning the house, so I'll start working on the setting/NPCs then. Solidjuss, any help is certainly appreciated.

How about Luca? Its a good size, not too small. Has the sphere theatre, blitzball, a cafe, a dock and also attached to the Mi'ihen Highroad if people wanted to fight? But I like Dali for a starting place with surrounding fields.

Sorry I haven't posted in a couple days in here, I've been trying to get some stuff together for this (also, I've been sick, but that's not really an excuse). I sped through the start of FF9 to Dali, and I must say, I had no idea that there was so incredibly much there. The team definitely didn't skimp on the details. I'm going to put together some general stuff on the locations/persons before I put up more, but that shouldn't take too long (couple more days at most - also, it'll be subject to suggestion/change).

I love the Luca idea, I'll add it to a list for future use.

Here's the basics of what I've dug up so far:

Dali setting:
- shop
- weapons/armour
- mayor's place - connected to windmill
- windmill
- inn
- "crops"
- bar/pub

Surrounding areas:
- South Gate
- Guard
- "Part-time Worker" Mary
- Observatory Mountain
- Morrid
- Ice Cavern

Dali Characters:
- Mayor Kapu
- "Snot-nosed" Gudo
- "Pasty" Yacha
- "Bratty" Marin
- Innkeeper Hal
- Shopkeeper Eve
- "Dutiful Daughter" Slai
- Yaff
- Old Lady

Nice :D I played up to Dali as well, but haven't started writing anything yet unfortunately ... the weekend is coming tho, which means free time.

... just been busy in school, sorries. And yeah, Luca is perfect for a future area (Y)

BTW! You missed the black mage factory :D The true layout of the factory and the people working/living in there have to be fictional I guess ... Anyway, good job! Just ask for any help you need.

I've been watching this thread with interest, and while I prefer the big cities, a quiet place like Dali is a calm enough place to start, see if people would be interested.

I had saved and stopped for the night just before grabbing Steiner and going in there to get Vivi back... But wow, major oversight... I can't even believe I did that... :wtf:

No worries about being busy, I certainly know how that goes.

I'm excited to see people are already showing a little interest. This should be a lot of fun.

YAY, I'm so excited that this has some interest. Also the fact that original characters can play people can just pop in and out without having to worry about creating a whole new one. Cant wait.

One of the main goals for me is to help to create something that's fun, really easy to access and generally plain and simple without forcing you to do anything certain, unless you join a special event.
Almost complete freedom ( general rules will apply tho) within your posts and the way your story unfolds, although some events and things will be done by me and JQuestionmark to spice things up, but they will be completely optional for the RP'ers. And certainly, later on, we will have votes on what kind of events everyone want. Maybe a festival, maybe a raid by monsters or black mage outbreak etc. Or a vote to see if everyone are fine with us creating surprising secret events that will affect you. Anyway, first things first. We have to get the setting ready and after that we will let things start rolling on their own. And after that we will think of events etc.

Anyway, good to see you keen on the RP Filendie.

Alright, I've got everything ready for the setting/local characters. I'll put up the actual write up and an intro post later tonight. I'm pretty excited to get things started.

Any suggestions for rules? I don't want to make things restrictive, but we do need some rules just to keep things sorted out...

Hey, awesome stuff :D I'm going to post in a sec.

Anyway, about the rules. I think you covered the main things. Although, I was wondering if you could, for example, bring in a group of people. Maybe a band of thieves or an ensemble of bards?

Yeah, a kingdom hearts character should be perfectly fine, as long as it fits into the world of FF IX :D Can't think how Pluto could fit tho :O

So, who you planning to bring in if I may ask`?

It's actually from my KH RP, The Unsung War Trilogy. 2 of my characters, Raven Otsdarva and Luna Thermidor. (I'll post bios eventually)

That's fine :) If you wish, you can post the bios, but don't have to. You can just give a brief description in the actual RP thread.

Groups of characters would certainly be fine. It's almost easier to play a group than an individual at times...

A band of thieves or a group of bards could be very interesting indeed. Certainly an event unto themselves.
