The first Dragon Quest Monsters Joker was a huge success for Square Enix, selling nearly 1.5 million copies. With numbers like that, a sequel was inevitable. Weekly Jump got first details on that very sequel this week.

The DS followup is titled Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 2. In the logo shown in the magazine, the 2 is surrounded by a circle, but it's still pronounced just "two."

As usual, the details on Jump's single page on the game are pretty vague. According to the magazine, the sequel will offer greater volume than the original, along with new elements that make battles more intense.

By greater volume, the magazine appears to be referring to additional monsters. You'll find over 300 this time. Similar to the original, you'll be able to scout, raise, and combine monsters to make your very own customized beast.

The new battle elements appear to be in the form of direct Wi-Fi combat. The original Joker used Wi-Fi for indirect combat. Players could download monsters from higher ranked players and fight them for items. In Joker 2, you'll be able to face off directly against other players via Wi-Fi.

Joker 2 features a typical Toriyama-like spiky-haired main character who arrives on a mysterious deserted island. As you adventure with your growing party of monsters, you'll solve the mysteries of the island.

Square Enix has yet to set a release date for Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 2.

This is good news. I really did enjoy the first Dragon Quest Monsters Joker game- as random as I found the name. I was expecting SE to push forward with a sequel anyway, though I wasn't sure when because it has been a while since the first game was released.

That means another DQ to look forward to on the DS. I know the Pokemon remakes are already out, but I want to know how DQMJ 2 will fare against its biggest rival. Pokemon may have the more sophisticated elements system, but Monsters Joker has a beautiful 3D overworld etc.

Like Elena said, I liked the first game, too. This should be the same type of fun. Can't wait to get it when it comes ^_^

Hope my friends get it so we can do this wi-fi thing. Never tried it on the first one :sad3:

Dragon Quest was a great game as those above me have said as well. It has a lot more upgrades so, it will be interesting to see what the 2nd one is like^^I'm sure it'll be great with all the new things that are going to be in the 2nd game. The wi-fi seems neat, so I deff can't wait until it releases and play it =)

Interesting :hmmm:

I do like Dragon Quest though if this follows the same sort of game that's found in the main series is beyond me. Although I do have questions, what console/handheld was the first title released on? :hmmm:

The first DQ Monsters Joker is on the DS. Graphically it was impressive for a DS game actually, considering the overworld is in full 3D.

DQ Monsters is basically Dragon Quest meets Pokemon. Instead of having a party of four members fighting monsters, you scout (catch) wild monsters to fight for you. Like Pokemon, it is very grindy- and requires a lot of levelling up as you have numerous monsters.

I do hope that the sequel has more towns to offer than the first one. The story of the first one was alright (with a big plot twist later), so I hope SE keeps up with this one.

Oh right, I'll have a gander at it then when I manage to get a hold of my DS. Sounds promising though, everyone loves Pokemon and Dragon Quest is awesome too! :awesome:
