Finally, after such a long, dreadful wait, we get some news on the Pern movie! The movie will be about the first book, DragonFlight, and is expected 2012-2013. I seriously cannot wait...I've waited years.

What do you guys think? Can't wait? Think it will be screwed up? Never heard of Pern?

Casting ideas? Filming spot ideas?

I'm a little concerned about the Hayter guy. Wasn't his movies hated or something like that? Oh well, I'm positive they will do the film right! :3

Well, it's about time they made a movie on the Pern series. However, I'm just a little paranoid they're going to screw them up... badly. I still remember what they did to Eragon... and while this may not be made by the same people, I seriously don't want that to happen to Pern. :sad3:

I don't want it to happen either. Hopefully they learned from the failed TV series back in the nineties and through Eragon's mistakes. We'll know for sure if the movie is bad if its under an hour...there is no way they could fit it all in an hour.

One of them helped to make Doomsday, which I loved, so here's hopin' its awesome! :33

This could be fantastic...or it could be absolutely awful. To be honest, I can't see how they could make a good movie of this series because of how disjointed the series is. I'd love to see a movie made of The White Dragon though, that was easily my favourite book in the series.

...god help them if they mess up Robinton, though.

Its possible to make the movies to go with the books, they just need to try. If they decide to cut things like they did for Last Airbender and Eragon, then it will fail. But from what I heard, everyone loved the Xmen movies, so this could be absolutely fantastic. :D

Robinton...I would who could capture his character. :hmm:

I'd cite Stardust as an example of a good movie based on a book, personally...I think cutting things out is alright, just so long as they don't drastically deviate from the plot they're supposed to be following. A good example of cutting is removing Tom Bombadil from Lord of the Rings. A bad example of cutting is removing 90% of the story from the seventh Harry Potter films. If they're making a movie based on this series, I expect them to cut out quite a bit to make it all flow...but not so much that it is totally unrecognisable. I think whether it'd be good or bad would depend on how well they managed to do that...

For some reason, when I think Robinton, the first person that pops into my mind to play him is Liam Neeson...

Kainé
I've never read Stardust or seen the movie, so unfortunately I cannot judge it :P
Its fine if they cut things, like a few discussions or scenes that meant nothing to the story. But, for example, if they start cutting the scenes when Lessa is learning how to flight and go in between, there will be a problem...

Gavin AEtherae
You ma likes the series? So does mine xD

If they cast a blond, skinny, no-talent actor as F'lar, there will be bloodshed. 'Nuff said.

Robinton must be played by a person with a natural dramatic flair, and is tall, with a deep voice. My knowledge of actors is woefully limited, so I have no idea who that would be, but he MUST fit those criteria.

:ohoho: I AM SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW! :nana:

They wouldn't change his hair (I hope), though he was really tall in the books. If they made him blond and skinny, they BETTER at least make the movie outshine the change of appearance in F'lar.

I wonder who will play Lessa, or F'nor :-)33). Lessa's actress will have to be a really short, dark haired woman who has eyes that show exactly what Lessa's did in the books. She'd also have to look fiery like in the books xD

I didn't know you liked Pern, Dragon Mage! :D

Eragon would have sucked either way, considering the source material being wet shit. As for Solid Snake writing the screenplay, Alan Moore said he was the closest to adapting Watchmen than anyone else, and Alan hates having his stuff adapted. So maybe we'll have a solid screenplay. Maybe.

Terra Branford: Are you kidding? LOOK at my username! Of course I love Pern! :nana:

Of course, I like more fantasy-esque books and DoP is thoroughly science-fiction, but they were still incredibly good. The only book I can never seem to finish is the third one, though. (All The Weyrs of Pern). I just get..... tired, when I'm about halfway through. D:

That says you love dragons and mages, not Pern :P

Oh my, All The Weyrs of Pern is a great one! I can't spoil it for you, but you NEED to read it. :(

SAD SAD SAD SAD NEWS GUYS! I AM HEART-BROKEN.

Anne McCaffery died on the 21st. This is the saddest news I have heard. I loved her worlds, writing and characters so much. She inspired me to write, got me to read and fall in love with dragons. I always wanted to meet her and tell her how much she inspired me. I was hoping she'd get to see Dragonriders of Pern on film before, well, you know.

This is a great loss to literature and authors. She was and always will be the Dragon Queen and greatest fantasy-sci-fi-dragon author in all the world and forever. May her soul rest in peace and may she be blessed.

Drummer, beat, and piper, blow
Harper, strike, and soldier, go

Free the flame and sear the grasses
Til the dawning Red Star passes.

I will miss you Anne. :( May you ride on the back of a Golden Queen forever in God's Kingdom.

If you guys haven't, I would highly recommend her series, any actually. It is sad that they waited so long to even begin to create the movie. I hope now they will not be jerks and start the film in her memory. :(
