I think FF 9 is the best ever. I like 12 pretty well. I prefer the medieval style, reminiscent of the very first FF game. So I have heard great things about 7, but I have to wonder--if it's so sci-fi/techno based, will I like it? Opinions appreicated!

I think you will. But my opinion doesn't matter, go try it for yourself to experience the magic that is Final Fantasy Sex God....errr I mean VII.

There's soo many threads like this one already in here...

If you enjoy playing a game with a good set of characters and a great storyline, then yes, I think you'll enjoy this one. However, the graphics are nothing like FF9 and certainly nothing like XII - If you're a graphics matters in my game type of person... Other then that, It's a great game, not one of my all-time favorites, but still a great FF.

It depends on what you want. If you want something medieval, then no. But I was doubtful about VII at first, and ended up really liking it.

As for the other great Final Fantasy games...

VIII has a wonderful story, but is more realistic than the other "Final Fantasy"s really. The music is wonderful and the graphics are probably the best out of all the Final Fantasy games on the PS1.

Tried X? Well, that's got a nice Asian feel, and a marvelous story-line. The music is beautiful, the world breath-taking... I just hated the sphere grid, but many didn't/don't. =]

If I were you, I'd look at these threads:
Can't find one for VII. >_<

There you can find various opinions on the games, which are really helpful. ^_^

Ooh I am so biased but I love this game sooo much, I think I prefer the sci fi/techno style which is prolly why I also love VIII but there Is also alot of magic to it aswel (in the story sense of it being magical....lol *confuses self) It really captivated me in every sense, I think I don't rate IX as highly myself because it's not really sci-fi at all....I guess the only way to find out is to play for yourself, the worst that can happen is you don't like it!!

*note I am not a trekkie LOL*

Jesus, just play it and see what you think. Most people end up loving it. You may end it, we cant make this choice for you ...
Pointless.

Jeez, if you don't have something to say, don't post.

Everyone else was extremely helpful, especially the link to the thread that had a thorough review. So thanks to everyone else.

I did try a little of 7 a very long time ago and didn't care for what little I experienced, and I saw part of Advent's Children and turned it off, being like, "WHAAAAT?" But having heard so very many good things about 7 I thought I'd ask the experts. I'm glad I did; it sounds like it's worth giving another shot to! Sorry to have "offended" some folks by asking for opinions and input.

Eh hello? Mod? Dont order us around please. And I did give something to the thread. Offended? Eh, no Im not offedned at a pointless thread being made ...

How do we know you'll like it? We dont even know you, we dont know your likes and dislikes, so how on earth are we going to assume you will like the game??? You may go and get it and get bored with it about 4 hours in. You said you didnt care for it before and AC changed your mind ... Good God.

But hey, its your cash. Not ours.

I honestly didn't like the game all too much when I started playing. Up to a certain point (once you exit midgar) is when I started to get into it more and actually started enjoying it.

But if you liked IX then you should really enjoy this game I think. Even though graphics don't match up to that of IX the gameplay I thought was much more enjoyable. I would say it is more scifi/techno based expecially with the Weapons (not the ones you equip) and places like Junon and Midgar.

FFVII Never struck me as as good as everyone says, but I have to say I hold a much higher opinion of it than FFX-Onward. The only character I ended up liking really was Sephiroth... And a bit of Vincent.

One great thing I had to say about it was that it kick-started the future 3D-style FF games.

I enjoyed it enough to play through a couple times. I really liked the Materia system. It was an interesting concept to be able to equip your magic to specific people. Also to have the materia help or ruin your stat points.

I loved it. You may not, as you're more into the more medicore system that IX uses, but I think that VII was amazing. Granted, I much prefered IX, but that doesn't really matter. Try it, and once you're past the annoying Midgar bit, you'll love it

I really enjoyed the whole Midgar bit, when I first started playing I had no idea whatsoever what was going on as it was my cousins friends game, so I just assumed that the entire game revolved around blowing these 8 reactors up. I don't think I will ever enjoy a computer game story as much as I enjoyed this one

Sorry, but I thought that was a bit out of order there

Answering your question: If you don't like dated graphics you won't like this, it hasn't aged that well graphicly. Lots of people love the plotline, I found it a bit meh tbh, but that's just me amongst thousands of fans who adore it.

It's worth buying considering it's not too expensive anyway.

I'm currently playing through FFVII for the first time. The only games I'd played before it were IV,IX and III. All of which have a medieval style.I thought it being futuristic was a nice change of pace. I could hardly believe my eyes when the first enemies I fought were using machine guns. :P (I did know it was a futuristsic game, but it still seemed weird).
As for the plot, I loved all of it when you're inside Midgar. Unfortunately since I've left Midgar everything's going really slow. I'm currently at the place with all the mountains and railtrack after the 'costa del sol' bit. The plot at the moment is basically 'follow the Sephiroth'. I've noticed that Square likes to use this sort of thing as a plot filler. I'm thinking of the bit in IX where you follow Kuja without knowing what he's up to.
Hopefully though the plot will get back to it's former exctingness like it was back in Midgar.
As for the battle system, it's very similar to IX. Except that you equip the abilities (called 'Materia') onto slots on the items. Generally, the better the item the more slots there are. And you have to have the abilities equipped to use/benefit from them. It's a very good system but I still prefer the one in IX.
Overall, I would recommend it. If you're a FF fan you've got to play VII, even if it's just to form an opinion on it.
Ok, so you haven't got to but you know what I mean.:P

Not many people enjoy the first hour or two of FFVII. I sure as hell didn't. But once firm storyline characters are introduced like rufus and sephiroth, the game will get you hooked. So I think you will like it, and don't be surprised if the first few minutes aren't that interesting because it gets much better.

Your post would have chased drama, hence the reason it was edited. If you have a problem with my opinion, then PM me. And in no way were your words twisted. I didnt alter your opinion in anyway, but that post was waiting to cause drama.
