How many of you have heard of Dwarf Fortress by Bay 12 Games? Don't let the (lack of) graphics fool you: this game has all manners of fun in store for you!
Not only are there multiple play styles offered with this game, but there are entire groups of players who have practiced succession gaming runs. The first player creates the world and embarks upon a chosen land. That player has one in-game year to establish what s/he can before naming one of the dwarves after themselves and passing on the game file to the next player, where they also have one in-game year to develop the settlement. And so on and so forth until the settlement reaches its end.
Thanks to these succession games, there are many tales that have been woven, such as the unfortunate misadventures of the citizens of Boatmurdered.
