Emerald Weapon and The Thing That Should Not Be...

Hey, I was just listening to the Metallica song The Thing That Should Not Be, and I realised that the lyrics reminded me a lot of Emerald Weapon from Final Fantasy VII. (I'm understanding Emerald is the underwater one? If not Diamond?) Anyways, has anyone else noticed these simalarities? Is this just a coincidence?
