It's just Seth MacFarlane trying to cram as many references to pop culture as he possibly can hoping that it will appear fresh and appeal to the audience of brainless freaking organbanks that like the show.

First 2 Seasons were nothing but "Like the time I..." joke set ups. They were unfunny then and they still are now.

All the while the show has gone downhill American Dad has distanced itself from all that pop-culture esque bullshit and turned into an almost reasonably good show.

It's the way of showbizz bub. You take bands for example. You think just because you followed a band since day one that they would never sell out, well guess what as soon as they make that first video on MTV, all shiznit hits the fan. I mean I don't know whats up, some of my favorite bands went the way of the dodo bird because of changing into pop culture.

Now TV shows primarily do the same thing in order to keep good ratings up in order to stay on the air. I mean when you don't have the material for the new generation I say stick with the old stuff and keep your loyal followers instead of changing it all around and making stuff fit into molds.

The Simpsons did it wayyyyyy back, probably '97 when they started fitting molds and such. Then there came futurama that made everything all nice and good again. Of course though it didn't last.

I miss shows like Married with Children and the old type of Simpsons and of course when Family Guy first started.

Classic days.

Honestly, after 11 Seasons the only show I can think of that manages to stay Fresh is South Park.

I followed The Simpsons religiously up until season 13 when it started to get bland.

wow, i never noticed but its so true xD
yeah the only reason i watch the simpsoms anymore tbqh seems to be just routine.
and yeah family guy is a never ending stream of ripping of other shows and people and ... its just a huge rip really isnt it ...
i miss futuramam, they should have stopped airing the simpsons instead,, but no thats matt goerings little baby -_- bs...

Futurama is still going on if I'm not mistaken. I still love the Simpsons 100%, I like Family Guy a lot...but sometimes the jokes can be a little bit too tasteless. Never watched American Dad xD

Futurama just has four feature-length episodes, they decided against another series in the end.

The first three seasons of Family Guy were good, the fourth was okay and now they've just gone far too far with it. I hate how they've changed the characters so much, particularly Stewie. He was much better as the evil genius rather than the "is-he-isn't-he" gay thing he is now.

I find Family Guy funnier in recent seasons than I did with the first few.

The voice acting, picture and sound quality has improved dramatically. The "support" characters like Quagmire, Cleveland and Jo have all stepped up and got their own "things" that make them funny. Where as originally they were just Peter's friends.

Stewie the evil genious thing, that could only go on for so long before it got old and repeatitive. Now, you see more of him as a baby, the evilness is still there and there's a bit of gay humour added.

Brian was boring in the beginning, now he has a personality.

If anything, it's improved.

Comedy Central will be showing 26 new episodes in 2010

Actually, they've decided to bring back Futurama full time! http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2009/06/its-official-futurama-returns.html

While a lot of the cartoon shows get blander over the years, Family Guy kinda hovers between brilliant and crap - some of the more recent episodes have been fantastic, but there have been a few stinkers in there.

Personally for me, the only cartoon series that have been consistently funny are South Park, Futurama and American Dad, the latter in particular is far cleverer and funnier than Family Guy.

Family Guy is better when it's more plot driven, and like DLFlux says, I love how the support characters have developed, Joe and Quagmire in particular are hilarious.

Although, I dislike how Meg went from being pretty much on the same level as Chris, to the character that they all hate for no reason >_>

Well the supporting characters in Family Guy are pretty much the only ones that bring any of the few laughs on the show.

Quagmire easily trumps all other characters on FG

Oh. You're so internet cool. Wow.

Seriously, any need? Could've just said you disagree.

I like that. Quite amusing seeing her being told to shut up when she says something.

It was down to her being boring apparently, seen it on a behind the scenes show. They were wondering what they could do with her as she didn't have much going. So instead of either cutting her out or just having a useless character, they made her a battering post.

i saw that too. They didnt decide to do it she kinda fell into the part as she took more and more stick from others as time fill and to include meg more. Yes i agree some of the new series has been AMAZING i was crying the whole 20 minites the other night, but some are yes getting worse, and w00t how epic they are bringing back futurama

I think the South Park episode that mocked Family Guy largely hit the nail on the head. Too many random cutaway gags, too much political soapboxing (I'm from the same end of the political spectrum as Seth McFarlane, but I hate being preached at), and it's just way too mean-spirited at times.

Think of the image as a 'i full-heartily disagree'

The show fails to produce any memorable funnies but instead is now either just poking lame jabs at other unfunny shows (two&a half men) or celebrities that have more talent than Seth Macfarlane (Lewis Black)

Not only that but what is up with episodes that seem like Seth Macfarlane is forcing his atheist agenda on everyone? In the episode where Meg converts to Christianity she is so blindly turned when Brian says 'huur dhuur you father is ugly and your mother is hot but your ugly' 'oh gee brian you must be right there is no god' not so much a rebuttal or anything.

The show is bland. It's so popular it doesn't have to be funny to get people to watch it. Family Guy thinks it's funny to have pop culture references even if there's no actual joke behind it. So the show's really gonna age like shit.

Really? I've found the more recent South Park series completely lacking in the things that made the first couple of seasons so refreshing and charming. I'm a only a human being and there's a limit as to how many dick and fart jokes and crude satire I can take before it leaves me cold. Another complain, albeit a more minor one, would be the visuals of the later seasons. I much prefer the stripped down, low budget DIY feel of the earlier seasons. It just seemed to fit the content better. To each his own I guess.

As far as Family Guy goes, I was never a huge fan to begin with. I did enjoy the occasional episode and still do, but I can't say I've noticed a huge dive in quality over the years. Quagmire is hysterical though.

Gonna have to disagree with you there. Don't know where you're coming from saying SouthPark is full of fart and dick jokes, completely untrue with south park as a whole. More so than Family Guy especially, since it seems to thrive off that.

i think that after stewie tries to kill lois, the show starts going downhill. he doesnt even try anymore, which used to be the funny parts for me. the show is trying to resist death, horribly:jtc: it needs to back to the old days or its future is grim

Has anybody noticed how many Family Guy jokes and episodes show abuse towards women ?

Could count numbers of episodes were most of the jokes are abusive towards the female gender. Like the episode where they mock the Jestson's cartoon and the Jestson Father throws the Jestson daughter out of the spaceship and when his wife offers him money, the Jeston Father steals money out of her wallet and then pushes her out of the spaceship too, then calls her a bitch.

Just... Don't find that "Hilarious " at all..

But no not a huge Family Guy fan. Feel like the only good character is Lois & The Town Mayor. Chris is strange, Meg is a human punching bag. Stewie is evil genius gone homosexual and the Dog seems to be stopping people from believing in God for some strange reason. We can believe in anything we want, Brain. >_>

And Peter ? Everybody knows he's a Homer Simpson clone gone wrong.

Not cool on American Dad either. It's the same women abusive jokes, teenaged daughter = punching bag and unfunny jokes.

Agree with South Park still being cool though, still love the old Cartman being a moron and Butters !- Where would the world be without Butters ?!? =p

Glad that Futurama is coming back. Made the Futurama taking over Family Guy in the Fox office picture desktop wallpaper.

:) Yay long live Fry & Bender ! :)

Family Guy is not different than any other comedy show, it's always hard to keep the level of "funny" up. Where it is true that some episodes are just plain meh, there are still others that are brilliant. It's been the same since it first started actually.

It's not hard to just change the channel when the show starts if you no longer like it. By watching the show you are added to the ratings and contributing to it's survival. For the next part, check below.

They cut down on the "kill Lois" thing at the right time. It didn't get old. It's not like they are the first show to do something like this. Check out Bart Simpson, he used to be the main focus of The Simpsons years ago, before Homer took the stearing wheel. Notice now how Bart is much less about the pranks as he used to be?

Kenny dieing. That got old and dragged on, and became unfunny. Family Guy dodged the bullet South Park took, they cut out an element that was funny but was destined to get old and boring before it came to it.

It's been the same since it first started is a big problem with it. The only time their episodes are ever any good is when it's more plot driven, which it has been doing a better job lately, but it still uses the same "Like that one time when...." premise 50% of the episodes run time to get their jokes across. The show strives off their supporting characters because they are the ones that have any actual uniqueness. They didn't dodge a bullet, this is their 'kill kenny' schtick. Except instead of doing it once an episode like Southpark used to do, they do it multiple times.

The Show is just running on old time popularity, it's like it doesn't have to be funny anymore because of it.
