A middle-aged man charged round to the house of a schoolboy and throttled him after his online character was killed during a game of Call Of Duty, a court heard.

Mark Bradford, 46, was furious when he was gunned down in the war simulation by the 13-year-old, and 'lost it' when the youngster goaded him over his online death.

Unemployed father of three Bradford stormed from his bedsit in Plymouth, Devon, and confronted the youngster at the boy's friend's house by placing his hands round the schoolboy's neck.

The pair had been playing Call Of Duty: Black Ops against each other online and talking using microphones.

The attack ended when the teenager's horrified mother pulled Bradford off the boy, who was left scratched and with reddening to the neck.
Plymouth Magistrates heard that Bradford then simply walked away without saying a word.

The boy, who cannot be identified, said: 'I was just sat playing. We’d had a bit of a joke and then he stormed in and grabbed me.
'I didn’t know what was going on.'

Gareth Warden, prosecuting, said the teenager was playing the game at a friend's house when he called Bradford a name after he 'killed' him.
He added that Bradford went to a nearby house where the boy was playing, walked into the front room and grabbed him around the throat with both hands.

I find this to be a bit ridiculous xD

What are you guys' thoughts?

Oh god...

Another Idiot corrputed by the addiction of online gaming. The poor Child. It's almost sad. a Kid can keep his cool in an online game. yet an adult can't Really stupid.

I'm glad the boy's ok. and i hope the guy goes to therapy. after going to jail. Because i believe he is no quite right. up there.

:ffs:

However. I have heard of worse. Not exactly of this type. But I remember a 8 year old Girl in Korea Known as "Snowly"(online at least) Died after like 5 day WoW Session. other people have died as well. People have "Cracked" from WoW Kills and Deletion and cancel accounts as well. "The Greatest FREAKOUT EVER! 1" is a good example of this.

It's really sad.

I don't understand how the ould fella found the boy in the first place, unless he told him. In which case, what a moron. Still though the guy overreacted I suppose

I find it weird that they have not released the boy's name, but there are images of the incident knocking around

I clicked the link and the article said "Bradford is thought to be a loosely-connected friend of the boy's family" so that would explain things there... I guess.

It also says that the man has mental issues and such, and I assume there's a possibility of institutionalizing or something.

Either way, this is ridiculous. It's just a game, and nothing to get THAT upset over. :ffs:

The 46 year old only wanted to demonstrate how PvP was practiced when spanking kids for yapping at their elders was still legal in america.

Like a renaissance fair except not.

Yet another moron to be used as an example as "Gaming is evil" ammunition by over-protective parents and Uber-Liddite-Hyper-Christians *facepalm*

The first thing that came to mind when I read the thread title was The Simpsons. People lose their temper over games all the time. I found the article quite funny to be honest.

Why was the kid playing Call of Duty if he was 13 anyway? It's an 18 game, if we're presumably talking about Black Ops :jtc:

But ya, if that's how he treats kids that he plays with he really shouldn't be anywhere near his own, he obviously isn't beyond sore losing.

A 13 year old boy gloating about his victory on CoD in what sounds like a rather obnoxious manner, hmm, it definitely sounds like he's the poster boy of a stereotypical young teenage Call of Duty player. It's become something you expect to come across anyway in the online CoD community (not that I've had any experience with them, thank the Lord...) and while yes, this man is clearly unstable with a very short fuse, a possible danger to his own children and deserves to be prosecuted for this, I won't feel too sympathetic for the boy. Nevertheless, no kid deserves this kind of assault, so I hope at least he recovers from this and shuts up from now on.

Aaaaaand the Daily Mail is probably furious (or rather, delighted?) and will demand that violent games be banned or at least restricted heavily. This is an elixir to them. A story that can be made to sound very anti-games to fit their agenda? Score!

Oh for the love of Pete :ffs:

What's wrong with people, seriously :srsly: ?

People take their gaming so seriously nowadays...and Call of Duty is such a ridiculous game...I can't believe you'd want to throttle someone over losing an online game of it. It just proves some people have no lives...and if you valued your irl life a bit more you wouldn't take your online gaming one so seriously :damon:

People really need to get out of their houses more. ...and not to beat someone down for being a cry baby pee pants about Call of Duty.

Yep, this is just the typical "I am coming to your house and I am going to smack/injure you really badly" type of thing. I know of these threats. This one however, sounds like they knew each other. This is the typical kid we see online all the time. A 13 year old absolutely gloating and calling others names because he won. I can not believe the Father(Bradford) actually went and grabbed the kid. He must have so many mental problems, and my god it is just a fucking game. CoD is one of the WORST online games to do this to people. I hate kids on online games so much, but I would never take a flight to go and kill one or throttle one for that matter. It is the typical behaviour where a kid says "Hahaha you just got dumped or shit on" It even tends to go to "Hahah I raped you!" Or when a kid loses at these types of games, it is something like "Fuck your Mother" Yeah, they need to Shut the hell up and stop acting so Pr0. He is just like every other kid on CoD or Halo.

Or you could mute them.

13, playing black ops and gloating about killing someone? Must be an Xbox player. PS3 gamers are much more sophisticated than that *smokes from pipe*

Id just like to point out (JIM) that I am no way related to this chap :monocle:

While Im not advocating what the nutcase did, theres some arrogant little bastards that like to hide behind screens to dole out their shit, bet the little shit didnt see that coming, i just find it bonkers that there are people that would go to those lenghts over a game. Get a grip

I know what you mean. Some of those kids need a good throttling, but maybe not by a 40+ year old stranger playing Black Ops in his mothers basement who takes gaming way more seriously than anyone should...
He probably thinks "I don't need a life, I'm a gamer, I've got lots of lives"

Or you could mute them.

Yep thanks for pointing that out :)

I always mute them, and the main focus of my post was not to address the fact that they have to be muted. I was just describing the typical stereotypical behaviour of a little boy on a shooting game. Muting does solve the problem for people like me a fair bit, but it really does not solve the fact that little kids should keep their mouths shut. It is basically saying "Oh I can not stand the kid"

But yes, I always mute them if that is what you were willing to know. There was no point in addressing it in my post though, because that was not the key focus of it. Little kids online never change. This is the typical stereotype for any shooting game. Why do they play these games when they are not even eligible? I have encountered little kids of 8 years old playing Gears of War, Halo, CoD and the like. It makes me really sick.

The whole thing is that little kids should shut up. As a result of gloating, you never know when some guy is clearly mental and will actually threaten to find your house. Not everyone will try and do that. People will send hacking threats, or that they are coming to kill you nearby. It leaves the kid in terror, but they should just block communications instead of fighting back.

The kid should've learned boundaries as far as gloating and whatnot. I'm not saying he deserved it, but then again it was his gloating that led to his spanking and whatnot. so, while I do not condone the actions of the older gentleman, I don't really think the kid is out of blame.

This is why I don't play CoD.

I rage like a fucking champ over videogames. I've even thrown a chair out of a motherfucking window before.

But uh... I don't understand how people can get so mad over the game that they'd actually wish harm towards someone else. Like real, intentional, physical harm. not like telling someone you hope they get hit by a bus and their daughter gets violated by a bunch of grody black dudes.

griefing is a common activity of interest in MMOs and you either have what it takes to fight someone off or you don't. If you don't have the mental capacity to control yourself while you're away from the controller... Well, that's just sad.

Fair play to the guy. The little shit was probably camping in the corner with ghost and a suppressed AK74u.

I flew back to Saudi the other day to throttle a guy that stole my care package that had attack dogs in it.

Blops. It's serious business.

ahahahahaha, although I in no way condone what the guy did and I think it shows the immaturity of him more than the kid there's something about the though of a guy getting that angry over cod absolutely hilarious. Evidently some people really shouldn't be playing games if they get that worked up. I think it's more worrying personally that the guy himself is actually a father of 3.

I want to refer you to this article for the next time I kill you in a game Toshiya

Wow, seriously? A grown man assaulting a teenager over something so trivial. Clearly he is weak in the mind and therefore can't control his urges to resist violence. And the teenager bragging over killing someone on Call of Duty?

What is becoming of our future?:damon:
