[FF6] Levelling + stat maxing?

Where in this game are very decent places to get tonnes of exp/and or gil?
ANd how do u max out the stats of the characters in this game?

Right now I am in the part where u get the airship and fly to the empire. I'm levelling a bit.
In my party are celes, locke, edgar and Samin (don't know the exact name...)
2 are at lvl 20 and 2 are at 21.

cactars give 10 AP

there's a forest to the west of the veldt shaped like a t rex head. Its some tough enemies but the best exp in the game. I'd level up somewhere else first before I went there. Enter at your own risk.
