So, thread title is pretty much self-explanatory, 2011 was a good year for all kinds of music, and there must be some albums you thought out shined some others. If so, then list them here with a brief explanation on why.
Dream Theater, A Dramatic Turn of Events
Machine Head, Unto The Locust
Iced Earth. Dystopia
My Post-hardcore/metalcore list coming in my next post.
Dream Theater, A Dramatic Turn of Events
- This album proved to be especially great just because of what Dream Theater has acomplished within the album itself. Along with their new drummer, Mike Mangini - who did a fantastic job as their replacement - was able to fill in the shoes that Portnoy left open. I was a little skepital about the lyrical content and LaBrie's vocals as they weren't his best, but then I gave the album a few more listen throughs, and finally accepted that they achieved an inner-success that only they know how to do.
Machine Head, Unto The Locust
- Machine Head truly brought out all the stops on this album. Giving Thrash a bright new sound, and even better than The Blackening. This album is probably my favorite album from them, and hell, in the whole Thrash/Groove Metal scene. Combining their own uniquiness with a new flare really made Machine Head one of the big players once again.
Iced Earth. Dystopia
- With the new singer Stu Block filling in, I thought this was going to be disasterous, but it proved to be really good. The sound he has with the rest of the members of Iced Earth really brought out great sounds, and fantastic metal. If someone were to ask me what my favorite track off of the album was, I'd say it would be the album title track, "Dystopia". In my opinion, it really brings out the true nature of Stu's voice.
