I just started playing FFI and cus I picked it up second hand and I don't really know much about this game, so I've just got a few question I wanna ask.

You know with the black and white magic e.g Fire Lvl 1 and Cure Lvl 1. Would I be wasting my gil buying these because you just level up as you progress like the later games or is buying them the only way you get them?

Also, when my characters are KO'd I have no items to revive them and I can't afford Phoenix Down yet cus they're 500 gil, is there any other way to revive them?

Finally picking up items, will I be able to pick up items like potions, items, weapons and armour from chests and after battles or would I have to buy them also?

I think thats all I want to know for now, if theres anything else you think I should know then tell me! Thanks xxx

Magic does not level up on it's own like in VII, you have to actually buy the upgrades when they become available if you wish to use them. Most magic isn't actually that useful but I would suggest buying some of the basic ones to begin with for your Black and White Mages.

To revive characters, there is an unmarked building in each town called a 'Sanctuary'. These allow you to revive characters without the use of a Phoenix Down.

You will come across many Potions, weapons, armour and other items in dungeons. I suggest keeping up to date with the armouries but not to worry much about items. The only times I buy items is things like Antidotes and Gold Needles in bulk to get through particular dungeons. The first such dungeon would have to be the Marsh Cave where many enemies can poison and the location is to remote to keep going back and forward from Elfheim.

Magic, weapons and armour gets very expensive later (but quicky). Just buy what you think you need otherwise you'll find yourself fighting alot of uneccassary battles just to earn cash.

Hey thanks alot. That was really helpful. That leads me to my next question. Do antidotes clear all status ailments? Or would you need different items for different things like soft for petrification and echo screen for silence, etc..

Thanks again x

Antidotes clear poison and Gold Needles are for petrification. IMO the only status ailments you really have to worry about to be honest as the others very rarely come up or don't last long when they do. You'll find many curing items along the way but for those particular two it's always good to have a small stock to save MP from using the spell counterparts, especially seeing as they come up more often than others aswell.

Also just noticed your new. Welcome to the forums and enjoy your game :)

im playing FF 1 right now, i buy all the new armor, weapons, and spells i need in each town, i really don't mind to grind monsters for gil till i can afford everything, i only thing, i buy Item wise is Potions Antidotes, and sleeping bags tents and when im feeling rich cabins, i just hit L 13 with my Warrior, Thief, White mage, Black mage team, and i just got to Melmond, its the next town after Elfheim, and any other questions just shoot.

Oh, you're at *that* part. I won't spoil, but just a hint: get your self some Soft/Gold-needles in Elfland. You'll thank me later.
