So I'm at chapter 13 just breezing through and I finally get to that old guy(Bartandalus). So I kill him and then began battling his second form or whatever. I quickly found that I could defeat him easily with a few paradigm shifts here and there. Sadly I lost the battle, but not because of his massive HP draining attack where it falls on you, or the super status inflicting tail, But because that fucker cast doom on me as soon as I got his 6 million HP below one million :rage:. Now this was completely unfair as I now had a time limit of which to finish the battle and also, whatever I tried to do to get rid of the status didn't work. I am thoroughly pissed. Did this happen to anyone else? Is there a way to get around it?

This usually Happens to everyone.......and the reaction is usually the same.

Mind numbing stuff to be sure..........but if you keep the Battle under 20 minutes you should escape this stupid thing, You must cram like you have never crammed before!!

It does? That's common? :ness: That's such a horrible way to make up for a sucky boss. :sad3: Well next time I won't loose. I had no idea this happened to everyone mostly. I'll cram bigtime O.O

It's down to a time limit. You need to grind to get theCP. Inflicting Imperil helps a lot, because it makes him weak to all elements. Switch to a Synergist oriented Paradigm, with the Synergist(s) possessing Enfire, Enwater, Enfrost or Enthunder, so your Commandos can exploit his weakness too. Remember to build his stagger gauge quickly, because he uses Merciless Judgement at set times. He's also susceptible to Poison, so whack that on him if you can, but don't go out of your way to make it happen.

If you feel you are really close to defeating him when he casts doom, use a summon and it will delay the timer until it finishes.

I know how to beat him. I just need to stop wasting time and fix the paradigms I used most in the battle while recreating useless paradigms...:hmmm:

Good advice for a paradigm;
Make one with at least 2 healers.
It makes it so you only need to be in it for a good 10 seconds and you should have full health on everyone, then you can switch back to beating him down without waisting much of his stagger bar.

Yeah I do 3 healers :P It takes like seconds when you've got hope and lightning on your team. The third party person isn't a full healer but it still helps.

My main paradigms though was:

Com/com/syn
com/com/med
com/sab/med
med/med/med

I maxed everyone's main crystarium roles (the three roles they get from the beginning. So I should be good on battles and what not. I also have leveld up weapons. I just didn't know what I was doing at the first part of the battle. But now that I know I need to buckle down and stagger him and what not. During the whole battle I never staggered him because of it's Merciless Judgement move and The healing I was doing :/ I know better now...

I think I'll use Com/rav/rav and com/sen/rav paradigms next battle. :hmmm:

I have Light, Fang and Hope so...

I suggest starting with triple Sab with Hope, Light and Fang if you can. That or Syn/Syn/Sab in that same order. Make sure Light's gotten far along enough the Synergist path to learn Faith and Bravery and let Hope take care of the rest, then switch to triple Sab if you did't start that way and slap him with debuffs. Next, switch back to Syn so that the Imperil weaknesses can be exploited with Enfire.

COM/COM/RAV should be your offensive Paradigm for thirty seconds. It builds the stagger gauge, but doesn't let it empty too quickly. Next, switch to triple Rav or COM/RAV/RAV to build his stagger guage up.

MED/MED/SEN is a better healing paradigm because Fang can take some damage for the party while you heal, and draw Orphan's attacks to her so youa ren't interrupted..
