Okay...
I have a game save of Final Fantasy VII before I enter the Northern Crater... but I'm relatively unprepared and don't know how to fight Sephiroth.
Can anyone tell me some rough levels that I can beat him at, and some good leveling spots? (I find the monsters in the crater quite tough).

You should try training within the northern cave, especially on the lower levels there is alot of exp and Ap to be earned.

Right, some pretty tough monsters in the crater.
Besides, what level are you?
If you're 50-ish, train a bit more, though it's technically possible to beat Sephiroth within that range, I beat it once at 56.

i beat him at lv 46 and he was quite hard
If you train in the marshy area then you gain lvs quickly
Make sure you equip alot of hp pluses if you are below 50
Also if you have learned shadow flare from a dragon zombie or ultima weapon then use it. Make sure you have a few elixirs to restore the mp though

i defeated him about level 62 but went in the cave about level 45 :/ all you need is the ultimate weapons for your choson characters, some strong materia and the final limit breaks.

The northern cave is an excellent place to level up. and the final jenova form gives out a ridiculous amount of AP and EXP.

make ur way down the crater, use the save crystal somwhere just over half way( the part where u split into 2 teams is good)
then train around the save crystal using tents to restore ur health, ul level up pretty fast, also u should have a go at sephiroth to at least see what ur up against u never know u might beat him.

Uck, the battle can still be difficult at level 60+.
I once had to go all the way to level 70. =[
How embarrasing. =\

You have to have quick characters, and the more you level up, the better stamina they have. Sephiroth's last form is quick about casting spells on you.

I personally feel the battle with sephy should be MUCH harder. Any level greater than about 55 will have no trouble dispersing him, real disappoinment consdering is 3,000 HP+ damage attacks in the flashback.

I recommend leveling up at the Mideel forest. Equip your characters with the pre-emptive, exp-plus, gil-plus, slash-all, 2x or 4x cut materias, and give Cloud the slash-all materia, equip him with the Ultima Weapon, and sprint shoes, which basically makes all of the battles over in one turn. This is the fastest way to level up, because you don't have to fight the pain in the ass Tonberrys and kettle pot things that you would in the Crater. However, if you stay in the area with the kettle pots in the crater, you can level up materia faster because they give you more AP.

As for the fight itself, the ease will be determined by whether or not you have the Knights of the Round summon. If you have this, just use it once on the first incarnation of Sephiroth, instead of having to defeat every part of him, only to watch him revive the parts. One summon should own him, it did the job for me. As for the second reincarnation of Sephiroth, named "Safer Sephiroth" IIRC, well, there is nothing safe about him. You will need to equip everybody with ribbons, because whomever his Supernova attack doesn't kill, gets inflicted with a random assortment of every ailment in the game. You will want to make one of your characters a white mage, because his attacks are pretty powerful. If Cloud has the Ultima Weapon and 4x cut materia, this battle should be easy for a final boss battle. Well... my guys were at level 90, so if you go into this battle at 60-70 I'm sure it will be more of a challenge for you.

Good Luck :)

here is a glitch
if you have any elixers equip a character with w-item materia and keep selecting an elixer and then deselect after choosing one and you get a free elixer keep doing it til you have 99 and head in north crater and fight some magic pots give them an elixer and kill them and you get good ap for your materia
and when you are about level 60-70 go and fight sephiroth

what i did was train like mad getting loads of lvl like up to 70 then i took him on and i found it easier than having a lower lvl

what i did was get just before where you fight him then do a lot of training getting higher lvls on everone. then it still took me around 3 times to win

I agree! Good Luck too!

If you get a couple if good summons and the best limit breaks and weapons, Sephiroth should be a piece of cake. I just beat him around level 45 without having any of the best summons but I did have good limit breaks and weapons. The second time I used a guide and with Knights of the Round and Omnislash he was a piece of piss.

Also remedys are good to have to remove the status effects he puts on your characters.

Does no-one agree with me that Sephiroth should be harder? especially since is much stronger than in the Northern Cave battle in his flash back!
Please reply to this if anyone does agree.
