Square Enix producer Shinji Hashimoto delivered his promised update on a possible PSN release for Final Fantasy IX earlier today.

Hashimoto announced last week that he'd be bringing up a possible PSN release for Final Fantasy IX at an upcoming board meeting. That meeting took place today.

Following the meeting, Hashimoto updated the Square Enix Members Twitter with the following Tweet: "The presentation went well. The result will come on Friday. Everyone, please pray."

He appears to be referring specifically to Final Fantasy IX here, as in the following post he wrote "Fortunately for FF9, it's the 10th anniversary, so many of the board members approved."

In a later post, Hashimoto promised that if he's able to learn the result ahead of Friday, he'll provide an earlier update.

This is excellent news. They'd be crazy not to put IX on PSN since they already did with VII and VIII. Here's to hoping it gets put on and it being announced very soon!

Ooh. This is most encouraging, although, I don't really buy the "had-to-bring-it-up-in-a-meeting" line from him at all. In my opinion, it was always going to happen, but I suppose it's his way of trying to convince the fans that they have some power over decisions made :gasp:

Awesome news! They just have to go through with it. Perhaps not as much money as a FFVII remake would bring, but IX is a good place to start. Fingers crossed!

It seems like a way of increasing publicity before it's announced.
3 announcements generates more publicity than just one. I mean that says absolutely nothing of any value, it went well, etc etc it was the tenth anniversary.
He could of said nothing and we'd still know the same.

On a slightly different note, would it be possible for Ps2 games to put on PSN?

Oooooo this is exciting, if it got on PSN id definetly download it, I dont see what reason they wouldn't have to do it.
Looking forward to more updates:)

I'm still not convinced that the top executives of SE didn't have this on their agenda until now. It's common sense to everyone that after FFVII and FFVIII, the next logical step is FFIX. If not - it tells me a lot about SE's top staff then.

Cynicism aside - this is good news. At least they're on talks about getting it out. I already have a copy of FFIX on me and I've nearly completed it a second time. But who knows - I'll probably destroy my disk copy one day like I did with FFVIII. xD
