I just got back Final Fantasy IX a few weeks ago. I have been looking around on the internet for a strategy guide and have run into a problem. The Brady Games version of the FFIX strategy guide has sidenotes that refer to www.playonline.com when unfortunately this website now supports FFXI (FF11) instead. The piggyback version explains the information referred to in the Play Online sidenotes in the back of the book unlike the Brady Games version, but the Piggyback version is very hard to find. The piggyback version of the Final Fantasy IX strategy guide is on www.amazon.com but the price range is between $119.56-$999.98 which is WAY too expensive for a strategy guide. My question is, is there any way to find more copies of this strategy guide or has it become so rare that it is out of print? I am really looking forward to finally experiencing FFIX once I am done working on FFVIII.

I have the piggyback version and there's still a lot of stuff when it just says 'go to playonline' - it definitely doesn't have all of the notes in the back :hmmm:

I find that you can just use the guide, and find whatever isn't in the guide online pretty easily from cheat websites :dave:

Thank God I have a spare, but WTF!

I have the original hardback one.

However if you want to "experience" the game you should play it through without the guide first, heading into every section not knowing anything makes for a more impresive experience in my... experience.

Of course what you choose to do is entirely up to you, but I like to avoid guides until at least the second run.

Also, IX is a great game, enjoy it :D

You can always look up an unofficial faq/walkthrough. They ironically tend to be more helpful and straight-foward then any 'official' one. I don't need one though// I AM a FFIX walkthrough :)

I usually try to stay away from GameFAQs unless I am working on a REALLY old game, for example Metal Gear on an MSX emu. The reason why I use strategy guides is so that I can get everything there is to get in the game, because most likely once I beat it it will end up in the closet never to be touched again.

I have the piggyback one and it really isn't worth THAT kind of money as other people have said it only really guides you through the story, the secret stuff you wanna know is all playonline, and I saw a copy of this guide a couple of months ago in a game shop by mine for like £12 not sure what that would be in dollars. Didn't realise they were so sought after.

Just wondering, why did you have two?

Honestly I didn't even know that there was a Piggyback guide for this game, I thought the Brady Games version was it. So I did some google searching and found the piggyback website, and the to my surprise their prices are relatively cheap. The FFIX guide is only 12.95 pounds, not sure what that would convert to in dollars but that is not bad. Even if it doesn't have all the extra information, anything is better than have a guide that gives you half assed boss strategies. Here is the link for those who want to check it out for themselves.

When I played through it I used the BradyGames guide as well and the PlayOnline site was down at that time. Honestly though, it's not a big loss. There's nothing you can't find by just going through the game or by going to a place like GameFaqs or asking around here at the site on the forums.

Sure you may not want to miss something that you otherwise might have passed by, but if you find a steady guide on GameFaqs, you should be fine. FFIX doesn't have much miss-able items/spells as long as you get almost every armor/weapon and accessory you can in the game from shops.
