Alright, so this question just came to me a minute ago when I was discussing the game with a friend. Everyone loves the Judges from Final Fantasy XII... but they're far from the most important characters in the game. And I know that we have some judge whores on this site (JR :P) but they weren't all that great. They were really really cool and I think they helped make the game... but they certainly weren't anything more than support characters. So why then is Gabranth the only thing on the logo? He is the logo. No one else. And honestly... not that important to the plot. The only other character he effects is Basch. So why put him on the cover of the game?

Meh, it's just a logo. Deal with it. Haha. :P But well, you do kinda have a point there.

Hmm, I don't know, maybe because the Judges were cool-looking and interesting than anything compared in the game? Granted, Gabranth is one of the main judges, so why not put him there? But then again, it's not like he made a super-duper effect in the game either. I'm thinking that Ashe should've been in the logo, but then again I really don't know because it might not be as fitting, visually.

Good point I never thought about it. Now looking at it though whats up with the paint ball splatter?? The whole Logo really doesn't fit the game. They should have had a couple of airships, a judge or 2, and Vaan and Ashe chillin in the corner or something. Might be because it just looks cool. Or maybe its because it was orignially released in Japan and they where trying to apeal to the old samuri warrior looking style?:woot:

Well Japanese logos are always much more tame than American or International ones... In fact 1Up has a wonderful article on the whole thing here. That's definitely worth a read by the way...

But even so, they always focus the logo around the main character... or a major event. We even had a FF logo comparison topic a while ago. lol Probably another one of Aeris's lol It was very good though.

But like... why? Why would the logo feature Gabranth?

Nope Rydia made the other FF logo comparison topic i believe :P although i did post in it several times :P

And maybe the chose Gabranth to be on the logo because it is a very iconic image? the judges just have a something that screams "LOOK AT ME" - there awesomly designed and are something which really stands out in the game.

*is a little bit of a judge whore*

Looks more like a brush stroke to me

Anyway, I've pondered this many times and I can only come to one conclusion: because Gabranth is by far the COOLIEST looking character on the game ^_^ if SE used any other character, I don't think it wouldn't have fitted.

Perhaps it's to show a dark side to the game? Besides, not all the FF logos can be the same, right? I actually like the logo and to be fair, logos don't bother me much. But this one? Really grabbed my attention.

I like it. It's who I initially thought the main villains were in the game way before ti was released anywhere. I figured that the judges would each be bosses you'd face here and there throughout the game, and one of the biggest and baddest would be the Final Boss with some wrench thrown into the equation. Not far off.

may not be viewed as majorly important, but they do affect what goes on in the controlled nations. For those of you fellow Americans out there, or those who know anything about American government, our system of checks and balances is the same way. Our Judicial branch (Supreme Court) has far more power it seems than the Executive (President), and the Legislative (Congress) branches. I'm not saying Squenix was mimicing our methods, but you can apply it to things that take place in the real world today.

Yeah, the judge looks cool on the cover. I really don't think anything else would be more fitting in all honesty. A piece of Nethocite? Meh, FFIX's logo had a rock on it, a judge is different. The judge represents the battle of corruption that the main characters have to fight against in order to restore the calmness and equal justice from before.

Good Point.

Actually, I was shocked not to see Ashe somewhere in the logo, being that she was one of the most important elements to the story. I think it would have been cool with her in the background holding the Sword of Kings (I think that was the name of it?). Anyway, it still a cool logo.

believe me, squareenix just put this guy in the logo because he looks pretty cool (market hook and stuff ). I can also say that this one is the only cool looking character for a logo that is THE reason because the history of final fantasy 12 occurs this way.
It could be dr. Cid, or Ashe, but they`re not cool looking for a logo.

could say a lot of things, but I guess that squareenix just put this guy because he was cool for a logo, that's all.

Honestly that's kind of what I'm thinking, as sad as that is. Busta I really don't agree that he's there to represent anything. Vayne or one of the Occuria would have made a lot more sense than that... and the Great Crystal or the Sun Cryst would have been fitting but FFIX did have a similar design. Even so, you could have picked a bunch of different creatures or people that would have been much more fitting that Gabranth.

i think that for Each FF game logo they choose the coolest looking thing - FFVI VII and IX are great examples of this -

Terra in the magitek armour isnt that important yet is still cool enough to get to be the logo
VII - i think we decicded that Aeris should have been the logo - but meteor looks so much more cooler as a logo
FFIX - the crystal wasnt even important till the very end - unless it was the falcon claw - but if im not mistaken it was the crystal at the very end used as the logo.

so yeah i stand by the "Coolest-thing = logo" theory XD

When I first saw the logo, I though it was a gundam like machine. And I was like "oh no! FF did not just put mecha into their games!"

I am happy to know that that is not what it is. Haven't played enough of the game to see it's significance.

Lots of final fantasies have had mechs, as for the cover, gabranth looks cool to someone who hasn't played the game, but hes pretty much insignificant, he doesn't serve much of a purpose in the way of story or anything, Ive noticed that with seven on they've used that weird paint effect on there logos. Sevens meteor made sence, and it looked cool. Eights was just something from the game recolored, and nines was completely insignificant, and tens followed in the same footsteps as eight. I think gabranth looks cool, I dont mind him at all even if it doenst make sence.

No not mecha. Mecha are big giant robots that people ride in and they shoot missles, or bullets, or lazers. Think power rangers when they all conbine. ;)

Well, I think he more meant he thought it was going to be a mecha game, but regardless, there still have been stuff like mecha in the games(the red robot thig at the end of seven?) that are kinda power rangers like.......not that I would even know what that is or anything:rolleyes:

I don't see any problem with having just Gabranth as the logo although seems like a strange choice. I know he is the main Judge in the game but maybe they should have chosen a logo more intrical to the story.

I think Gabranth is a more pivotal character than Vaan. In fact I think the only main characters that could have been used would have been Basche, Ashe or Vayne.

Mind you, look at some logos from the other games. FFIX was weak and X-2.

I like the XII one, it's a little different and original, a nice sendoff for the PS2 FF releases.

What?

Alright, Vayne being on the cover would have been really retarded. You simply don't see enough of him in the game. You can't compare Gabranth to Vaan either. One's a main party member, the other is a reoccurring miniboss for a few battles,
turned good at the end
. If anything should have been on this cover, it should have been the Sun-Cryst, or an airship. As gay as it may sound, airships had more impact at certain points in the game as opposed to Vayne. he was a good villain, he just needed to appear more often for me to really hate him. I think he would have made more of an impact if you got a glimpse of him every few hours instead of just...4 times in the entire game.
