Numerous short features on various topics of interest are shown daily on Japanese Television. But its not everyday, you get to see a feature involving game development.
I know the video is in Japanese, but with my limited understanding of Nihongo, I can perhaps, shed some light on some of the important points in the video.
0:43 - narrator introduces the location as the production facility where FF 13 was made (Square Enix office?)
0:56 - Sorry I couldn't read Kanji, so I didn't catch the names of the two people who were introduced. But one of their names was thrown out when one of the hosts were pointing out the scribble on the white board.
1:18 - The CG artist displays a model of Kurt Cob.. I mean...Snow using a 3D software called Autodesk Softimage (which is open in his 2 right monitors). Photoshop is open in the 2nd monitor from the left, showing the partial texture maps of Snow's head.
2:00 - He further explains to the hosts that they are using a type of texture called normal maps to generate detail and depth for the model's real time display. (Personally, I was a bit impressed to how high the polygon count is on Snow's face. In game models they used in Dissidia and Crisis Core were not as detailed).
3:20 - He explains the use of a custom slider parameter set which controls shape animation, which in this case controls Snow's facial Animation. (Capcom used this same method for facial control as shown in the making of Resident Evil 4... I'm not sure if they used it for 5 tho.)
Just an additional note, in this part of the vid, you hear them say A - I - U - E - O, because this is the order of the basic Japanese vowels. (In contrast to ours, which is A E I O U).
On another note, if you noticed that flat thing behind Snow's head, its actually the tie ends of his bandanna. Apparently, they would give it some cloth simulation instead of going through the trouble of adding a set up and animating it manually.
Also, each time you hear them say "sugoi" it means "wow/awesome".
By the way, The chick with the glasses is hot. ^^
