Part of Square Enix USA’s marketing strategy for Final Fantasy XIII is “prominent exposure” during the 2010 NBA All-Star Celebrity Game.

Final Fantasy XIII will be featured on the court and on ESPN, which is broadcasting the game on network TV this Friday. Fans of basketball and transforming hot rod cars can play demo the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 version of Final Fantasy XIII at the show.

What does the NBA have to say about the partnership? “Final Fantasy is a storied brand in the videogame category and this partnership will bring an exciting new element to this year’s NBA All-Star Celebrity Game,” said Mark Tatum, NBA Executive Vice President of Marketing Partnerships. “A good portion of our fanbase overlaps with the young, videogame-playing audience, so it is a natural fit for us to partner with a leading franchise like Final Fantasy around one of our marquee All-Star events.”

Sega tried a similar partnership this year with Bayonetta where the game presented Ultimate Fighting Championship 108. Wonder if the extra exposure truly broadens the audience and leads to more sales or not.

I will say that it's quite interesting to hear about this partnership/deal that they have made and tbh, I haven't even heard of it until now. Though, wouldn't it make more sense to partner up with idunno a basketball videogame? I mean it's a videogame AND has basketball which is what NBA is. But, still an interesting read thanks ari :awesome:

This isn't new. I've worked at a few stadiums, and there are PlayStation 3 consoles set up for random people to go up to and play on. I've seen Metal Gear Solid 4, Jak and Daxter and Little Big Planet so far. So I'm guessing the set-up will be similar.

I'd love to see an FFXIII demo at the places I'd work though >_<

You'd end up playing that more than doing your job :8F:

I'm not really surprised though, I don't really know how popular NBA is but there's huge potential to reach a large varying audience through that sort of advertising. I'd like to see the figures of how many played it at an NFL match mind.
