Total Final Fantasy XIII sales have hit 1.2 million units across the Americas and Other Regions, taking the worldwide total to over 3 million when including the PS3 launch in Japan late last year.

Worldwide, 61% of units sold were on PS3 and 39% on Xbox 360 - Microsoft's console actually increasing in share from launch day to the full week. As mentioned in last week's pre-order data, VGChartz expects sales to be far more even between consoles following initial launch as casual consumers are likely to buy the game roughly in the ratio of hardware install base whereas the core Final Fantasy fans who pick the game up in week one (and day one in particular) will have more of a Playstation bias as the Final Fantasy series is more synonymous with the Sony brand.

Breaking down by region, over 680,000 units were sold in the Americas with 57% on PS3 and over 520,000 in Other Regions (Europe, Asia, Middle East, Africa, Oceania) with 66% on PS3.

Well this is great news. It is selling well and I hope it continues to. So SE wants an Final Fantasy XIII-2 to happen but they wanted the sales to be really good. Well here it is but this is only the first week. I still think they should stop putting ideas in their heads and just get Versus and Agito going for the most part!

That's quite a lot so far - not that I'm really surprised. A new proper FF installment was always going to sell well at the beginning with the hype FFXIII has had. Seeing FFXIII at the number 1 position this week in the multiformat chart in the UK was certainly the one surprise I had. I didn't think it would do that well. I guess the advertisement machine must be working hard.

So SE - it has sold well so far. FFXIII-2 on the horizon yet for you guys? I'd rather wish that you don't bother with a sequel, go finish off Versus and get yourselves over to FFXV.

I'm actually surprised that the 360 version had a decent fraction of sales. I assumed the PS3 number would be similar to the Japanese sales with the 360 version added on top, so I was expecting a bigger number, but still, pretty large. It's only the first week, so I'm sure the number will climb higher. I mean, stores kept selling out of the PS3 version, so that says something.

Well, i'd expect this from a FF tittle considering Final Fantasy series seems to be quite popular.

Not too shabby SE XD and this is only the first week. I mean there are those that'll wait for the price to drop and/or it might be sold out and whatnot though, the first week tends to be the highest selling point anyways. :hmmm:

I'm quite surprised by the 36o percentage as well but, I guess it's safe ta say SE did the right thing by putting it also on the Xbox as well.

That was my inital thought on the different consoles. Seems legitimate to me, but we'll have to wait and see how it turns out.

Not surprised by the number- it's Final Fantasy after all. The 360 percentage did surprise me a bit. I expected them to be low compared to the PS3, but not that close.

Maybe...Final Fantasy Versus XIII is Square Enix's last chance. For a game that's taken 5 years to develop and probably a hell of a lot of money, 1.2 millions seems...poor.

Final Fantasy XIII is released on both consoles (roughly 65 million) in the west and sells 1.2 million.
Final Fantasy XIII is released on the PS3 ONLY (roughly 4.5 million) in Japan alone and sells roughly 1.8 million.

I suppose you could argue that it will sell more in its home country but still, Japan outsold the West in first week sales and has 62 million less consoles. The problem is, will it sell much more? How many more people will be interested in Final Fantasy XIII when Versus is release? Mind, I was taken back by how much the 360 sold in terms of percentage in the West, although worldwide I think it came up to something like 15%.

It makes me cringe to say it, but in terms of financial gain, Final Fantasy VII may be the way to go.
