i know (at least) a few folk on this site who like fleetwood mac though it seems to just be the considerably more poppy stevie nicks and lindsey buckingham 'mac that these folk know. while i do like quite a few songs from that line up i much prefer the original fleetwood mac (peter green's fleetwood mac). ive grown to appreciate the blues, especially as far as guitar is concerned and i think peter green was fantastic. the original 'mac released (mainly) blues albums (hardly surprising since 3 of the original fleetwood mac had previously played in the bluesbreakers) so i spose most young(er) british people wouldnt have heard most of their stuff. also with blues being a genre that was typically seen as "black" and "american" a white english band playing mightve been poo pood, i dunno.

largely overshadowed by carlos santana's version, though i much prefer this one

and then the marks and spencers advert music :wacky: i'd say its pretty well known, and it does sound fantastic, just not something i could really sit and listen to all day :wacky:

just a few tunes for those who are interested ie if you like fleetwood mac but dont know the original lineup or youre looking at my thread.:mokken:

Man of the World and Albatross are great tunes, Albatross even hit #1 in the UK, which surprised me since it's an instrumental song. Black Magic woman is a great song too, although I haven't heard the Santana version :hmmm: Peter Green's "Oh, Well" is a fairly epic tune too. He's a really great guitarist, and it's a shame the original line-up only lasted three years, they were a pretty epic blues band :gasp:

hahaha, trust you to be the first to post :wacky:

yeah they were pretty epic, its just a shame he couldnt handle the fame and fortune and an even bigger shame he's left in the state he is. he came to aberdeen a few months ago now i think, i wouldve liked to have seen him live but i only caught wind of it the day before his gig so i missed it. was in a fairly intimate venue so they dont advertise as much :sad3:

he is...well was a great guitarist and the fact that he replaced clapton in the bluesbreakers and managed to pull it off says a lot (i know some people dont think much of clapton, but imo his talent is clear, he's been around for so many years, he has the following and he can still bloody play, though he admits hes not as good as he used to be).

drugs and the general pressure of being someone other than regular jimmy blue i spose. its caught a lot of people out, its a shame most of them arent around to tell the tale :lew:

Well, I do like the band just a smidge :wacky:

It's pretty amazing how integral to one band's sound one person can be, when Buckingham and Nicks joined the sound was a million miles away from the original Peter Green sound, it's almost two totally different bands.

Although, Peter Green did perform on one of their songs on the Tusk album, which also featured George Harrison on another track (although both of them were uncredited), called Brown Eyes, which is really cool because it blends both eras together in a way. I'm trying to find a video to post, but youtube is failing me :rage:

It's sorta sad considering how many of them took drugs what happened to Peter Green, the man was brilliant, but LSD does some crazy shit to you.

it was the done thing, and i spose it still is. i mean, the likes of paul mccartney might walk around with his nose up his own arse like he's something other than the sprog of a working class scouser family, but he was probably out his tits in the majority of the beatle's visits to the studio. everyone did it. drink or drugs caught most of them at some point, keith richards, who seems to be immortal :lew:, eric clapton and his cocaine (not the song :wacky: though it is fucking ace) and then his alcoholism, jimi hendrix, janis joplin, jim morrison no doubt countless others.

it is a shame, they just die, but peter green, well he's left in such a state. ive watched some of his more recent live stuff on youtube and he just cant play it (or sing it) himself. tis a shame but if you mess with that stuff and get in too deep, you pay the price i guess :hmmm:

Peter Green is without a doubt the finest British blues player there ever was. Fleetwood Mac was very much his band and they certainly sounded very different without him. It's a shame that he was out of the music industry for so long, but the stuff he put out as the Peter Green Splinter Group definitely shows that he's still got it. The Fleetwood Mac that came after his departure from the band never really did much for me. To each their own I guess.

I actually grew up listening to Fleetwood Mac. My mom used to play their music in the house nearly every day, and now they are one of my favourite bands of all time. My most favourite songs are:
Gold Dust Woman
Big Love
Landslide
Gypsy
Rhiannon
(I prefer the Buckingham/Nicks lineup as you can tell!) :)

^^hehe me too! I have their greatest hits album and some of my favorites are:
Dreams
Gypsy
Black Magic Woman
You make lovin Fun
Rhiannon
And a few more

An amazing band :P
