Just the other day I was thinking about some of the great games that I played when growing up, and how many of those old franchises haven't seen a new installment in a long time. Some of these old games I truly miss and really think have what it takes to foster a decent sequel in this day and age, so I thought I'd make this thread and ask everyone what old games you'd like to see a modern day sequel to?

Personally I was a HUGE fan of the Double Dragon games back in the day, and I think that a new Double Dragon for PS3 or Xbox 360 with a solid multiplayer function would be awesome.

Another game I'd like to see a new installment of is the Carmageddon series. I loved the visceral sense of humour in this game, and I think that with how graphics have progressed since Carmageddon 2, today the game could be taken to a whole new level of fun and gore. Imagine smashing into an old lady, driving 200 kilometres pr hour and have her splatter all over your windscreen in full HD! That would be awesome

I'm not sure if this qualifies as a "revival" but I would like to see the old-school style of Sonic The Hedgehog games come back to life. With all this racing and junk Sonic is doing now I miss his blueness doing some Dr. Robotnic beatdowns like the old days. Please o(*.*)o

If I could get Chrono Break, I would die a happy man.

Sadly squeenix doesn't realize how much weight the chrono name carries. The DS release's sales apparently weren't good enough for them despite the fact it sold almost a million despite being a glorified port of a 15 year old game (And that million is much more than any of the FF ports or remakes outside of FFIII DS).

A new Chrono game would be great! Another Square game I'd really like to see a sequel to is Vagrant Story. Or some sort of spiritual sequel by Matsuno to be more exact. With Matsuno no longer working for Square, I dare not hope for an actual sequel.

Agree with the Matsuno thing; FF: Tactics, FFXII, Vagrant Story - as far as I'm concerned the guy had a Midas touch, shame he won't be working with SE again.

The one I want to see a revival of: TURRICAN! There were murmurings of the series seeing a revival sometime ago but I literally haven't heard anything about it in 2 or so years.

Failing that, SNK randomly reviving Garou or Last Blade would be nice.

I would love to see the Xenosaga series revived into 3 more episodes because they really need to finish it! We do not even know if Sellers is dead. Scientia still lives and we don't know what mysteries await. Im a hardcore Xenosaga fan and its my Second favorite game in the world. Lost Jerusalum is a big mystery!

Id like to see something done with Legend of Legaia. The first game was amazing and I couldnt fault it. The second one wasnt as good imo. Plus Vagrant Story remake perhaps :)

Here is my list of games that I want it to be remade:

Vagrant Story - A great RPG published by Squaresoft. It was released in March 15, 2000 for the Playstation. This game is unique as a console action/adventure role-playing game because it features no shops and no player interaction with other characters; instead, the game focuses on weapon creation and modification, as well as elements of puzzle-solving and strategy.

Chrono Trigger - Another great RPG from Squaresoft. Chrono Trigger was first released on March 11, 1995 for the Super Nintendo. Then, it was released for the Playstation in 1999 and for the Nintendo DS on November 25, 2008. This game has multiple endings, a unique battle system, plot-related sidequest and detailed graphics. It is consider as one of the greatest game of all times.

The Legend of Dragoon - Developed and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the Playstation. This game has a great battle system which crossed a new boundary within turn based combat games. Many fans love playing this game do to its great story, battle system and 3D graphics.

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver - A Action-Adventure game developed by Crystal Dynamics and published by Eidos. This game was released on August 16, 1999 for the Playstation. It’s hack and slash system allows you to do combinations of various attacks before a finishing move, which I think is a great system. This game is not as popular as the previous games that I posted but I think it is still a good game for a remake.

Killer Instinct - Developed by Rare and published by Midway and Nintendo. This fighting was one of the greatest fighting game in the 90’s. This fast paced fighting game has unique characters and has tons of action. Fans will love to see a comeback of this great fighting game.

I'd really like to see the Breath of Fire series revived. I played I-IV and loved them, especially Breath of Fire II. I'd also like to see the Xenosaga series finished, I still doubt I'd like the completed series as much as it's predecessor Xenogears, but it's definitely something I'd want to experience just the same.

The Chrono series is another already mentioned series I'd like to see revived. I've played Chrono Trigger, Radical Dreamers, and Chrono Cross, and I still want to play more.

Grandia would be pretty cool to see revived, I haven't played the third one, but I played the first and second and I've got to say, the first one was just plain awesome.

And finally, I'd like to see Final Fantasy make a comeback. I know it's still a sucessful franchise in terms of how much money it pumps out, but IMO the quality of FF games has hit an all time low. >_>

Franchises like Grandia and Xenosaga aren't really dead though. There already is a new Grandia game in the works and the latest Xenosaga game came out only 3 years ago. Come on people, this thread is called "Franchise REVIVAL".

Not "Oh my goodness, it's been 2 years since the last game in the series, they better start making a sequel asap" :P

Xenosaga IS dead though. It's official, they're not going to go any further. They plan to leave it as it is: incomplete.

And I wasn't aware of the new Grandia game in the works, thanks for the info.

I agree with Chrono, FFT, BoF & Vagrant Story.

I add...

Mother (/Earthbound) - Ninny is pissing away a gold mine.
Seiken Densetsu - This one needs a reboot bad. Go back to the action/adventure roots that made it great.
Live-a-Live - Not a franchise on its own, but deserving none-the-less. Should also get a port/remake since it was a great game that would have worked well (or at least better?) outside of Japan.
Lufia - So far it's batting 3 for 4 and that is pretty freakin sweet for an RPG series spanning 3 consoles. Who's go the rights to this series now anyway??
Lunar - Something needs to make up for Dragon's Song.
MegaMan Soccer - Just cause & it's like one of Capcom's only games that DOESN'T have a sequel.
Battle Toads - Anything TMNT can do...
Space Harrier - They don't make shmups like this anymore but they should.
Smash TV - Same reason as Space Harrier.
Strider - If Ryu Hayabusa can be awesome and updated, so can Strider Hiryu (in more than just a couple of Capcom's VS games).
River City Ransom - If you think about a beat 'em up like Double Dragon, you might as well go with the better game.
Rampage - Destroying cities and eating humans could be totally awesome in nice enough 3D...wait, would this be too much like Destroy All Humans? Nah, giant monsters are way cooler than aliens!
ClayFighter - The fighting genre needs a little light-heartening every so often and this is the series that can do it (as long as they get someone good to actually design the gameplay).
NBA Jam - Like fighting games, sports games don't have to take themselves too seriously either. Lots of great unlockables...Who wouldn't want to play a little 2-on-2 as the Clintons again? Put 'em up against the Obamas maybe. With Big Head Mode, of course.

I would love to see a new installment of PilotWings. Although I haven't played the originals, I really want to and a new generation one would be brilliant. A remake of Comix Zone would be awesome as well.
