Summary: Sousuke Sagara is a professional soldier, practically born and bred on the battlefield. A military specialist for the secret organization MITHRIL, he has just been given perhaps his most challenging assignment yet.
Why's it so challenging? Because it's not a combat mission. For the battle-hardened Sagara, he now has to become accustomed to a new, alien environment... high school. Assigned to watch over and protect Kaname Chidori, a "Whispered" candidate for MITHRIL, Sousuke must ensure her safety and well being, fend off the enemies of his past, and try to do something he never had to do before: live the life of an ordinary teenager.
The anime/manga is originally a novel series that still seems to go on continuing the story line. In the anime, they only had three seasons, which is Full Metal Panic, Full Metal Panic FUMOFFU?, and Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid. The novels still continues on.
Personally, I find this series hilarious (I shall blame my boyfriend for getting me into it in the first place), though it does have it serious moments. I mean, with Sousuke around, it's like throwing common sense out of the window! And Kaname, because of Sousuke's antics, has the most violent temper I've ever seen and proceeds to beat up Sousuke because of what he does (AKA blowing up stuff and going high maintenance for safety precautions, threatening people when Kaname is concerned, just causing general chaos in the school)!
And a Whispered is an unusually gifted person who holds the intelligence of what is called Black Technology. Black Technology is a general term used to describe fictional technology in FMP. new sources of Black Technology is certain to change the military balance of the world, and is thus heavily sought after by several groups. The origins of Black Technology are a tightly kept secret, thus most of the world is unaware of the difference of Black Technology to that of a conventionally developed one. Most of the advances of Black Technology seem to be in the fields of Electrical Engineering and Material Science.
Even though I've yet to complete the manga collection (also started to collect Full Metal Panic: Overload which, one of my guy friends told me, is more hilarious than FUMOFFU), I cherish this series very much.
