For me, I think I do work with a theme in mind when I open up photoshop and start making a signature. Whether it be a specific colour theme, or something that's tied to the character/person is what I enjoy doing.
I think what I do have trouble with still, even though it's gotten easier are anime themes, and stock images, real people are also not an actual personal favourite.

but once i lock my attention on the theme i feel much more satisfied with my work. i love space themes or black and white themes. they're my favorite to do.
