Ghost in the Shell: Arise is a recreation of Masamune Shirow's Ghost in the Shell. This takes place before the Stand Alone Complex series and isn't connected to the movies, manga, or series. It will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on July 26 in Japan. This will hopefully have subtitles.

lol I saw this a few months ago and was pleasantly surprised. This is one of my favorite anime series, I just hope it lives up to the first two series. :x3:

Since it takes place before the other two it might focus more on WW3 and how the Major, and the rest of section 9 were involved with it. >.> The art direction will take some getting used to though.

Actually, it takes place before all the series. Manga/film take place in 2029 and stand alone complex takes place I 2030 assuming the major never meeting the puppeteer. Still, this is a prequel series in general, so it seems like a possible past.
Im not excited at all. Itll be 4feature film series, but its basically explaining something that isnt necessarily relevant to gits.

Also ww3 seems odd. What happened to ww4? The situation is just too off. This is a completely separate canon from any series.

ghost in the shell was on netflix, but I never got a chance to watch it, tyhis looks intresting, and as it set before the other series, it might be worth giving this a watch

I am not pleased at all with this; I would have much preferred it if they'd made a proper sequel or prequel series, or even just a mini OVA, rather than movies which will take forever to come out. This tendency to make movies instead of series that they've got going on in Japan right now is annoying the hell out of me; the gap between the release dates is obscene. I expect these will be good films - although I do worry for the show's continuity - but I'm not looking forward to the time gap at all. I'm curious to see what they're going to do with the characters though; Ghost in the Shell was my "official" introduction to anime (i.e. it was the first anime I saw knowing what it was; I didn't find out that Sailor Moon etc. was anime too until afterwards) and I'm very fond of the two gigs of Stand Alone Complex. I expect a similar depth of story in these.

On a side note, I will probably watch these subbed. The dub for Stand Alone Complex was fantastic, but they utterly ruined the compilation movies by changing the voice actors. Unless they miraculously use the old VAs (which I doubt) I will not be watching the dub.

They change the VAs in japan, why keep the same ones for english? I love gits, but this prequel series is just too much. I wont be able to keep up with it unless its streamed online which it wont. The plot doesnt really grab my attention, and why should it? Its a prequel, just showing what began the bigger story.

I was hoping for a sequel closer to the lines of gits 2: man-machine interface
