I'd have to say Zodiark, with Ultima a VERY close second. The fight with Ultima wasn't too hard, but finding her was an absolute BITCH and that counts towards the annoyance - I was on the edge on insanity trying to navigate that damn crystal - then could I get out afterwards? Could I fuck. I was so gratful for that save point you get before her, other wise I reckon she would of been top of the list

Now, onto Zodiarl, the nob. I fight my way through the mines (some very challenging enemies in there) raid every chest and having a good old explore - get to Zodiark, fighting away thinking, yeah this isn't to bad really......then we get 'immune to physical damage' Ohhhh not that old chestnut, and he uses reflect aswel - total change of tactics - Im using reflect and bouncing scathe off inbetween dying alot, accidentally killing myself a few times when Ive not had reflect etc, then I get the mofo down to 1 mm of health, my main party dies and my reserves die before I can even revive my main....ugh

So I had to do the whole sorry proces again, and beat the fucker thais time, changed my tactics a tad, didnt bother with reflecting my guys, I just made sure he was constantly dispelled (fucked up once or twice) and just scathed him til he was dead. Was easier said than done But I did it

So, Zodiark was the hardest esper to obtain for me -_-

On a basis of the shit you have to do, I'll say Chaos. The sidequest for the medallions was the most boring dragged out tiresome sidequest EVER. Gave up with it in the end.

I forgot about that one, I dont think you can use the attack command, so that was a bit of a bugger.....I had to wait til I got telekenisis befoer I could actually kill him, I was trying in vain to take him down with 1000 needles which was taking forever, I died and gave up in the end

Dunno why I didnt use magic, tosser was probably immune to it or some shit, that and I hate using magic....it means I have to piss about with my gambit set up >>

Not to mention how easy it is to overload when you use magicks, so end up having to wait for ages for one spell to actually be cast. :|

That is just plain annoying.

Cuchaliann(sp) was annoying aswell. Tried fighting him while being under-levelled. Automatic HP droppage and then he decides to cast Sap and Poison aswell. Then you have a bunch of Flans dropping down giving you a slap aswell.

Went back a raped the fat bitch later though.

Zodiark simlpy cuz he can kill all your party pretty easily with Darkja. Not to mention traversing through the secret areas of Henne can be frustrating as well.

Ultima. The way the battle changes constantly. Cuchaliann was annoying as well with him casting all status effects on you and he had a high defence as well.

Zodiark for me as well Mischief. Like I stated in the topic about him, the path leading to Zodiark was just brutal if your characters were not well prepared for it. I took beating after beating, tried fleeing, and swapping out fully healed characters for ones who were 3/4ths dead.

As for second hardest, I'd go with Exodus. his Scathe had me running around the screen trying to avoid it at all costs. All of the boss fights were extremely awesome for obtaining them. I just wish they were more useful in battles.

I thought that Ultima was really easy, mostly due to my Holy-absorbing equipment.

The most difficult Esper battle was probably Cúchulainn. I now know to equip Battle Boots and prevent Disable but, before that, I had no idea what was awaiting me. Even with the Battle Boots, the HP Sap and infinite monster spawns makes this a really irritating fight at any level.

I'd have said Zodiark but I've yet to lose against him...it's the mines in general that kill me, for the same reasons as posted above.

I thought that chaos was quite hard because most of my party was based on regular attacks as opposed to magic so it took me a good 30 minutes to kill it, even with taht i got it down to like 10% and it spammed aeroja over and over which drained my mp cuz of curaja. Ended up actually using mist for the first time in ages.

Isn't it obviously Zodiark? He is the king of the espers after all. I still have yet to obtain him in FFXII, I really lost interest and just wanted to complete the main storyline after picking up a few espers if they were in the area.

My Favorite Esper is still Addremlech(sp?) A huge flying dragon, what's not to like?

Addramelech isn't exactly a dragon. And he's not very physical at all, he's kind of a magical attacker. If you like Addramelech, you should definitely go and get Chaos from that broken building in the deadlands with all the locked doors. I forget how to unlock the doors, look at a FAQ or something.

Chaos is alot like Addramelech, only he has a lot more powerful magic.

Watch out when fighting him though, some of your commands are dissabled or some shit, i remember having to use like throw to kill him an shit lol.

It's a hands down to Ultima. I don't care how tough any of those summons are, no summon compares to the challenge of navigating the great crystal. That zodiac path through that crystal maze is redunkulous.

Honestly, I feel like none of the Espers are necessary at all. After letting my team go to work on skelatons in the deadlands for a few hours while I go do something else, checkin up on it from time to time, having all six of my characters on 99, easily stomping anyone, having all the espers and not any of them were worth bringing out to put my other two characters away.

But yeah, hardest to obtain, PERIOD - Ultima

Ultima is a total faff to get to, but the actual battle wasn't too bad.

Zodiark was a total Nazi. I died countless times on the way there. Especially getting lost on the map that disappears so you get lost if you're running away from fights like me! Then when you get in you hack away quickly, then he stops you attacking him physically, then magic! Then he kills me. Repeat about 10 times before spawning it!

Never been so happy to finish something off.

Now that Yaizmat...

Zodiark for me, Ultima was a pain to find but the actual fight wasn't too difficult. Zodiark was both a pain to reach and a MASSIVE pain to fight.

I remember that battle being dragged out for ages

Who was your hardest esper to obtain?

Mine was Chaos. The constant bombardment of Aerora brought my team's HP down by over 2k health a hit. Being slowed down wasn't helping much either, and with his mini elemental dudes raping me with spells made the fight a whole lot harder. I ended up having to start from the save crystal from before the Necrohol enterance in Nabreus Deadlands.

Hmmm, i beat Chaos with ease. But i think Zodiark was the hardest to get for me. When i finally got to him, all my characters were nearly dead with no mp

I didn't bother going after Ultima and Zodiark, but I did get all the other Espers. I don't really remember which one gave me a hard time....*thinks*...it was Zeromus or Chaos.
Zeromus was the one where you couldn't use items right? Well, I kinda forgot about that and soon I was out of MP, and I couldn't use ethers. I panicked and didn't know what to do, but he was near death so I spammed him with damage items (little bomb things or whatever they were called lol, it's been a while since I've played FFXII :P). So luckily I was able to beat him in one try.

No, Zeromus was the Esper where you couldn't use Magicks. You could only use Items to heal, and could only attack. So having Buffs on each character before you entered the battle is a nice idea.
