Have fans of a certain series/book/ videogame /show made you hate something?
Rabid fans made me hate something quite few times.

Rabid Wrpg fanboys who keep bashing final fantasy (my fave video game series) by saying it is cliches and full of trannies while going on and on about how "ZOMG DEEP" wrpgs are made me despise wrpgs

COD fanboys made me hate COD

People who kept on bashing my favorite jpop stars and final fantasy boys by saying things "girly men shouldnt be n games men should look like marcus fenix" "ZOMG they look liek trannies" and "girly boys are ghey and are teh suxxor", " we need moar manly men" and "you should stop liking girly boys go get a real manly man or just go lez"
Made me go from being indifferent towrds manly men to outright despising them

So have fans ever made you hate something?

Applet! Good to see you again! :monster:

I would have to say yes, I very much did not like the fanbase of Twilight. They praise it as some sort of Godly piece of literature and film and, quite frankly, the film bored me.

That being said, I will not be reading the books. Regardless of how many good things I've heard about the books...

EDIT: FANS OF TWILIGHT, I DO NOT HATE YOU! I hate that most of you make this film and piece of literature look better than it actually is.

Once again, I don't hate you (or anyone for that matter).

honestly, fans don't make me hate something... usually after either playing a game, reading a book, or watching a movie thats when I make my opinion.

For an example reading the twilight saga (yes I read it and even seen some movies for dates) I decided it wasn't for me, and people asked me why when it was "so good" and my reply "It was written for 12 year old girls with a sick twist of a girl who thinks it's ok to lead another guy on when she knows shes not in love with them"

but fans have never made me hate anything without me at least giving it a a chance. Now I do think some fans of whatever go to far with how much they like something, but that doesn't mean I am going hate the thing.

If anything, rabid fans of anything that doesn't look like it deserves much praise let alone the idolatry it is showered with makes me want to pity them or incessantly laugh at them. It's really not worth hating anything just because of the fans. Hate the thing on its own merits, not because of what its fans say. The most that I've encountered is growing irritation (not hatred) towards something that seems to be widely revered, yet I just find to be rather mediocre.

If i like something then i like it, fans obsessions cant change that. I like call of duty though it has the worst fanbase of any game series ever. But they dont put me off. Final fantasy fans never stfu up about ff7 and cloud and sephiroth and how badass they are with theyre bug swords. As sad as these people are i love that game and the fans feelings dont change mine.

As for something ive never seen then i cant say i hate it if ive not seen it. Like someone mentioned all the obsession with twilight. I cant say i hate it cuz ive never seen it. People have fangasm'ing over everything since tv was first around. I mean they still hold hundreds of star trek conventions every year all over the world.

Just enjoy what you enjoy and dont kid yourself.

I used to love Donnie Darko, I think I was the first out of anyone I knew to watch it and I mentioned it to some friends and then everyone started to watch it. At first it was cool coz we could all talk about the story and the theories and stuff but then they started to get overly obsessed about it, quoting it all the time etc. and It just grew tiresome hearing about it all the time and now I kinda am put off by it.

The FF7 fans sometimes get a bit tiresome too but I think I now don't really care for FF7 just because I find it a bit of a bore (after trying to replay it not long ago)

I'd like to agree with Lew's "like what you like" kinda statement up above, and I normally go along with it, but I did find myself rolling my eyes all the time when watching the 1st Twilight film thinking, "how can everyone else like this bad script". I couldn't get over that fact right through. Then again, maybe I wouldn't have liked it regardless, so that may not count :wacky:
I can't think of something game-wise that made me dislike it because of the fans though, so that's a plus.

Twilight fans. Straight up, Twilight fans. They are, in my opinion, the ones that fed the fire for the vampire craze and made everyone think that girls my age just L-O-V-E such an insufferable, indecent pile of shit for literature that the twilight series is. Not so much the FANS, as what they made MEDIA and EVERYONE think girls my age wanted and swoon over. I already hated the books, but the fans' behavior and the media response made me positively loathe it.

Also, I do dislike the realllllllly crazy fans, like the ones that drove Pattinson into a street and stampeded a poor girl at a con or something. They just make all twilight fans look a million times worse.

The only thing I hate about those sort of people is, for example, I want to watch Twilight and then people give me shit about wanting to watch it.

I'm like, "WTF is your problem? Leave me be. I am not a psycho fangirl who loves Edward and wants to turn into a vampire etc etc etc, I would just like to watch the movie."

I have not ever gotten so obsessed with anything that I would ever be like a crazy fangirl for anything, so when I decide to venture out and watch a movie or read a book that may be popular at the time and get accused of being such, it really shits me off.

Crazy fangirls/boys don't make me hate anything but themselves in these situations. >.<

Some people I know refuse to read/watch/play anything that is really hyped up just so they don't become a sheep or whatever. I honestly don't care. If I think I might like something then I don't care if it's hyped up or not. I don't really let that affect my decision making.

No; I know my own mind, so why would I give a shit about the rantings and rambling of some weirdos

I officially hate borderlands 2. Oh, and blobs 2. Usually when these are being discussed in the shoutbox, I vanish. It's all I read about now on the whole friggin internet. I'm sick of hearing about it. I can deal with the shoutbox, but reading about those games on a website about Mexican cooking pisses me off to no end. Good god.

I also hate COD. I played one of those games with my friend and it pissed me off. He wouldn't shut up about it. I'm talking hours non stop. Then to top it off, everybody we played with online were a bunch of idiots.

Just the whole "Western RPG >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> JRPG" crap that I'm sick of. Where I come from, all RPGs were recognized as a single genre and not defined by region. If you ask me what RPGs could I recommend, I'll give you a list and not sorted by region.

Now for fans superhyping a particular game I haven't played, there's nothing to hate. I'm going to read up on it and see if I like what I read before buying it. Just once and only once did I buy into hype of a game and was seriously disappointed.

Fans don't make me hate something. I actually get annoyed by some of the fans of things.

Take FF7 for example. It's a wonderful game. But some of the fanboys act like it's a game made by God and get all defensive when someone criticizes the game. There are some people who even go to the point of harassing others over the game. Of course, not every ff7 fan is like that, but there are some people that make a fool over themselves. They'll never change my enjoyment of the game, but the fanboys can be very annoying...

fans don't make me hate whatever it is they're a fan of, they just make me hate them. like many people, i think final fantasy 7 is an extremely good game and no matter what other people say that won't change. i do get quite annoyed when people are disgustingly relentless in their fandom of it and wish they would drown in the nearest vat of water though

Crazy fans exist everywhere. Sports, video games, music, etc.

In basketball, you have the retarded bandwagoners like Heat and Laker fans.
In boxing, you have those pactards (retarded pac fans) and flomos (fans who love to suck floyd's)
In music, you have Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga and their fans
In movies, you have the annoying twilight fans
In games, you have the GOW, COD, GTA fans

Notice the similarities. They are all popular so it's no surprise that it's populated by unintelligent fans. But that doesn't meant they don't have a good fanbase. Same goes for a smaller fanbase. Basically we rarely see a retarded Breath of Fire or Suikoden fans because they are small in numbers compared to FF fans which is divided into many groups.

Fans don't make me hate the thing they obsessed, but I hate the fanbase itself.

Fans have never made me dislike something, but they have made me feel ashamed about liking something. :lew:

Twilight, for example. I read the book a year and a half before it become popular, back when Stephenie Meyer was still interacting with the few fans on her fan-made forum. I bought it when Pirates 3 was sold out in the cinema, actually. :hmmm: Anyway, my interpretation of the book was very different to that of the fans AND the haters. Edward reminded me of one of my best friends who's a little bit sarcastic but lovely deep down, and so naturally I warmed to him. I never pictured him as a hot vampire! He was slightly weak in appearance in my mind. :lew: I have fond memories of reading the first book, and I eagerly bought the second and third when they were released. Since the fanbase EXPLODED, I've always worried about how people will react if I mention that I DID enjoy the first book. -_-

The Twifans are a nightmare! :gasp: They blew the book out of proportion, and the haters retaliated, twisting the series to give those books more flaws than they have. :gasp: New Moon through to Breaking Dawn were boring. All of the movies were boring. But that's about the worst thing I have to say about the series. :lew:

Most fans or fandoms of anything are shit so that is to be expected. I get heavily irritated when people make a decent game out to be the best thing ever (P4, FFVII, Ocarina of Time) but I don't hate any of those games. I get annoyed in general when people give games more praise than they deserve. I will enjoy good games and bad games regardless of how people act about them, though my opinion can tend to be soured when I attempt to look for more of the bad things just to get people to shut up about it.
